We wanted to try someplace new so this was my choice. I really wanted to try the crab Rangoon pizza. I was kinda disappointed in the draft beer option but found one I ended up liking. I think it was called Sheely and it resembled Amber Bock...very smooth. I really enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and seeing the old building renovated was nicely decorated/painted. The girl working behind the register was very friendly. Our wait time for drinks and food was great! We received our beers within a couple of minutes, and the pizza came out with 10 minutes. I really enjoyed the pizza, but my husband isn't much of a thick crust pizza fan but still enjoyed it. I wish I had noticed the May pizza special (jalapeño popper pizza) because that sounded delicious too. I really enjoyed the flavor of or pizza and how it was loaded with cheese. Skip ahead a few years since my first review and I now find myself a regular of Vis Major. It helps, of course, that I live nearby. I've been to every brewery in town and most across the state and I can tell you that you'd be hard pressed to find one better than Vis. The consistency is great and they offer up a nice variety with a focus in Sours, IPA's and barrell aged beers. My favorites are If This Be Treason (NEIPA), Love at Midnight (ale with coconut and pineapple aged in rum barrels so that it tastes like a pineapple upside down cake), Blush Bocadillo (pineapple and guava gose) and 22 Bones (dunkelweizen). Add great beer to a great and kid-friendly atmosphere, good pizza and to die for truffle popcorn and you have a brewery that it's in the upper echelon. Definitely add it to your must-visit list. read more

Vis Major is in my neighborhood so we can walk there if we want. It's really great to have a classy microbrewery so close to home. Before it opened, the owners wrote about their process on NextDoor so it was very interesting to follow along with that until they finally opened. It's a small space with the usual(these days) industrial look except for the bar. The bar is beautiful and looks like the wall behind it came from a church. The name Vis Major means superior force such as an act of God so maybe that's why it has a churchy look. The menu has evolved since they first opened and now offers pizza, hot pretzels with cheese sauce, a couple of salads and a few other bar snacks. We tried the Taco the Town pizza on our first visit. It was very good with a thin, crispy crust with beer cheese and taco sauce, ground beef and tortilla strips. I would get it again. The other pizza we tried had chicken, buffalo sauce, onion, mozzarella and ranch. I'm not a fan of buffalo sauce on anything, so I didn't think it was wonderful but others might really like it. The pretzel was soft on the inside, just like it's supposed to be. As for beverages, I tried Loscado Malbec from Argentina, which I liked and on another occasion I tried two "taster" servings of beer- Kinfolk Ale, which was pretty hoppy and Year's End which I liked better. It's good to be able to get the tastes instead of ordering a full glass. They also have 3 beer-based cocktails. We will keep coming here, since it's nearby and so far we have enjoyed our experiences. Someday maybe we will have tried everything--until they bring in something new, which seems quite likely, especially with the craft beers. read more

Stopped in here for a beer right before closing and I am happy I did. First off, the decor is really fund and funky, and very comfortable, which is important to me in a brewery tap room. I want to feel relaxed. The staff greeted me as soon as I walked in the door, and let me know that last call was coming soon, but I would be served. I managed to squeeze in two beers, both of which were quite, and the staff was willing to let me get a third but I was tired and decided to head out. Friendly staff, good beer, nice space. I'd give Vis Major 3-1/2 stars if yelp would let me, but I will say 4 stars. I am not a huge beer drinker, but I can always find something on tap that I like (they only serve their own beers on tap), which is definitely a plus. Also in the plus column is the really creative pizza that they serve, they do one modeled after a Chicago style beef sandwich and another one that is a wonton/crab Rangoon thing that are both really well done and unique. They used to serve sausages that were horrible, but the pizza is worth a visit . On the con side the service can be extremely spotty, some nights it's great and other times it's not so great, but I get the impression it is because they are too lightly staffed, and not that they don't care. The waitresses are always friendly though, that has never been an issue. I wish they had a few more menu choices, but I get it, they probably want to focus on the beer, which I understand. You can get crowlers to go. We tried their pizza for the first time tonight. They have some unique options to choose from and you can also build your own. Each pizza is 12 inches in diameter. After two years of gathering research in Omaha, I've decided that Vis Major is my favorite brewery in town. First of all, the decor is so aesthetically pleasing. But the beer....omg the beer. They have the perfect combination of classics and rotating seasonal selections. And if you're anything like me, you don't visit a brewery for a classic (obviously you save those for drinking at home), you visit a brewery to really understand the brewery's personality and uniqueness! Some of my most memorable experiences with beer have been at Vis Major. In the summer they have a lavender beer that's just divine. And I just recently had their holiday beer called "stuffing"...rosemary, thyme, and cellery in a beer? Sign me up! It sounds a little quirky but just trust me, it somehow tasted just like my mom's stuffing and it was still fantastic as a beer! I even bought a growler! The logo and aesthetic were all it took to get me in the door because of how beautiful and Art Deco it all is, but the beers kept there long enough to try a few and grab a shirt! The shirts are very reasonably priced at $12 and the glasses are as well at $6 each. The beers have a wonderful range from the usual blonde ale to the fun like a sweet cherry & honey ale. No matter the type, each sample or pint I had was delicious. The bartender was very knowledgeable, personable, and kind! He gave us a wonderful food recommendation for the next day that was spectacular! What a fun and funky neighborhood find. You wouldn't expect to find this here but it's worth seeking out. Beer-loving family from California (San Diego and San Francisco) visited over the holidays so we went brewery hopping. Vis Major was the favorite of the tour! Great, tasteful, funky, classy decor is promising from the moment you walk in. The bartender seemed put-off at first, as if he didn't like us, but once we realized he was just being playful and putting us on, that he'd correctly read our fun-loving group for who we are from the moment we arrived, it was all good :) No surprise really because Lindsey, one of the owners, has always been pleasant and wonderful (and was again that day). You may be wondering about the beer. It's great. Truly creative recipes, all done well. We particularly loved Eden's Alter, one of the best beers I've had in years, and Stout Almighty. The space itself is visually lovely; I was glad to see it for myself after following the renovation progress and process in their Facebook page. This is basically a tap room with an option for popcorn or brats, so that's something to keep in mind if you are accustomed to more of a restaurant experience. You're here for the beer, though. I really appreciate the seasonality of the choices I'm seeing - four involve fresh fruits, and this being summer they are big on ales and hops with an oatmeal stout to promise us that more is coming in winter. If you are a homebrewer, you'll especially appreciate and note that these beers taste like a homebrewer hit the big time. We've found no errors, just a lot of love and care. read more

What's there not to like? Great beer, lovely space, good food and likely a catalyst for future development in the neighborhood. Not into beer? They have a decent selection of wine and spirits as well-not the norm for most breweries. Maybe it's just my timing, but nearly every time I stop by, Vis Major is bustling with activity. Like I'm lucky to find a seat at the bar. But when I do, I order up a tasty beer or two and chat with the friendly staff. I tried the black IPA on my most recent visit. Seemed a nice pairing with a chilly October night. Then a bought a crowler to go of their pumpkin ale, which I later enjoyed at home while watching shows on the internet. So VM has great beers, but don't pass up on the food, either. Their menu is concise, featuring a variety of snack food like popcorn and pretzel bites and various bratwursts featuring Frank Stoysich meats. Vibe is odd. The beer was ok. We tried 3 of their IPAs and honestly I was not impressed. To make matters worse there was a screaming toddler while we were there which I know they cannot help, but it made me want to leave very quickly. Several large lights from an old Omaha church adorn the high ceilings here as well as a few wooden pews that line the east wall for seating. I came here opening night and it was jammed. While standing in line for a beverage, I spoke to a few people and they were happy Vis Major was here; as am I! The Citra Elixir IPA was my favorite followed closely by the Amulet Ale. There are several selections on the menu that will satisfy pretty much any brew palate. The sausage (by Stoysich) was excellent too. Well done, Vis Major; I will definitely be back again! read more

As far a breweries go this place is a must visit. Alone in its center street location it really has a lot to offer from its great true to the craft beer and its twist on basic food options. I visited on a Wednesday afternoon and watched this place go from empty to full quickly. Had a short talk with the owner and she was super friendly and you could tell she really cares about her business. I tried 5 samples before choosing a beer. But honestly everyone I tried was fantastic. Very crisp and true to the style. The atmosphere was great for a brewery taphouse style and the smell of the gourmet popcorn filled the room. Staff was wonderful and friendly. I left with a Crowler of my favorite (cheaper if you buy two pints) and a definite want to return. So bring a friend, share a "divine pint" and you won't regret it. read more

I'd heard of Vis Major many times and even driven past it a few times. Recently I read a review of the place in the paper that sparked my interest. Last night I decided to stop in. They have a number of great beers that they've brewed. About 10 that they keep on the menu (I assume) with two or three more smaller batches. I had the dopplebock and some pretzel bites. The dopplebock was delicious and reminded me of the first time I had one when I lived in Germany back in the 90's. Such a great aroma and flavor. Really delicious and quenched my thirst. The pretzel bites (not something I'd normally order) were very good too. They're small, round, soft pretzels and they're served with a bit of spicy brown mustard and some cheese sauce. Very tasty. Hit the spot. Next time though, I'll probably try one of their special sausage sandwiches. The tasting room is decorated in a clean, comfortable way. Very inviting and has interesting antique architectural details. It's fancy, but not overboard. The clientele was good. There were a lot of very interesting conversations going on all around that made the experience fun too. Give it a go! read more

Before you go for that familiar style of beer that you love, try one of the more unusual brews on the menu. The more unusual the better. Better yet, get a flight and try four. You won't regret it. Vis Major's beers possess excellent balance no matter the adjunct. The Tap Room itself is lovely. The columns really break up the space, giving a sense of privacy and limiting the din. Behind the bar, the use of an old Victorian style ceiling gives it a backdrop that really fits. The bartender has been very helpful, immediately letting me know what beers were out and what beers were now on tap. I was expecting to have to order at the bar too, but I haven't had to because the bartender has come out to where I was sitting. I'm so glad to see that they opened. Like many others, it was back in summer of 2015 that I first heard of their plans to open a brewery, and also had a chance to try their beers. It's a long time coming, but it has been worth the wait. The beer is average to above-average but the space is great. Just look at the pictures. The style options have something for most people, but I'd still suggest a flight just to try different things. I recall them having a few single hop options that were interesting. I think it's a bit expensive for Omaha, but probably on par with the fancier breweries in the area. Nice place to hang out, but the wood floors and high ceilings mean it gets super loud when it fills up, as it did when I stopped by. But what a random spot for a brewery. If anything, I could see it fitting into what I see is the future of the industry, where breweries begin more to serve their neighborhoods instead of a traveling group of self-proclaimed aficionados. There are no similar options nearby, so they could easily fit into that. read more

Vis Major is an up and coming brewery which also specializes in bratwurst. Perfect combination!! They have a great mix of beers but I think there oatmeal stout was their best of the bunch. The brats were awesome and unique in flavor. I had the brunch brat which had scrambled eggs, syrup, and sliced apples on top and I was as happy as a clam. Vis Major has a really nice interior, and I am a sucker for backbars. Theirs is super nice! Parking is really easy (big lot across the street). My friend got truffle popcorn which was amazing. We all tried beers, and for me, I would say they are just good. I am more of a sour beer type, so I don't think I can fairly rate the beers. But as a former IPA lover, I'm not so sure about all the fruity flavors to them. I appreciate the attempt to not make a super holly California IPA, though, because that has been overdone. I did like the Raspberry Saison though, and I think the brewery has potential to experiment and try new beers on the public. I'll head back! read more

We came here for beer, to check out the space and try out the pizza. We go to a lot of breweries so we love trying out all the beers. We had a raspberry saison, mango passion fruit gose, peach red currant blonde, a witbier, and a brandy barrel aged apricot ale. The peach blonde was my favorite! All of the beers were so good, tons of variety to fit everyone's tastes, I have zero complaints. A lot of creative flavors, very impressed! But - the most impressive of everything was the pizza!! We got the Goonie pizza and oh my gosh, it was so good. Like honestly the best pizza I've had (I love me some pizza). The presentation was so beautiful I took about 10 photos - and the taste was more impressive than the look. Both my boyfriend and I agreed it's in our top 2 favorite pizzas we've ever had. I'm so impressed with this place. The staff was all very friendly, helpful and laid back making it a great environment even with the Covid precautions that have to be enforced.
