Huetor Vega is probably a bit out of the way for most visitors to Granada but by happy chance our flat was smack bang in the middle of it. Our arrival time in Granada was at about 10:30pm and being self catered we didn't have a thing to eat.
Now accepting that Huetor Vega is, at first glance anyway, a sleepy little suburb, and given the time of night, i think its entirely brilliant that the Vista Nevada was not only open but more than welcoming. On our first night out Spanish was at an all time low but with some friendly hand signals from the waiter we were seated and who i can only presume was the owner, brought over olives and bread and muttered conspiratorially in Spanish what i now understand to be "on the house".
Though nearly everything on the menu seemed to be some form of steak and chips it was all very well cooked, incredibly cheap compared to city centre prices in Granada and came with an ever increasing list of freebies.
A note here on the type of visit your having. We were looking to celebrate our arrival and given the hour we weren't fussed where. This wasn't a quiet restaurant (which i think is great). There was a clear family atmosphere with kids running about and a lot of laughter. I get the impression this is a pretty popular spot and would think earlier in the night it would be even better. There are quiet corners to retreat to in Hueter Vega, this probably isn't one of them.
Modest and friendly, like a great many Spanish restaurants it does exactly what it says on the tin and with a smile and a crack at some spanish you'll have an excellent night. read more
