Do NOT use this shipping company - inexperienced and incompetent. We shipped a pallet of aviation parts which was late - when we called to inquire they simple said they couldn't find it in in their warehouse at the delivery destination - no further assistance or effort was made to find it. Strongly advise against shipping with this company. Freight was misdirected, a week late with no notice given, ETA on website was off by 7 days. On top of it, they sent the invoice to the incorrect contact - THREE TIMES. Not only that but the shipping rate was quoted at $800 - the first invoice showed up at $3000, then they corrected it and we paid it, and then yet another invoice came through again, this time for $11000. When I contacted my account manager's superior to notify them of the issues and the reasons we would not be shipping with them again, my account manager called me and was quite snarky. She felt the need to react to my complaint about her but was nowhere to be found when I needed help with my missing freight. There are many many shipping companies and no need to ship with one that is unorganized and unprofessional at every level - particularly if you value your freight. read more

Avoid this freight shipping company if you can. On Thursday 7/8, I ordered a pallet of air conditioning equipment that was shipped from a manufacturer in Michigan. The estimated time for delivery was 4 business days to L.A. plus a day or two for the local delivery. Wednesday of the following week the tracking status reflected that the equipment was on the dock at the local warehouse. I wasn't contacted by Vitran on Wednesday or Thursday, so I called at end of day Thursday 7/14 to ask if I could pick up the equipment myself. Vitran agreed and told me to arrive early on Friday the 15th. I arrived at the warehouse at 8 AM on Friday the 15th and waited over a half hour while they looked for the shipment. While waiting, I watched the fork lift drivers fly around the warehouse like jackasses poking holes in the sides of boxes while pushing pallets by the boxes on them with the fork lifts and stopping and turning so abruptly that items were flying off the front of the fork lifts. After a half an hour of waiting, they were unable to find my shipment. They told me the truck it was on had arrived and that was why the tracking info reflected it was at the warehouse, but that it may not actually be there. They said they would call back later in the day on Friday 7/15. Vitran didn't call back on Friday. I didn't hear from them until Tuesday 7/19 of the following week. At 6:00 AM Tuesday morning 7/19 a representative called to say they would be making the delivery Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday came and went with no delivery. Finally, on Thursday 7/21 (two weeks after the order was placed), they delivered the equipment. Every box on the pallet was mangled with holes in the sides or crunched corners. One piece of equipment was destroyed; it looked like a forklift fork had gone right through the side of it. In the end the equipment was ultimately replaced and covered by insurance, but what a huge inconvenience and delay and the delivery took two weeks when it should have taken a week at the most. read more

Vitran Express is the Worst freight/shipping company i have ever dealt with. Their customer service agent LIED to me. The company is INCOMPETENT, IRRESPONSIBLE, & CALLOUS of the customer's needs. These themes seem to echo in the other 3 reviews on this website of this company's substandard and unprofessional service. I ordered a solid rosewood cal king sized bed from a company on the internet for my vacation home. some of the parts were the wrong size. after waiting for 3 months for the right parts to be available, they were shipped via Vitran Express. I have had ordered many things online for my house; ups, fedex, reddaway, usps. no problem with any of them. i was furnishing the house fully up for rental starting december and this is my last trip to make sure that everything is ready. i booked my plane ticket here from thurs to monday with the top priority of seeing that the bed be delivered and the furniture company would hire someone locally to assemble the bed. on tuesday nov. 13, i got a voicemail from agent #2, saying that their truck only goes to my area, inland empire of california,on wednesdays or fridays; so we rescheduled to friday, nov. 16, between 8-10am. by 9am, there was still no delivery or phone call. i went online with my tracking number. it says that my shipment would be delivered on nov. 21. what? What was not what the agent told me. i called their number immediately and asked to speak to the agent. i asked where my packages was. immediately, the agent said that my package could not get there because their truck broke down. i replied that i scheduled for delivery today friday, not wednesday, after we spoke earlier this week. she denied ever having talked to me. i asked her where the package is. she went and checked and replied that it is still sitting on their dock in Fontana, CA and their driver is gone for the day. so i just had to wait until next wed. i told her that that is not acceptable. i asked that the package be delivered on monday before i leave. she then put me on hold, saying that she would talk to her manager. after over 10 minutes, she came back and said that her manager said that there is no driver/no truck and no way to deliver before wed. i told her that i would not be there to receive the package and i need to be there . then the agent shifted the conversation to how she did not talk to me, that i did not book the appointment and that was why it was not on their delivery schedule (ALL LIES), that i did not call back after her voicemail. when i asserted the time and date and the details of our call, she went back to her tune that there was nothing she could do for me, that she did not know why the shipment did not go out, that i just have to find someone to sign the shipment etc. or i can drive 83 miles to pick up the shipment. i rented a corolla for the trip so i asked if they would pay for me to rent a van big enough for the cal king headboard or they can fly me back for another weekend before december to receive the package. She said no to all of them. i then informed my furniture company of the situation and they offered to rectify it by giving me white glove service (delivery and assmebly by another company) but it would be after i leave on monday. they were disappointed by Vitran Express. Moral of the story. DO NOT USE vitran for anything at all. they are unreliable, blame the customer of their own mistakes, and lie through their teeth. i will file a complaint with the chamber of commerce. read more

I have ordered something via toys R Us and they use this company to ship it. It's been 5 f*cking days that they call us back and forth and we ask if they can deliver between 5-7pm and they say yes and the next day the delivery guy calls around noon to deliver. When my husband tells him about the 5-7pm over the phone, the guy's like ''I'll call dispatch and call you back'' and he never does. So turns out my son is not getting his birthday present because these incompetent idiots are absolutely unable to ptovide any sort of decent customer service. This is to avoid absolutely. Same happened to me. Brand new custom made dining table. Dented and damaged, foklift holes in the side of the crate. Now I understand why. Andthe company's response: "We respectfully decline your claim." If I wanted messed up furniture, guess I would have bought it from a second hand store... Don't use Vitran. They're lousy. They didn't show up ontime. They couldn't unload the goods from the truck & my husband and a bunch of his work colleagues had to take time off. They were all messed around. Terrible shipping company..... made arrangments for a specified delivery date and time.....missed the deadline...... missed the date entirely. Called numerous times to see if the shipment was still coming that day... customer service - no answer, no answer, no answer - did not return my voicemail. Called dispatch to see where their delivery truck was..... gave the tracking number, etc. - dispatch didn't have a clue where the shipment was and told me to call back the next morning. Weather and road conditions are fine....100% on Vitran - they were even the ones that called me to arrange the date/time of delivery.....frustrating as I brought in extra staff to receive the shipment. 1-star is being overly generous....this company is terrible! read more

I, 2nd the previous rating.An agent called on a Thursday pm and I missed her. I promptly returned the agent's call and was told she had left for the day, so another individual helped me. I spent 10 minutes with her going over the delivery details and specific time/s for said delivery. The agent said no problem I will let the agent in charge of the am shift know all of this and your packages will be there tomorrow Friday early in the morning. I called on Friday am to confirm that everything was on scheduled as promised. I spoke with the agent who originally called me and to my surprise she had no idea of what I was talking about. To add to the screw up she mentioned that my packages would now have to sit in the warehouse because all trucks were gone. I again spent 10-15 mins explaining to her what I explained to the other agent and she promised as did the other agent that my packages would be the 1st to be delivered Monday morning. I called to confirm today, Monday, and the agent said the packages would arrive before 10:30am and that the driver would call me when he was 20 mins from my location. I called after 10:30am and asked her where were my packages? she said she had NO clue and again called the driver it took me holding 9 mins for her to get back to me, a cell call and answer to a driver should not take 9 mins. She then tells me that a bigger package was blocking my packages so someone decided to skip my early delivery without contacting me and deliver it sometime later today. So the driver could not move that bigger package or call the agent to tell her of the situation and the agent never kept tabs on my packages even after she profusely apologized for what happened with the other agent. All this is a mute point, as the driver arrived he explained to me that he was scheduled late in the morning and left his yard at 11am so there is no way he could make it from Inland Empire here by 10am. So basically everyone at the office just lied and threw the driver under the bus. He mentioned that they do that all the time, he was not surprised by it. He apologized and dropped off the bikes. This is the WORST shipping company EVER! Whatever you do, do NOT USE VITRAN! Each time I call to track my shipment I receive another excuse as to why it wasn't delivered. It is now Thursday, the 4th day I was promised to receive my shipment, and I was just told by a very rude lady that I will not be receiving my shipment. In addition, she said that if she had known that it was going to a group of volunteers at a school she would have never tried to deliver it in a timely manner. On September 14th 2011 we tried to ship four hundred pounds of plastic cone media to Santa Clara from Simi Valley. Vitran never notified us that it had not delivered and it just sat on their dock. When I followed up with the customer on this order we realized that they never received it and it turned out to be lost. I spoke to Sam at Vitran's San LeandroTerminal and he promised a call back by the end of the day. I called back a couple hours later and they told me he went home for the day. No one from Vitran called me. They didn't seem to care about my shipment. It's been over two months and now they have offered to pay for half of the value of the shipment. We lost time, money, gained an angry customer. We highly recommend that no one ships with Vitran. FYI, we have had great luck with Estes Express and UPS Freight. read more

The only reason to hire these people is because they have the last truck on earth. If you hire them, you don't care about your merchandise. Vitran had my package in their warehouse on Friday. I called them, thinking I might pick it up so I don't have to wait til Monday. I find it's 50 miles away, so I didn't. A supervisor said he will send out emails, to be sure it got delivered on Monday. The truck pulled in to my business truck dock, I unloaded a pallet which was obviously not my item, and the driver was ready for me to sign when he realized it was the wrong pallet! My package was not on the truck, it had been left behind. The driver drove here for no reason! When I had called Friday, someone in the room in Vitran was talking so loudly the supervisor couldn't hear me. I had to repeat the shipping number to him. It's Tuesday morning, let's see what happens...Another no-show! I call Tues eve., they tell me it'll be here Wednesday. A gal calls me to make an appt., I tell her it isnt needed, just bring it before 4 P.M. The driver shows up at 7 P.M.!! So it goes back to the warehouse. I call Thurs., a female told me to hold, which I did for 6 or 7 mins and she hangs up on me! A worker later says its loaded on their truck to be delivered today. I wont believe it til I see it. They could have delivered it Monday, or Tuesday, or Wednesday. It's Thursday. The warehouse manager said he'll look into it and call me back. He failed. The company is INCOMPETENT. It's Friday, and they're not going to deliver it 'til Monday. They suck eggs so bad! What a joke! I can't believe they're still in business. They've had it for 8 DAYS!!! read more

This company caused over $600 in damage during shipment and spent 4 months deliberating before they decided to offer $300 in damages because the equipment being shipped wasn't brand new. Although it was in new condition when it left our facility and we had images to prove it. They said, if you want more money you can sue us, but we have lawyers who know we will win. If I could give Vitran 0 stars, I would. It took over 2 weeks for delivery. When I went online to track my shipment, it said it would be delivered on Friday. I called that Friday and they scheduled delivery for Tuesday between 1 & 5. On Tuesday, I called to check on the status of the delivery and they said it could not be delivered to my residential neighborhood because the 50ft trailer couldn't turn around in the cul-de-sac. No planning on their end. We've had plenty of delivery trucks and flat bed trucks deliver in our neighborhood, but they said it was too risky. They asked for me to meet the driver so I could transport the items. I refused since my 1 yr old was napping and I didn't have a truck. They joked with me about the chances that my 1 yr old would wake up while I met the driver. I was shocked that they would even suggest that I pick it up since I paid for shipping. They said they would call wednesday to set up delivery with a lift gate truck on Thursday. I gave them my work number to call on Wednesday, but they never called. I came home from work to find an invoice saying they tried to deliver but no one was home. I called Thursday upset that they didn't call me before trying to deliver my furniture. They said they would deliver between 1 & 3 on Friday. At 2:20 on Friday, still no delivery. I called Vitran & found out the driver was 1 hr away making a delivery. They again said the truck couldn't deliver the bed to my house and asked if I could meet the driver to transport my the bed myself. I asked them about the lift gate truck and the supervisor said that's an extra charge. On their invoice slip, it says it's residential, but the supervisor said that the lift gate truck wasn't requested by the 3rd party (i.e. the company I ordered it from). The bed finally came and the driver wasn't even curtious enough to say hello when he arrived. He brought the boxes in, gave me the slip, and then gave me a hard time when I pointed out the punctured boxes. Luckily the bed didn't have any damage. I was so disappointed in the lack of communication and customer service. I'm surprise that they are still in business. read more

There should be a choice for being able to rate with a negative star. As with all other reviews, this shipping company redefines the word incompetent. I ordered a product for the local high school football team from a very reputable company, and they shipped it via Vitran - or should I say Vi-scam. Although the shipment was supposed to be delivered in 5 business days, it took 4 weeks. During this time, the customer service representative from the company I ordered the product from was trying to get a handle on things with Vitran, but was getting the run around from them. On the day it was scheduled to finally be delivered, the driver called me with a question about the delivery location. I asked him why it took so long for the delivery to be made. He stated that he tried to deliver it a week before, but there was no one around to receive the shipment. I asked what time he tried to deliver it, and he said 5:30 p.m. Keep in mind, he knew full well that it was being delivered to a high school. They never called me or the company about the failed delivery attempt. Once we cleared up the delivery location question, I asked him to call from his cell phone when he was about 20 minutes out so I could meet him at the school to take delivery (this was during summer practice, so the coaches were not there for the whole day). He said he did not have a cell phone. Although he said he would be there around 1:00, he finally called me at 4:00, and said he was at the location. When I pulled up, what do you think he was doing? Talking on his cell phone! That's right, the one he said he didn't have. Then, once he opened up the back of the truck, the product was so obviously damaged that I cannot believe they even bothered delivering it. Now, here is where it gets pathetically amusing. I called the company who I purchased the product from, told them about the damage, etc., and they said they would get a replacement out immediately. I asked that they use a different shipping company. That was 2 weeks ago. Well, they used Vitran again anyway (something about having to use them again because of the damage claim), and guess what happened? Vitran lost the shipment! So, a piece of practice equipment the team needed for summer practice that should have been delivered in 5 business days has now taken over 6 weeks (and counting) to get...and ALL BECAUSE OF THE INCOMPETENCE OF VITRAN!
