Dr Harkless, Dr Epstein, Dr O Meara, and all of the medical professionals are exceptional here. If Dr Pfeffer can be reached after retirement, my hope is someone can thank him from me. He was my physician growing up, and a supportive man through challenging times. I will always be grateful to him, and also to Mrs Barbara, who always made sure my timing was impeccable. This is without a doubt, the best pediatrician group in the area. My children have gone here for good reason. Trust, solid guidance, and experience. You want the best for your children, and this practice is where that's the policy. The office staff is very friendly, and I'd like to thank the advice nurse for their helpful guidance, along with all associated with this group. I don't have any problems getting my son an appointment. They also have wanted to always put my child's best first, despite some outside parties being less than exemplary or mature in an adult sense. Yet sometimes one must deal with life as is, smile, laugh, and just do the best regardless to be a caring person and relatively responsible citizen. The doctors and nurses here care. My appreciation for their honesty, and also being approachable. Working with children professionally, some pediatrician offices are impersonal or not very connected. This one is and they can refer you to other exemplary folks as needed. I've been coming to this office ever since I was born. I never had any problems until now. I am now 20 years old and I was on the phone with the advice nurse and she was giving me a disgusting attitude and getting mad at me for not making an appointment since June. I work everyday and the office is closed on the weekends so it was very hard for me to call off and come in for an appointment. She ended up hanging up in my face and I was very disgusted by this because I'm the one paying to be treated and I get treated awfully. Very disappointed by this situation and do not plan on coming back to this office. They need to take care of their patients way better!! read more

For the past few years. I been going to Springfield office for my daughters and son for annual checkup which is always free by my insurance else where. Yet, it hasn't been never free at all for every annual checkup visit. There's always co-pay some how. I called and asked why there's co pay and it always this or that regarding question the doctors cause cost. Doctor come in ask me if I have questions so if I say yes. It cost me. What's the point of annual check up and ask me if I have questions. Never like this in my previous dr office. So on some visit. I said no questions just to see and it still send me $30 co-pay. There is something wrong with the way you claim for annual visit billing. Don't make excuses when u claim it wrong to the insurance and don't even look into your process. read more

Love this practice and its doctors. We chose this practice after moving to the Springfield area in 2005. In 2023, and after 5 kids, we're still coming to this practice. Billing can be a little "eh" on occasion but that irritant is not unique to VPAC--as an individual with two Associate degrees and a professional certification in the healthcare (admin-side) industry, billing is challenging for literally everyone. Even then, our billing irritants related to VPAC have been minor. If you're looking for a great practice with fantastic caregivers and decent options for appointments and sick hour visits, then VPAC is my top recommendation. No complaints from us. read more

I definitely understand it's costly but that's really not the practice's fault. Again, no complaints from me. Nurses are good BUT the doctors are super nice! This pediatricians office has been useful in my family for almost 15 years, and consistently serves us well. The staff is helpful and easy to work with, and everyone is very cheerful. As a new mama, I understand VERY well how important it is to find a doctor that you're comfortable with, you trust, and you feel will provide great care of your child. I don't doubt that other parents' may have had less than stellar experiences in the past, as this is a large-ish practice with multiple doctors and lots of moving parts, but my personal experiences have all been great! We've seen Dr. Cross, Dr. Harkless, Dr. O'Mara, and Dr. Vivatrat and had excellent experiences with all of them. Penny was born at 37 weeks, and her bilirubin levels skyrocketed (jaundice) after we were discharged from the hospital. The staff at Virginia Pediatric & Adolescent Center prioritized seeing her for her follow-up visit early, and were quick to get us readmitted to the hospital when her levels had risen further, to make sure she could be appropriately treated and her jaundice resolved as quickly as possible. At the time, it was the scariest experience ever to have to be rushed right back to the hospital with our brand new baby! But with a little bit of distance and clarity, I'm so grateful that they took such an immediate and swift approach to make sure nothing bad happened to our baby girl. All of her subsequent visits have been easy to schedule, the practice is clean, they have separate well and sick waiting areas so as to limit the spreading of germs (and for our very first visits, when Penny was just 2-days old, they had us bring her in before they opened as an extra precaution.) I appreciate that they are a pro-vaccination practice, and the doctors are always patient with all of my new-parent questions, quick to reassure me that pretty much everything I worry about falls within the realm of "perfectly normal," and never make me feel rushed. When Penny has received her vaccinations, they've always encouraged me to take as much time as I need afterwards (if I wanted to nurse her or whatever), and they are also quite good at staying on schedule -- I've never had to wait for super long periods of time in the waiting room. I definitely recommend the Virginia Pediatric & Adolescent Center, especially the doctors that we've had the pleasure of seeing so far. Have been coming here for 12 years with 3 kids. They have walk in hours starting at 7 am which is great if a kid wakes up feeling sick before school. They are often fully booked so the key is to schedule a planned visit as early as possible (2+ weeks out), especially if you're trying to see Dr. O'mara. He takes his time and answers all questions, and will even call after hours if he comes up with a better answer to a question. Everyone is unusually patient and relaxed in this office... except maybe Dr. Harkless, her energy is THROUGH THE ROOF but in a good way - a little fast paced for the kids but always on the spot when it comes to making a diagnosis. Dr. Rossbach is really fun for the kids, but he may come off as judgmental and interrogative for the parents - I felt like a horrible parent when he thoroughly questioned me and my son about a bruise he got while playing. read more

Our first encounter with Virginia Pediatric Center Springfield was a positive one where we met Dr. Kia Harkless who gave a great presentation at the practice before we delivered our twins in December 2012. The facility seemed rather old and looked like it needed a little more than a facelift, but we still decided to go with the practice as Dr. Harkless seemed great, it was within great proximity of our home, and the ratings we saw online were positive. We delivered in early December 2012. We have had some positive experiences with Dr. Hogan (who has recently retired), Dr. Harkless, Dr. Epstein, Laura Conway, and Dr. Vivatrat. However, due to a series of consistent unfortunate situations with almost all aspects of their business, we have decided to part ways with Virginia Pediatric. Below is a list of negative things that happened over the last twenty months: 1. Dr. Rossbach released us from the hospital after the babies were born even though he was a bit concerned with Shannon's temperature. When we went back for our first appointment, Shannon was cold and they tried to warm her with blankets and heat packs. They said that was unusual and then said she needed to be readmitted to stay in the incubator for a few days. We were sent back to the hospital the next day which was very difficult with twins and another $250 fee to readmit. 2. The breast feeding consultant was unresponsive to voice mails. By the time she responded it was too late and I stopped breastfeeding by 2 months because I couldn't produce enough milk. 3. We had a lot of initial visits (as does everyone with newborns) which put us in touch with a lot of staff. One nurse that we seemed to always get was very cold, didn't smile, and uncompassionate. 4. Every time we placed a call after hours, the practice charged us $15. 5. I had to go back to the practice twice on numerous occasions to a different provider to solve one issue. I.e. Colic, diaper rash, plageocephay, infections, etc. 6. The Springfield Advice Nurse seems to have the ability to create her own schedule and rules in the office. She placed calls for prescriptions when she was ready. 7. Twice in one week I went to my pharmacy to pick up medications that were supposedly sent over by VA Pediatric hours after the appointment and the prescription was not there. I had to call the after-hours line and be charged $15 to resolve the issue one times out of the two within one week. The second time, I had to call the office and put them on the phone with the pharmacist. 8. Billing never called me back when I left a message to provide new insurance. Being a new mom is tough. You expect your pediatrician to provide you with solid medical care along with providing insight and advice on how to handle things. I definitely think a Dr. or Nurse Practitioner taking time to explain why they are taking a particular course of action is vital to the parent. That didn't seem to happen with the medical providers we met there. It was, this is the course of action, thank you. Half of the time we would go to appointments with a sick child and they said they it was not something that could be immediately treated and to wait and see what happens; there were no medications to prescribe. We would then go back to the office for a second visit and then they would finally prescribe a medication to resolve the problem. If you look at the organization from an administrative level, you can see that there are issues. The front desk workers and some of the nurses seem agitated in general. The website is confusing and lacks information, and it takes quite some time to get a human on the phone. While I think the doctors are probably trying to do a decent job, if there are administrative issues along with disgruntled office staff, the 'inmates have essentially begun to run the asylum' at VA Pediatric and Adolescent Center. I am happy with all of my other health care providers I have in the area outside of VA Pediatric. I also understand that people have bad days and can and do handle that in moderation just like everyone else. But when bad business practices, grumpy staff and constant administrative issues seem to be the norm in a business like they are at this practice; there are clearly larger organizational issues that need to be addressed. I thankfully found a practice 15 minutes away from the house that is one of the top pediatricians in the area. I am thankful to have had the chance to make the choice to work with a better pediatrician whose staff seems to respect me as a parent and treat my kids well. The new practice takes time to explain why they are taking the course of action they are and all possible outcomes based on the course of action. Overall I had a very poor experience with VA Pediatric and don't wish the stressful encounters we had on anyone. read more

I have been to both the Springfield office and Fairfax office for my 2 boys and love that I can always get an appointment. It's also really nice that they have walk-in hours everyday first thing in the mornings and also on Saturday which is a huge thing for working parents...but Saturdays tend to be really busy. The Springfield office is a little older, but the doctors there are all really friendly. I've seen several different doctors at both locations and am always pleased. They always ask me if I have any questions or concerns and I have never felt like I was being rushed through an appointment. The nurses are great too. I would recommend this practice to any parent. I chose this practice after visits to several others when choosing a doctor while pregnant with my first son. The hospital visits for newborn care was great and they really took their time making sure the baby was good and ALL of my questions as a first time parent were answered. My first born ended up having a medical condition and they really helped me through the shock of that unexpected news and the following treatments. read more

I am not sure how anyone can give this practice negative reviews.. this place is fantastic!! We have been coming here since 2014 and have nothing but good things to say. The doctors, the nurses and the administrative staff are all very friendly and helpful. They all have been very attentive and thorough during examination. Patient and understanding while answering dozens and dozens of questions from this first time mother. Our favorites are Dr O'Mara, Harkless & Vivatrat - they all have impeccable memories and can recall stories & details of our babies from couple years ago. We never felt being rushed out of a visit no matter how silly - trust me there have been some ridiculous nervous mommy freak out visits. Almost forgot - the wait time: we never waited longer than 5 minutes than the scheduled appointment time. Fantastic staff that make sure appointment time actually means something. However, the morning walk in clinic can get a little crazy during flu season - I would recommend just calling in for an actual appointment time (they always have reserved appointment times for sick kiddos) rather than sitting next to a crazy room full of sick children all morning. Anyway... we love this practice and would highly recommend to any parents! read more

I absolutely love VPAC!! I have been taking my daughter to this practice now since she was born (16 months) and I am very pleased! We usually only have our well visits with Dr. Rossbach but we have seen Dr. Crim and the NP's as well. tDr. Rossbach is very professional, easy going, and very good with little ones. He lectures me every time about my daughter's ears being pierced (jokingly) but he is very knowledgeable about everything. It is so easy to make appointments and they call you to remind you of your upcoming appointments. They have walk-in sick clinic hours which is really convenient and they are quick to call you back if you call after hours. The only reason I give 4 stars is because we have had several billing issues (they were charging us for what insurance covered) which went unresolved for several months, multiple times. We ended up just paying the couple hundred dollars so we wouldn't have to see it over and over again. The billing lady told us it had been taken care of, but, we would just see it again. I am very sad we are moving across the country, I was looking forward to watching my daughter grow up with the same MD! read more

We have been with VPAC since our son was born this past summer and are very happy with their care. We've met most of the doctors at the Fair Oaks location at this point and they are all very friendly, knowledgable, and respectful. The main reason we chose this practice is because they don't JUMP towards unneccessary interventions. In our experience they really consider any symptoms and risk factors and are open to discussions. I have never ever felt rushed during a visit, they always sit and answer my questions and let me hang in the room to nurse if I need to. I will agree with previous reviewers that the front office staff is not the most helpful nor attentive. They sometimes seem distracted and too busy to help you. However, this is a minor complaint in my opinion and I feel the medical care more than makes up for it. read more

The practice itself seems clean, and the doctor we saw (Dr. Harkless) was friendly and treated my 3-year-old son well. But after one visit, we will not be returning. 1) The nurse recorded a blood pressure reading for my son, but never took his blood pressure. She claimed she did, but both my husband and I were in the room to witness that she didn't. When questioned about it, she wasn't outright rude, but there was a bit of an attitude, and she didn't readily offer to take it, saying "Well, it doesn't really matter anyway." Well, we thought it did, so we asked her to take it anyway. 2) After this experience and already being disappointed in the practice after being referred to it by 2 other families, it was frustrating to be ready to check out and have no one at the check out desk. I could hear multiple voices in the back, so I knew someone was there, and after repeated attempts to get someone's attention, someone finally appeared to process the check out. No apology for the wait. 3) A month later, I receive my Explanation of Benefit and was surprised to see that we would have to pay a copay for a Well-Child Visit (which should have no copay). I called to inquire about it, and was told that I had a copay because my son had gone in for a Well-Child Visit but had been diagnosed with an ear infection. During the appointment, we were not notified of an infection, so either a) my son was sick and they didn't inform us or b) they put that diagnosis in for the wrong patient record. I'm 99% sure it was the latter since my son wasn't sick. I discussed this with the billing person, and she said that she would remove that copay charge since it was the first time I had called, but they generally don't remove the charge. At this point, I was prepared to be nice and leave a 2-star review since the doctor herself was fine, BUT. 4) A month after THAT, I received an invoice requesting payment for the copay, which meant that the billing person told me the charge would be removed, but didn't actually remove it. So I had to call AGAIN, several different days in order to reach the right person, in order to have the charge removed. I learned my lesson and had her send me documentation that day to confirm it was removed. read more

I don't know WHY this only has 3.5 stars. This pediatric and adolescent doctors' office is fantastic. I've been going for almost 8 years since my first born was 3 weeks old. LOVE the doctors, esp Dr Kia Harkless, Dr Timothy O'Mara, Dr Bethany Epstein. LNP Laura Conway is great too. Great nurses too who remember my kids from baby-hood. The walk-in sick clinic is great. Dr O'Mara helped me (early) detect that my oldest son has Autism Spectrum Disorder and even took the time to read the multi-page evaluation from Child Find. Not that this matters medically but the re-did the office a year or two ago (Dr Epstein has a secondary skill - Interior Design) and it looks beautiful. They have two waiting rooms, one for sick children, and one for well visits. I have even seen them usher a newborn to a more private waiting area with no sickies around them. Personally, I love this place and totally recommend. read more

Drs. Shernock and Mayergoyz are excellent. I have had more interaction with Dr. Shernock, who completed physicals for both of my boys on the same day. It was quite a job as they are 2 and 3 years old. She was very thorough, patient and extremely informative. She gave great medical advice; even down to things like making sure they wear helmets when riding bikes, and the importance of teaching gun safety at an early age. Also, we had some parenting questions, and she was more than willing to give us her opinion and provided tips that we now use and have found to be effective. The staff is very friendly and professional. The office has a toy section and we have never had a long wait. Also, when I had questions about switching insurance companies, the front desk put me in touch with the business office. The woman there took such time to explain the benefits and drawbacks of the insurance company I was considering - it was so helpful. I can't say enough good things. I highly recommend this practice. read more

I would give Dr. Rossbach zero stars if I could. My husband and I are responsible parents - never missed checkup appointments, brought our son in when sick. But Dr. Rossbach ignored all of that and treated us like strangers and criminals when he turned our family over to Child Protective Services. I brought my son in because he had bumped his head and the swelling had not gone down. Instead of receiving compassion and care, they accused me abusing my child. We were subjected to investigations over the next several weeks, questioning our parenting. I was heartbroken. The only thing I wanted was for my son to be taken care of, which is why I brought him into the doctors. But, they chose to ignore my son and focus on blaming me. read more

Went in for our infant's two month visit, she was set to receive her first set of vaccinations. Nurse/Staff member proceeded to drop the second vial on to the floor and the empty syringe into my daughters foot. Nurse did not apologize, just simply said "its fine" had us hold gauze to it and promptly left the room... Notified the doctor who shrugged it off as being superficial injury, I understand accidents happen, but when you play lawn darts with someones infant its best to be apologetic. We've been taking our children to VPAC for nearly 6 years and we are so grateful for it. The doctors are fantastic. It's very easy to get an appointment. The daily walk-in sick clinic which is a godsend. If our children get sick in the night we don't have to worry about calling first thing to make an appointment. The nurse on call (Dory) is so helpful and I love that there is always a doctor on call who promptly returns my calls. VPAC is genuinely a top notch practice. But I do have one issue., and it is pretty major. Your billing department. Or more specifically, your billing software. Time after time after time I get billed for copays that I do not have. Despite the EOBs coming back showing that my insurance has paid at 100%. Despite calling the billing department alerting them. Despite informing the front desk. Every. Single. Time. I get a bill. But that's not even what is concerning. What is concerning is that in addition to being billed for copays that I do not have, I was just billed for a service that my insurance denied because it was considered an unbundled service and I only noticed it because my insurance is covering at 100% now so I should not be getting any bills. I get bills all the time before my deductible is met and don't know how many times this has happened in the past. As a former medical biller, this is very disconcerting. After calling my insurance to confirm that I was not responsible for that amount, which they confirmed that I was not, I left a message for your billing department. A very nice lady eventually called me back and swiftly reversed the charges, blaming the automated billing software. So all worked out for me... But I worry it is not just me getting these bills. And as someone who loves this practice very much, I feel that it is important to alert the doctors to what just happened. I understand that, as a doctor, your #1 priority is treating patients. And it should be. But I also understand that having a billing department/software that is allowing careless errors like this to happen, it is setting you up for a potentially sticky situation as it is ultimately your tail on the line. And I'd rather you hear this from a patient then from an insurance auditor. Therefore, I urge you to take a look at your billing software and to try and find out exactly what is happening. Why are patients getting billed for services that the insurance companies are clearly saying via the EOB that you cannot bill them for? How often is this happening? Is someone catching this and issuing credits? Or are you relying on patients to read extremely complicated bills and EOBs and flagging it themselves? I would hope that if patients are paying these erroneous bills, someone is eventually catching it and issuing refunds. But, you might just want to make sure. Again, just wanted to bring this to your attention. It does not change my opinion of this practice whatsoever. The doctors truly are wonderful. This is an excellent practice. I trust all the providers, including the NPs. They always give detailed attention to whatever is going on with my kiddos and we NEVER have to wait long. So often clinics get negative reviews from people that don't understand how medicine works. No practice is ever going to be perfect of get every diagnosis right 100% of the time. I have used this practice for almost 4 years and have never experienced anything like the previous reviewer. I LOVE this place. We see Dr. Epstein mostly for both our kids and even though it's often months (or a year) between visits she remembers both my husband and I and what we do for a living. She has twin boys herself (a little older than my oldest) and I know that she doesn't recommend anything she wouldn't do for her kid. The other providers have been nothing but kind and helpful. We have always received great care here and while sometimes there is a wait, I haven't ever waited over 30 minutes to see someone. With open clinics the key is to time it right at the beginning or right at the end. They have a lactation consultant on staff part time, so it's hard to catch her, but if you ask before booking the appt you can make it for a day she's in the office. She's great! Appointments are easy to book, they rarely have a time that doesn't fit into my schedule. They are easy on the antibiotics and really seem to treat holistically. I've frequently had them tell me to use homeopathic or alternate treatments, not medicine for my kids. The advice nurse is VERY helpful and responsive which has helped me avoid bringing my kid in for an unnecessary sick visit (and save $25). Granted my kids haven't been too sick and don't have any chronic conditions but both had jaundice at birth, Bronchiolitis as infants (nebulizers, antibiotics etc), and my oldest had a real bad flu last year. I've always been very happy with these folks and the different providers. I'm sorry to hear that isn't the case globally. read more

I stopped taking my 3 kids to this practice last year after having patronized for 2 years despite that it's so convenient to our home and they have early morning drop-in hours for sick children. Doctors are hit and miss - beware. Had a so-so experience with a doctor the 1st year we moved here after I rushed one of my kids in w/a tick I pulled from her hip. Doctor who attended to her was professional but unplussed. When I asked about the procedure to send in the tick for lab analysis (for Lyme or a myriad of other common NOVA diseases), he said it was highly unlikely that: 1) the tick carried Lyme or other diseases, or 2) diseases would transfer to her since I removed it (presumably) soon after it lodged in her hip. I pushed to have it inspected because I'm paranoid and have adult friends with debilitating complications from initially untreated Lyme disease. I sent in the tick, and results came one evening about a week later that it was Lyme positive! Now very paranoid, I called that evening to ask what to do next, and was told from the after-hours doctor that even though the tick had Lyme, it probably would not infect her, but there was an antibiotic protocol. I pushed that I wanted her treated, and he (who was professional) prescribed antibiotics. After researching, apparently not every MD is familiar with treatment/diagnosis of Lyme. If you suspect your child is at risk, please do your homework and go to a specialist ASAP. Do not play the lottery with ticks and Lyme disease! Took the same child the next year for a pre-op physical for scheduled orthopedic surgery with an out-of-state specialist. The wrinkle this visit was that my daughter had what appeared to be a bump on her arm rapidly develop into an infection, so I brought this to the doctor's attention at the same time. A friend warned me her child had a similar issue that was MRSA, so I asked about it. Nice female doctor (Dr. H) attended to her this visit (Mon. am), looked at the area, prescribed antibiotics, and cultured the fluid in the area. This precluded my child from being cleared for surgery the next week. We were told the lab culture would take 2-3 days to come in (expected results on Wed., no later than Thurs.), so scheduled another visit on Fri. to get the results and pre-op clearance. Disappointingly, the culture did not come in by our second Fri. visit, though the infection appeared to have receded a bit. Doctor checked with lab who said results for sure would be back before COB, and they would call me with results. Given the lack of lab results at our 2nd visit and that the infection site looked healthier, she cleared my daughter for surgery w/caveat to watch infection. Waited for a call all day, never got one, called the office myself several times that afternoon in a panic because nobody answered the phones - I could only get VM during normal business hours no matter what selections I pressed. Nobody from VPAC called me that day. With no further information, we assumed all was well and 3 of us left on our scheduled flight 2 days later (Sun.) for Mon. surgery. At the surgery pre-op appt. on Mon. am, we told the surgeon's PA about the infection site, who immediately set off calling VPAC for lab results. The surgeon came in the meantime to evaluate our daughter and review the VPAC visit records we brought, stating the antibiotic prescribed was deleterious for a patient undergoing orthopedic surgery, as it was known to damage cartilage - which is what the surgeon was working to preserve on my daughter. The PA was exasperated after 30 mins. when he reported nobody was picking up the VPAC phones, forcing us to wait for the surgery clearance needed for her afternoon surgery. After 45 minutes of waiting, the PA had to tend to other patients so ordered an office assistant to babysit the phone call until someone at VPAC picked up. It took the better part of 3 HOURS to reach someone at VPAC on the line. VPAC claimed that my daughter's lab results came in the previous Fri. afternoon, "not long after we left the office" (truth or CYA?). We learned then that our daughter had contracted MRSA, surgery was cancelled on the spot, and our child was immediately sent to an infectious disease doctor. The infectious disease specialist noted that the antibiotic prescribed was not at all effective for fighting MRSA (her immune system had naturally quelled the infection, no thanks to the meds), and she was put on a new antibiotic protocol before being observed for a day and sent home. We wasted time off work, ~$2000 for flights, car rental, and hotel; our daughter was mispronounced healthy for surgery, and mistreated with an ineffective antibiotic for a serious diagnosis VPAC never notified us of in time. I later called the practice manager who offered nothing more than an apology, stated they were short-staffed, and the phone system was down the previous week. Beware - disorganized! We do not recommend. read more

Our experience has been excellent, always attentive, professional and easy to get in when needed. I am picky and this is the best. We have been going to this practice since our oldest was born in 2009. Over the past few years, we've had appointments with practically every doctor and nurse practitioner in the Springfield office, and I have been very satisfied with the care my children have received. Dr. O'Meara (male) and Dr. Harkless (female) are my favorites and I usually am able to get an appointment with either one. They take their time to discuss whatever concerns or questions I might have. The nurses are always so nice and gentle with my kids, and the receptionists are very pleasant. My kids enjoy the friendly treatment and always look forward to getting a sticker after their appointment. I've been able to get same day / sick appointments several times without problem, and I have found the advice nurse service to be extremely helpful -- especially during the newborn / infant phase. I definitely recommend this practice if you are fine with seeing more than one doctor over the various visits -- in my opinion this is a good trade off because there is a much greater chance you can be seen when needed if you are willing to see multiple practitioners. read more

I have used this practice for 4 years now. We are leaving them, as we have found the care to be really inconsistent. The walk in sick clinic routinely takes 2-3 hours, and you only get to see whatever doctor is staffing it that day, regardless of whether or not they are familiar with your child. My son has been seen in the sick clinic between 8-10 times for wheezing and asthma attacks, prescribed dozens of boxes of albuterol for his nebulizer (which we purchased from them), yet when we wanted to discuss an asthma treatment plan at his 3 year wellness visit the doctor said she had no idea his asthma was that bad because they had no record of it. Both my boys were suffering from an awful virus this week. I brought them to the sick clinic twice with concerns about complications from the virus, and both times we were sent home with nothing. Two hours after being assured my 20 month old was on the mend, bloody yellow puss started oozing out of his ear (he has tubes and a long history of ear infections). I don't know how/why the doctor missed that. We had to call our ENT after hours for treatment. That same night, my older child (the asthmatic) had such a severe asthma attack he had to go to the ER for steroid treatment. We will not return to this practice. I would not recommend it to anyone that needs anything more than the occasional well visit, because at least then you can make sure you are seeing the same doctor. read more

We moved here fr Houston roughly 3 years ago and 2 of my children got really sick. We found VA Pediatrics and Dr. Epstein ran blood work on my daughter and called us at 9pm when she received the results. She came in on a Saturday (it wasn't her Saturday to work) just to see myself and my son. She took one look at us and told us to get to the hospital. Dr. Epstein is a truly wonderful and caring doctor, along with several others at the practice. I never feel rushed and they make everyone feel as though they are their priority. I am so thankful to have found VA Pediatrics. read more

I absolutely love this office and have recommend Virginia Peds to 4 of my other co-workers who have also raved about their experience. We usually see Dr. O'Omara and Dr. Conway. They are both wonderful and personable and my kids really like them. There has only been 1 time they couldn't fit us in (but we didn't call until 3:30), but they had a doctor call us back to discuss the situation and provide his insight and recommendations. It's easy to make an appointment, and the advice line is great. I love that they have the waiting room separated so that children that are sick are not sitting in the same chairs as the kids that are just there for their well visits. I have not had any trouble with the billing and insurance office either. I highly recommend them!! read more

We have been going here with my infant daughter and have been very pleased. She was jaundiced as a newborn and had to be rehospitalized and the NP I saw (Lisa Ruffner) was very responsive and patient in explaining things to us and getting us taken care of quickly. We have seen a variety of providers for her well visits and a handful of "sick" visits (mostly just me being a neurotic first time mom!) and every has been incredibly nice and never made me feel guilty for bringing her in for such minor things- they were all responsive to my concerns and had lots of tips and suggestions. Scheduling is a little hard- they fill up fast! But if you have something more urgent the receptionists are really good at recognizing it and transferring you to the advice nurse who can open up some of the "emergency" spots (like I needed when my 8 week old was having profuse diarrhea). The advice nurse is WONDERFUL- calls back very promptly and VERY helpful (she spent almost 20 minutes on the phone with me discussing some sleep strategies to help my little one, as I was in tears! So kind and patient and helpful!). We have also used the after hours call line and received a call back very promptly and were given the same compassionate and appropriate care and advice we have come to appreciate in the office. Our favorite providers are Dr. Rossbach, Dr. Vivatrot, Lisa Ruffner and Kim Kincaid, but like I said, everyone has been great! I also recommended this practice to a friend in my new mom's group when she was stressed to the max about her son and not getting much help from her pediatrician- she was able to be seen the following day and had a wonderful experience. I like knowing that I can refer people there and that they recieve the same wonderful care we have. They also have walk in hours Monday-Saturday which are GREAT for those sicknesses that pop up overnight. We had to wait a little when we went (to be expected) but they made sure to put us and our 6 week old in a separate waiting room so she wouldn't be exposed to all the colds and viruses. read more

Worst practice. They caused our family, extended family and friends so much anxiety with fake diagnosis that had us run around chasing ghosts of illnesses that never were true. Found out shortly later that the referrals were another money making scheme. Referrals to their very own fellow family members in the business caused us grief and expenses beyond explanation. read more

This is for the office staff and policies, mostly. We switched to this practice based on a recommendation from a friend for the specific doctor and I couldn't have been more thrilled to find a doctor who shared similar values as I did. When I switched over to the practice, I scheduled my daughters 18 mos check up and specifically asked if my other kids needed to be seen or if I could just bring them in when/if they got sick (since their annual apps were 10+ months away). They said we could just bring them in to the clinic or call and schedule an appt. My 18 mos old got sick about a month later (with an ear infection). I called in and asked how the clinic works since I have never been there before. I was told that she couldn't go to the clinic since she was a new patient. I explained her fever was 103*, she has febrile seizures and I was certain she had an ear infection and we needed to get her on antibiotics. I was told they had no appointments that day and she would have to wait to be seen until tomorrow. I reiterated the 103* fever, history of febrile seizures and need to start antibiotics that day. They didn't care, they just said they didn't have any appointments available. I sent a follow up email explaining the experience asking for a phone call. Never received a reply or a phone call. read more

The doctors are great and very nice and welcoming, however the receptionists are pretty rude and lack customer service. When I called to check if my children were due for their annual check up, I was transferred to a nurse only to get put in their voicemail. Unfortunately this is not the first time I've received poor customer service from this place. Even when I am in the office, I am not treated nicely. Therefore I gave them a 3 star rating. read more

Both of my kids have been patients at the Springfield practice for about 9, and 10 years, respectively. With the exception of one doctor, the rest are good including the nurses. They don't rush you out of the door like many other practices that we've been to. They spent about 20-30 minutes for each visit with you, and wait time in the wait room is around 10-45 minutes but mostly around 15 minutes. I am usually quite picky when it comes to doctors, but I am happy with this practice. Wish I can find the same for my own doctor. My daughter visit this practice about 5-6 times a year, on a couple of occasions they were running behind with the sick clinic so we had to wait 60-75 minutes, but that's rare. There is only one doctor we don't care for because her diagnosis was wrong for my son, he suffered another 5 days of fever and pain before we took him back to see a different doctor and got the right antibiotic. She ignored our description of symptoms and the suspected source-my daughter got sick the week before and got better with antibiotic. The attitude is "I am the doctor, I know more than you, just go home and wait it out". Anyway, other doctors and nurses do listen to you. You don't have much choices when it comes to the sick clinic doctor because many times they have only one, sometimes two. read more

Do not go here!!!! You might see a doctor in the beginning but you will never be able to get an appointment with them as your child grows. I went here with my daughter who was a preemie, after a year I could never get an appointment with her primary doctor ever again, always booked. Now that she is 7 years old for the last three years I tried to book in June/July for her yearly exam and was told that they are booked with all doctors until October that the only appt. I can get is a nurse practitioner. I finally decided to leave this year. For her one exam once a year booked two months early I should be able to see one doctor, any doctor. DO not go here you will not be happy with their service. As a Mom I want to have a doctor that will know my daughter not just an office who will only throw me to anybody each year! read more

I have to say that I love this practice. All the doctors have been through and more than kind. They've stayed after hours for our sick kids and have done all they can to help them. I have two preemies and one has an immunodeficiency and gets sick often. Dr. Catherine Cross is one of the best pediatrician's I've ever met and would recommend her to anyone. I haven't met every doctor yet but I would highly recommend those that I have seen. We've been going there for over two years now. read more

We were with this practice for several years (shortly after the birth of my first son after a dreadful experience with a shall remain unnamed large, prestigious practice in Northern Virginia that, among other things, misdiagnosed, infant thrush as, "oh he just has a hairy tongue...that bleeds a little.") and found both Dr. Shernock and Dr. Mayergoyz to be wonderful and compassionate! We have two very active boys, one who was born with a health condition that has since been resolved. They were fantastic and supportive in working with us as was their staff. We unfortunately have had to relocate and I dragged my feet in finding a new pediatrician because I dreaded not being able to find a similar practice. I think the one star review below may not be meant for Springfield Pediatrics because I believe that Dr. Shernock and Dr. Mayergoyz only have one site and we have never, ever experienced that kind of attitude from their nurses (and trust me, my boys have wailed like you would not believe when getting shots). PS: Our initial referral for this practice came from my mother-in-law who is in medical field and a rather hard sell herself, also when we did have to change practices, they were amazing about providing copies of both boys charts (one chart was HUGE). The wait can occasionally be a little lengthy but I feel this is because the doctors are very dedicated and spend time with each client doing due diligence. read more
