Nicely organized and clean facility. I went to shoot with my brother. He has a membership here which helps get priority booking for range time. It gets quite busy! I did not know they have an archery range here!! Otherwise, I might have invested in a compound bow years ago! Check-in was easy. I had to fill out a waiver since it was my first time shooting here at this range. You just go to the kiosks to the far left of the check-in counter. Be sure to have your Driver's license/ID with you because you will need it to type in the number when you check into the kiosk for the waiver. Plus you will need to turn it in at the check-in desk while you're in the range. You must have safety glasses and ear protection before entering the range. If you don't own any you can purchase safety glasses for $4. My brother loaned me his ear protection and he brought his own guns and ammo. You can purchase from a variety of targets that are against the wall to the right of the counters. Just state which number to the staff. They will give you a stapler to attach to the board in the range. Holy cow! Gunfire can get EXTREMELY LOUD and jolting in there depending upon who is firing what in there. Some dude was firing a weapon that felt like it shook the range and jolted my body. My brother told me what it was they were firing but I forgot. Me and this teenager laughed and looked at each other because MY GAWD, the sound and pressure of that weapon felt like a sonic boom. LOL. They have staff inside the range to change out the back boards if needed and to sweep up the shells to prevent tripping as well. Restrooms are available as well with many multiple stalls and were very clean. read more

I cannot recommend this place enough! I came in with a history of gun violence & this visit was to overcome my fear of guns. The check in process was very easy to navigate and the team members were very helpful. Jake helped me get set up at the desk & he assured me that the safety person in the range would be helpful too. It's clear that safety is a top priority here. They require you to wear hearing & eye protection before you enter the range room! I entered the range room & was initially shaken & tearful so I stepped out, wiped my tears & then entered again. John helped me slowly ease up to the bay & walked me through all the safety basics of the gun. He helped me grip it correctly and get a feel of it before the mag was even loaded. He imitated what the kick would feel like. Once I was comfortable with just holding it, he showed me how to load the bullets. I was shaken & nervous between each step but he was calm, reassuring, & patient with me. I eventually loaded the mag & did one shot. From there, my confidence built. Overall, I would recommend this gun range to any & everyone. As a woman who came here alone to face my fears, I feel accomplished & empowered. As someone who's never held a weapon before, I had the coolest opportunity of going to the shooting range over the weekend and what an experience it was! We arrived around 3pm on Saturday and there was a 45 minute wait to get into the range. That gave me plenty of time to sign the waiver and look at all the weaponry throughout the store. As soon as the range was available, we had to put on noise cancelling headphones and protective eyewear before entering. With it being my first time at a shooting range, the sounds of the guns were a bit overwhelming at first but I eventually got used to it and was able to concentrate enough to practice a few rounds. This was something I've been wanting to do for quite some time and I'm so glad I was able to experience it and cross it off my bucket list. For around $25pp, definitely check them out if the shooting range is something you enjoy or if you're a first timer like myself who wants to do something fun and exhilarating! read more

Nice enough atmosphere and good selection of firearms; however, the staff was quite dismissive of nonmembers and didn't let our party know that we would essentially be skipped over in the virtual queue for a lane should a member arrive before our range time opened up. Additionally, when questioned about this (arguably purposeful) lapse in communication, the person behind the counter took a rude tone and gave a halfway explanation of how the membership works before suggesting we buy one to cut the line... yikes. Really nice range and staff. I didn't look around the store too much but it seems well organized and well stocked. There wasn't a wait time or anything to get a lane (3:00pm on a Monday) but not being a member did mean waiting like 10-15 min to be see while I waited for members to get checked into the range first which was expected so no big deal. The staff were great too. My dumbass went to not only the wrong lane, but also the wrong range and they were chill about it. They just had me and the guy who had reserved the lane I went to swap lanes. Service is TERRIBLE. Everytime I step in there no one speaks to me. After waiting 30 mins to get a trade in value they lowball the hell out of you. I went to multiple stores and got trade values around 600 and theirs was 250. Just a slap in the face, and also, all their firearms are overpriced as hell. Shout out to THOMAS for being absolutely helpful. This place has employees that are very knowledgeable of all things guns and outdoors. SO MUCH variety of guns and bow and arrows. A lot of hunting supplies too. And if you're not comfortable with guns or bows, they still have a selection of things you can use for defense, pepper spray, knives, etc. Good quality merch, kinda pricey but you definitely get what you pay for. Shooting range is expensive but can be worth it depending on how you spend it. But other than that, highly recommend this place! read more

Came here for the USO Virginia Beach experience for military, veterans, and their dependents! I underwent two classes, in which I was able to shoot a Glock 17/19 and some rifles and weapon used by croatian. The safety brief was about 10-15 minutes, and the amount of people per class was between 3-6. We had our own station area, was taught how to load the gun with and without a gun loader, and was shown how to hold each weaponry. The Glock 17/19 were harder to aim but easier to hold. 19 was smaller than the 17. They were named after their patent rather than the size. Highly recommend the lessons! read more

My first visit to Freedom Gun Range was completely overshadowed by an unprofessional and humiliating experience. As I was preparing to shoot, a female staff member walked over -- not to me, but to the group I was with -- and loudly asked them if I was pregnant. In a public room. Full of strangers. Without ever addressing me directly. Let me be absolutely clear: this was completely unacceptable. Even if there's a policy about pregnancy and shooting -- which I fully understand -- there is a right way to address it. Speaking about me rather than to me, and doing so in front of others, was inappropriate, disrespectful, and invasive. You don't know who those people are to me, and frankly, it's none of their business. What makes this even more disappointing is that it was another woman who chose to handle the situation this way -- someone who should absolutely know better than to speak about such a personal matter publicly and indirectly. There is no excuse for that kind of behavior, especially from a professional. If safety is truly the concern, then show respect to your customers by speaking to them privately and directly. read more

I have to agree with some of the other reviews from folks... In summary, the facility is great. I like the ability to shoot your shotgun and the range itself. It's clean and just easy to work with. However, the customer service... is practically non-existent. Do I need fairies and glitter dust when I arrive? Do I need you to treat me like your best friend? No... but honestly don't be a jerk. That's about the bar I'd expect before I mention anything. It's almost like there's a requirement for everyone to have no personality and have a "I'm better than you" mentality. I guess you have to know someone there to actually get help. The first time I purchased a suppressor there (It was in my hand and I paid for it) 2 month later I'm still waiting to certify the form to send to the ATF! So I asked silencer shop. They said that they never put it in the system that they received the can. So I cancel the whole order. 2 months I'm still getting "ready to certify" emails for the can I canceled. Then, I have a Pcc mailed there. 4 days after delivery I decided to ask about it. The guy said they would call when it's ready. 4 more days I call back and they said they called and it went to voicemail.(I never got a voicemail) and the guy had an attitude like being a customer is an inconvenience. Now, I ordered 2 suppressors online. One has been there for a week and not one person tried to contact me. I bet if I go the first thing they'll ask is "did you get a call?" It's sitting there ready to certify the form like the last one. I'm not rude and I'm very patient. All I ask as a customer is that you do your job and be professional and so far with the exception on the one woman with the piercings. All I've gotten is excuses and pushed to the side. Once I get my items I'll never do business there again I will not recommend them if to anyone I care about. read more

Freedom Shooting Center is definitely the best place in Hampton Roads to buy guns, as well as, the only range that's still open during Covid. They have, hands down, the widest selection of firearms in the area, from most of the major brands, whatever you want, from pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns, etc. They also sell boxes of ammo, firearm accessories, parts, and maintenance kits. Prices are appropriate for the area. Their range is state-of-the-art, with 34 lanes, temperature control, and experienced Range Safety Officers who are in charge of all range activities. They are also there to provide any support and advice to first time shooters or people who don't have a lot of experience dealing with firearms. I bought my first firearm at Freedom, a Walther PPQ M2. I first shot the PPQ at a range in Pennsylvania, which was before I joined the Navy. I really liked the feel and overall balance of the gun, and I've been looking for it in other gun shops in the area, but to no avail. Finally, I saw that Freedom had it in stock, and I wasted no time in buying it. The whole buying process was pretty smooth and pain free for me. However, I would like to point out some problems at Freedom, that needs to be addressed by their management. Their customer service isn't consistent. Their staff tend to either take their sweet time in answering phone calls OR they just choose not to respond at all. That's just unsat. Also, I've noticed from experience, even during hours when Freedom isn't busy, a customer can pace around the store for a long time before they are even approached by a staff member. That being said, Freedom is still the best range in the area and I would always recommend my friends and fellow shipmates who like to shoot guns, to go and get a membership at Freedom, or at least try it out first. Went here to buy my first handgun, great experience. The salesperson was helpful and gave great recommendations. Came back to try it out at the range since they gave me a coupon, horrible. The guy at the checkout looked genuinely bothered by my existence. I asked him a question, and he stared at me dead eyed until I rephrased to how he liked and then told me I had to sign a waiver and watch a safety video. I asked him where I go to sign the waiver and got a snarky response back. After doing all that, we stood in line for probably 30 minutes being ignored as members rolled up and were greeted with a smile. In between the members, they would sit in the back room or randomly touch stuff to look busy. Once they finally acknowledged our existence, I was met with attitude and sarcasm again. I decided that today was the day I would exercise my Second Amendment rights and brought my pistol and some ammunition. This is a large and very modern facility, lots of firearms for sale as well as tons of accessories, ammunition and I think they might even do some repairs. But I was here for the range. I had my own ears, eyes and targets so it was a simple $20 for an hour of range time. But before that, I had to spend 8 minutes watching the range safety video and sign a form. Easy enough and the video was quite professionally done and not nearly as boring as I expected. In the pistol range, it was clean and there was a hi-viz vested range officer watching and tidying. He did a great job of monitoring and I felt comfortable knowing that he was there. The range controls worked great. All push buttons so that you can just dial in distances and home, the carrier takes your target out and brings it back. The air was very well circulated but it was quite loud with noise reflecting off all the concrete. But that's what hearing protection is for! I particularly liked that the barriers between the range bays were quite solid and looked that they would stop an accidental round if someone did something stupid. This place is huge, clean, modern staffed with tons of friendly and knowledgeable staff. There is a huge selection of firearms and the staff are very open to questions and assistance. This place has multiple indoor shooting ranges and you can rent a huge array of different guns to shoot, so you can see which you prefer. The center offers tons of courses you can take. I registered for a 3-hour CCW beginner pistol course and was a little worried to be in a class full of beginners but didn't need to be. The class was taught by 2 recently retired police officers/ a former VB SWAT team member, as well as a medic. They only allowed 1:1 shooting which was great for safety and kept an eye on all the members of the class as well. The classes are very reasonably priced as is the merchandise for sale. This is the nicest shooting range and retail store combination I've seen- it's large and efficient. read more

They get 1 star because I can't leave 0. Freedom is by far the most overpriced place in the Norfolk/VA Beach area and they have this magical ability to never actually have what you need. Freedom constantly boasts about their massive selection of fire arms and accessories however, nothing is ever in stock. Additionally, if by some miracle you actually find what you want, good luck checking out. They usually have 1 or 2 people on a register and there is always a significant line. Freedom is a complete waste of your time, money, and gas. I've been on multiple occasions needing what you'd think would be a common part for my ARs and not once have they had it.
