Pulled up and parked, went to grab my 20lb tank out of the trunk and an employee in a car beside me hopped out and grabbed it for me to bring inside! It's quick and affordable. But I'm suddenly thrust in the position where I have to learn. Okay, technically I don't "have" to, but I want to. And my grill recently ran out of propane (of course this occurred in the middle of the evening when some friends came over specifically to teach me how to use the grill, and when I had purchased some pricey steaks earlier in the day for grilling. The timing couldn't possibly have been worse. Of course. Argh). Anyhow, as is usually the case, I came to Yelp to find where to go, to fill up the propane tank. The Propane Depot has great reviews and is fairly close to me, so off I went, empty tank in hand. This place lives up to the hype. I was initially surprised when I arrived here, as my GPS directed me to this parking lot in front of a car tire store. Propane Depot didn't have a storefront or a brink-and-mortar building. Instead, it is a small kiosk in the parking lot manned by a guy and cashier, and a caged-in larger enclosure full of propane tanks and filling tanks. The guys who work here couldn't be nicer or friendlier. My tank was filled promptly and they even loaded it back into my car's trunk for me. (Note: those tanks are damn heavy - especially when full! Who knew?!). It cost me under $20 to get the tank filled which, I've heard, is quite a deal. (Trading in your empty tank elsewhere for a new one can be double this price. Also, reading the other reviews here on Yelp, it looks like this place hasn't raised its prices in a decade).

But this particular gas station left such an impression that not only did I stop to take pics but I left myself a note to review it on my dash. (My past self helps out my future self a lot...) I stopped in here for a routine gas up after coming back from SSI. First off, the second I walked in the door, both people behind the counter greeted me so cheerfully it made me smile. I grabbed an apple juice and made my way to the counter. I had a side mission to put air in my tires so I asked how much the air pump outside cost. And then I pulled a girlie move. I'm notoriously bad when it comes to cars. If you've SEEN my car you understand this sentence completely but to sum it up, let's just say I haven't been the best mum to little red car... i'm like one of those wacked out pagent mom's that bandaids up their kid every so often with redbull and hopes for the best. I throw oil in her. I gas her up. But other then that, i'm pretty clueless. So I asked how much air should be put in the tires. The gentleman behind the counter launched into an incredibly informative but completely over my head explanation about how I should not fill the tires to the max listed due to air pressure, or air heating... something to that effect. He was so pleasant in telling me the air of air pressure that I didn't want to interupt him with my normal, sarcastic "translation please" speech. When the super perky woman beside him chirped "fill them until the gauge hits 32. Period." We all laughed and I made my way outside. Totally upbeat from such a positive and comical interaction, I began filling my tires and low and behold, the gent came trotting across the tarmac to see if I had figured everything out! Friendly AND follow up? Well done Shell crew! We chatted for a few more minutes, I went in to wash my hands, tires successfully full (and double checked) and as I left, both employees stopped what they were doing/who they were serving momentarily to exuberantly wave and wish me well. I have not had such a positive interaction at a gas station.... EVER! Super friendly. Super helpful. Super genuine. Dear employees - I wish I had gotten your names but if you ever happen upon this, THANK YOU for truly giving a damn! You absolutely made my afternoon.
