Project Puffin Visitor Center is a small, almost don't-blink-or-you-may-miss-it store in Rockland,…read moreMaine. As we were walking down the streets of Rockland we literally stumbled on it (there was a crack in the sidewalk) and thought "Hey, this looks cool! Let's check it out!". The Project Puffin Visitor Center is small. It's very small. But they pack a lot in it. The lobby also serves as the gift shop. They've got a large selection of Puffin stuff. (hey..Puffenstuff! If you're of *an age* you'll get that reference). Hats, shirts, card, magnets, stickers, books, post cards, stuffed animals...your typical gift shop/souvenir stuff. There's a very nicely done education area in the back of the facility that's informative, with interactive exhibits and an art gallery. And, for those with a whimsical sense of humor, a Puggin toilet paper holder in the VERY small restroom. (photo provided.) It's a small but very cute place to visit. The lobby/gift shop gets pretty crowded if there are more than about a half-dozen visitor. Our visit lasted about 20 minutes. The Project Puffin Visitor Center isn't open all year, so make sure to check their website before finalizing your plans.

(: *Gift shop to get some puffin swag *Informational signs about the project and puffins *Room with a live Puffin cam! The Meh: *Located in DT Rockland, parking can be difficult. The Ugly: *The place is really, really, reeeaaaaalllyyyy tiny. It was fine with the four of us in there, but as soon as another family joined it just felt a bit too cramped for our liking. Conclusion: Cool spot to pickup some swag to support the puffins! P.S. if you have small children you'd probably get more out of it than with a group of grouchy adults.

Trolley rides to the Boott textile mill museum and Boarding House Park for some good music! So much! I've lived in greater Lowell my whole life and I still find out new stuff when I visit. One of our favorite things to do is to enjoy the walking tours that start here. Most Saturdays during the summer and several during the fall may 10am there are walking history tours where experts talk about different areas of the city or topics related to the city. Lowell played a huge part in the Industrial revolution and is now undergoing its own urban renewal these days. It's an exciting place to be. Park rangers are knowledgeable about the history of the area and all the things that make Lowell an amazing place. Free parking with a validated ticket. The actual visitors center is small, but there is lots to see and a gift shop, and it's the best place to start if you want to check out the rest of the urban park's stops.
