I called his office and they told me I'd have to wait a month just to have a consult with him and that I'd have to drive out to Manasses - which was odd since he has offices closer to where I live. When I informed Dr. Hashemi about all of this, he got genuinely angry. He told me that new patients or patients in dire need were to be seen right away. He went a step further, and handed me a list of people to email about this issue so it wouldn't keep happening. It was at this point that I really liked and trusted this man implicitly. Ordinarily I would have had to come in again just to have my ultra-sound on my arm, but he insisted on doing it that day. And after a 20 minute wait, that happened. They scheduled my procedure and back home I went. On the day of the surgery, he specifically pushed my procedure to first. I felt special. This man deserves all the accolades he receives for being nice, highly competent and actually cares for his patients. Never did they make me feel like a numbered lab rat.

Not one office would take her, some even said it didnt sound like an emergency and most said she needed to see her pcp first. I couldn't believe it. The 13th phone call was UVA, I was transferred to Kate. She heard the frustration and fear in my voice and booked an appointment that day. She reassured that they would take a look and see what was going on. Once she was seen by Kate and Dena, we found out shortly after that this was in fact an emergency situation. Dena and Kate jumped into action and ordered all tests done stat and surgery was scheduled shortly after. Kate, Dena, Dr Beardsley, Dr Washington, Dr Winick worked friviously to get everything done quickly and prepare for my mothers procedure. When Dr Washington and Dr Winick were faced with complications during her surgery they did everything possible to keep my mother alive and it worked! We are forever grateful! I am a volunteer for several pain management advocacy groups, as well as a patient myself. I am…read moregrateful for the excellent job this office does. They do not pass out any medication indiscriminately. They do pill counts, drug testing and keep up with current research. The American Medical Association has recently come out in support of pain management at a time when this is a difficult area of medicine to practice. There are many medical conditions that do not respond to alternative pain treatments and sometimes opioid medication becomes necessary for optimal functioning. The current body of research now clearly shows, without any doubt, that pain medication prescription rates and overdose rates have no statistical relationship. None. Zero. Zip. Overdoses resulting in death are almost always a result of illicit opioids like heroin & illegal fentanyl, polysubstance use and occasionally diversion of prescription medication used by someone it was not prescribed to. This is typically a result of poverty, hopelessness, lack of employment opportunities, etc. If we hope to combat overdose rates in our state, we need to start fixing the problem rather than hurting patients in need.
