We went on a family kayaking trip and used Breakwater Kayak as our guide and outfitter for the…read moretrip. It was very easy to work with the staff to make the arrangements, and they made the trip happen even though they were not fully staffed for their in-season time. When we arrived the staff had taken the kayaks down to a grassy area in the park. The guide got us fitted with life vests, paddles, and spray skirts, and then it was down to the boats for some quick lessons about paddling technique. We were soon out on the water. The guide did a great level of working with our level of experience and provided clear directions about the paddle. We crossed the bay from the put in location to the Breakwater Lighthouse. While this lighthouse is accessible by walking the length of the breakwater (.8 miles) it was great fun to see it by the water. Once we got to the light, we then paddled down the length of the breakwater to a beach by the Samoset resort. The wind was blowing pretty strong from the shore, so this was a pretty good paddle. Once we got to the beach, we were able to get out of the boats for a few minutes and then we were back on the water. The next leg was a pretty good open water crossing again as we made our way back across the bay towards the shipyards. Here you get to see some of the industrial sides of the water. People who depend on the sea to make a living. There was a fishing dock where large fishing boats offload, there is the coast guard station, and then there is the marina and restaurants. Overall we were on the water for just over 3 hours. Our guide was fantastic. She was very knowledgeable about key subjects and really provided a very educational as well as enjoyable paddle. We heard stories about the lighthouses, we learned the history or the area, the lobster fishing industry and all about the ports. While Breakwater Kayak is a smaller operation than some of the others in the area, you are guaranteed to get a well-trained guide who is really wanting to make sure that you have a safe and memorable adventure.

Be prepared to have alternative plans…read more We had a night fireworks cruise cancelled for "weather" 36hrs in advance. No signs of inclement weather on any of the weather apps. As predicted, it turned out to be a Beautiful and calm night. We ended up watching the fireworks from shore. They contract out their crews so it may have been that something fell apart on that side for the night trip. Just be prepared that they may cancel for any reason. A local captain we met during the fireworks show in Camden surmised that there was likely something else besides the weather in their decision. Others in our party were committed to getting in a harbor tour so we ended up getting a day sail earlier in the day. It was a Beautiful day. Competent and friendly captain and crew. They did an excellent job of hosting the harbor tour. Absolutely Beautiful boat. Great way to spend some time on the water. Be prepared for alternative plans.

Campground is an older, no frills facility that really lives up to a state promotional saying…read more"Maine, the way life should be". CASH / CHECKS ONLY. While sites are small and close, we had adequate room for our camper and truck side by side and then room to sit and enjoy the sounds of the Atlantic Ocean from less than 100' away. Our site shared a utility post with neighbor site (front end and wrong side for us as back in unit) and voltage showed low so we used post on next site from us (they were tenting and didn't need power and said ok to plug to their post) Lots of children while we were there, but they were all so well behaved and everyone was enjoying the cool Seabreeze compared to the stifling temps further in town. Lots of rules and regs at this place, but that's part of what made it the perfect location for us during this trip. It gets a 4 out of 5 due to low voltage and utility hookups in a bad setup for us. We're ok with no sewer dump on our site (you can use their's once for every 3 nights or pay extra) but we're use to state parks and such so it was no problem.

The best part is the camraderie of the other campers, ovbiously from some of these ridiculous comments, not everybody "gets it" (try KOA or DaysInn!) - its the fellow campers tuned into the magic. Thank you Eleanor for all you do to keep this special place accessible, I look forward to coming "home" . My kids' best memories are from the Lobster Buoy and we reminisce often.

He sailed us to the Islands of Mattincus , and Monhegan , to east Booth bay and Vinyl Haven , South West harbor , and many new and interesting places. The crew was very well trained and worked great together, on sailing the vessel, and catering to the passengers needs . Then there was the chef and galley hands . They did an excellent job of preparing the meals , and and catering to the passengers, dietary needs . You meet passengers from all over the us, and Canada . Who become family , by trips end . I highly recommend sailing on the Victory Chimes . If you want a unique, relaxing , and satisfying vacation, it's impossible to to beat !

A quaint campground in Stonington, Maine with plenty of good RV & tent sites, a clean bathhouse…read morewith hot showers, laundry and toilets. Camp wood and lobster pots were supplied for cooking lobster & marshmallows at the campsite, though the wood was not well seasoned & smoked a lot. I've also seen deer & hawks in the campground and they are beautiful to watch. There is potable water, electric hook up and a dump station. All the fellow campers I've met at this campground were friendly and helpful and Troy & Monica White are great hosts. Troy goes out of his way to meet his campers & their needs. There is a great little market about 8 min. away called Burnt Cove Market where you can get anything you need including gas, ice, groceries & a bottle of wine. I have enjoyed this campground two years in a row and there are plenty of things to do and see on & around Deer Isle and Stonington including Nellieville, a must see village of life sized junk people created by sculptor, Peter Beerits (https://www.nervousnellies.com/about-us/). There is also an enlightening presentation on the history of the coastal fishing/lobstering market in Maine given down at Stonington Harbor by Leroy Weed, an engaging and very knowledgeable, lifelong lobsterman. There are harbor cruises (we went with Captain Walker who enjoyed sharing additional history and his upbringing on the harbor), and of course those Maine lobsters, as well as shops, and great food.
