I've always wanted to learn about using handguns for home defense, but didn't know where to begin…read more I discovered Scott's Handgun Fundamentals Class and decided to attend, but I wasn't sure what to expect. I was amazed! His class appeals to the visual, tactile, and auditory learning styles. He had an arsenal of teaching tools he used for demonstration, all of which didn't involve live fire. He showed me the different types of handguns, ammunition, how to load and unload them, what to do in the event of a malfunction, how to fire them safely, and how to store them safely. I never knew that when handling your firearm, pointing it towards a wall is not necessarily a safe direction. Scott informed me that bullets can go through multiple walls. That's not what you see on TV. When we reached the range for live fire, I felt a bit nervous, but Scott had taught me so much by that point that I felt more comfortable than I would have otherwise. He walked me through all the steps he had taught me in the classroom, which reinforced the safety aspects. Scott took his time with me and made me feel completely safe. That made all the difference! I tackled my fears head-on and discovered a level of confidence I didn't know I had! My journey did not stop there! I decided to take his concealed carry immersion class, which took my skills to the next level while reinforcing the basics. This time, I had an idea of what to expect. What I didn't know was how much more there was to learn, especially if you are considering carrying a handgun for self-defense. This was also a two-day class like the Fundamentals one I had taken. The amount of information he taught me, coupled with scenario training using his simulator, really brought everything together. My goal was to be a responsible gun owner and know what to do if I encountered a home defense-type situation. Scott's methods of teaching and his ability to combine lectures with hands-on learning far exceeded my expectations. Not only did I achieve my goal, but I still wanted to learn more! Since then, I have taken his coaching lessons, Stop the Bleed course, Less than Lethal, Refuse to be a Victim, a USCCA mini use of deadly force class, a US LawShield class he sponsored, and attended his Women on Target event. Pros- I love how quiet this place is and how fast and efficient the computers are. Internet here is never shoddy. Everyone that comes here comes here to study so you really get this studious feel. Minimal distractions. Really the spot for studying. Cons- parking. I don't have classes this semester on campus ! I take most of my classes online or in person at SECEP. This means I don't have a parking pass so guess what !!! I'm always having to bring tons of coins with me and when I'm spending an evening here .. I constantly have to walk out to the meters to put in more coins in and honestly .. it's a hike when you're under a time crunch. Also .. there isn't much metered parking to begin with ? Sometimes I come here (aka finals week) and there's only one metered spot left. Maybe next semester I'll just bite the bullet and buy a parking pass (it's over priced btw in my opinion) for the convenience especially because I really love going here to study but I really hate the parking situation.

For anyone planning on going to TCC and transferring to ODU in the VB area this is something to consider (keep reading). It's also affiliated with NSU, that's as far is I know since I'm not a student there. The classes in currently taking are distance learning and in person. Now that I'm attending ODU, I really learned to appreciate the Higher Ed Center. I commute to ODU's main campus out in Norfolk and it's such a hassle considering the fact that you have to go on the highway, pray you find a parking spot (parking in Norfolk sucks), and make it to class on time. During the winter times the circulation in my legs froze midway walking to the Perry...it's not fun. If you're always on the go, works full time, and wants to save money -attending classes here is your best bet. It's on the smaller side, two stories, they have a tiny ODU/NSU library with computers and tables, Wave Cafe that serves Filipino food, and you can get your parking pass here too ($124/one semester). They do have people that check your decal so beware! I learned my lesson the other day bc I thought I was being slick parking in a discreet area next to a tree. Walked out and saw that darn piece of paper on my windshield and my hard earned $15 bucks out of pocket.

Parking seemed to be fine when I was there, but I could see it fill up if multiple places there get busy. My first visit here was on February 1, 2025 and would be back several weeks later. The reason for the visit was to have a few sewing machines my mom has looked at due to some issues with them. The staff were very friendly and were able to listen to the issues and look for a plausible solution for the sewing machines. After that, my mom and I decided to go ahead with having the sewing machines looked at and also to have a tune up done on each. They did note that it could take several weeks, but that wasn't an issue. When it comes to payment, for the tune ups, you have to pay 50% of the cost at drop off and the remainder, including any taxes, when you pick them back up. I did take a look around the inside of the business as well. They have quite bit of stuff to choose from too. As expected, there is an area for Sewing Machines and another for Vacuums. There is also an area for fabrics too. A few weeks later, the sewing machines were ready for pick up. It took another week for us to get back there due to other things going on and the snow that we had at that time. When we did make it in for the pickup, the process was pretty easy. There is also a 30 day guarantee, so if you have any issues arise within that 30 day period, they will diagnose and fix at no cost. Overall, the experiences were excellent here. They were up front with everything along the way. I could tell very quickly that they were knowledgeable about the products they had to offer, along with the tune up info. It's hard to find places like this that you feel like a person instead of a number. If you need to have any servicing and such done for sewing machines and vacuums, this place is definitely worth checking out.
