My tattoo experience was extremely stressful and ended up very poor overall here. I had to go see another artist to get fixed what I could, and the owner of Vivid Ink chose to keep my deposit after respectfully explaining my concerns with his work and canceling my future appointments a month and 2 months in advance. This was a cover up and rework piece and the owner gave me little to no options on it while making it sound like it was impossible to do and coming across very crass when I voiced any ideas or concerns about a large piece of ink that would be on my body for life. I paid and tipped them very well for work I was very unhappy with and not what I asked for with unnecessary shading in one part that has to get corrected, and still thd last jab was not even being willing to refund a $100 deposit. Highly stressful experience to end a stressful experience of a 13 year old bad tattoo being made into a worse tattoo until I try to have it fixed. I wish there would've been more collaboration and empathy and professionalism in the work and communication. I also feel it would've been more professional and safe feeling to show any needles being used being opened to the client, and disclose ink ingredients. read more

To say that I have been satisfied here is an understatement. I have worked with two different artists, but I have interacted with pretty much everyone at the shop and everyone is both an amazing person and truly an amazing soul. The shop is clean and well ran and truly a great atmosphere. Now on to my tattoos, I had my first from Davon and it was everything I wanted it to be. Such crisp work and truly can not thank him enough. Now on to Howard. Where do I begin? He is an amazing person first; and truly a fantastic person to just talk too, but we have started working on my Spider-Man sleeve and it is absolutely amazing work! I went to Vivid Ink for a daith piercing and was incredibly disappointed. Steff, who pierced me was extremely rude and barely made eye contact. She seemed to answer my questions begrudgingly. I told her I wanted a 16g hoop. She refused, saying she never pierced with anything less than a 14g. Furthermore, she only did curved barbells so there was less opportunity for rotation/infection. It made sense at the time so I accepted it. After the procedure was over, she hardly cleaned the site. I sat up and blood dripped from my ear onto my lap. I had to specifically ask for a tissue before she finally got me one. She then rushed me out of the studio, not even touching on anything having to do with aftercare. I left feeling rather violated and overlooked. As time progressed, I became increasingly unhappy with the look of the piercing/jewelry, and it's bulkiness became irritating. I went to another piercing studio to get it checked out and the artist was appalled. He told me daiths are generally pierced with a 16g or 18g and hoops are usually used to avoid back and forth movement through the hole. In fact, I was already showing signs of an early keloid formation due to the irritation, and my daith was swollen to double it's normal size. Despite my piercing being only a couple weeks old, he removed the gaudy 14g barbell and replaced it with a 16g hoop. I am not exaggerating when I say my ear healed almost overnight! I cannot speak for the tattoo side of things, but please do not go here for piercings! They don't know what they're doing and their etiquette leaves much to be desired! read more

So I recommend that if you're looking for a good quality tattoo don't go there!... They never even gave the kind artist enough time to draw out what I wanted done. Greg worked to continue adding to her sleeve filling in space and worked to start mine. I don't know who all these 'rude' staff members are supposed to be but I thought everyone working there was very approachable and appropriate. I won't go anywhere else in the Lansing area for tattoo work or piercings. Shop is clean (including the bathrooms, which how many times have you gone into a place and thought it looked clean then went to the bathroom and realized it was all a front? this place is SPOTLESS). Greg did my some work on my leg, 4 hours worth. His 4 hours got more done than some other artists 6 (speaking from experience). Not only is he an amazing artist and knew exactly what vision I had for my tattoo, but he is great to sit and talk to during the tattooing process as well. I don't know how many other shops I'd throw in headphones and just let them work but he seemed to actually enjoy conversing with his clients. 10/10 would recommend. read more

So my sisters and I all wanted to get a tattoo for our other sister who was sick with cancer. So clearly this was an important tattoo because we wanted to show her before she passed away. Well we ended up with shitty work and the guy was kind of a jerk. I think he was an apprentice but he didn't disclose that information... because if he did I would have not allowed him to touch us. The tattoo was far from what I wanted, it got infected, I have scarring because he went too deep, it literally took months to heal and the scabs to fall off. I thought I was going to end up losing a leg because of the infection. My sisters also had the same issues just not as bad. He also sucked at coloring, and he acted offended when I tried to tell him to stop adding black to my YELLOW ribbon... my ribbon looked green. He definitely didn't know how to tattoo black people, he was just really sure that the color would not show up on our skin. The guys name started with a D...we he killed my experience with Vivd Ink and he was expensive. Long story short I had to go get it redone by another artist in Detroit. read more

I have to say up front that I am a loyalist by nature, and when I connect with a quality artist, I tend to stick with that artist long term. My desire is to support a quality artist. I had a tattoo done almost 15 years ago by a different artist where I lived. Since then, I have moved and wanted to get further work done. I walked into Vivid in 2018 to meet with one of the artist giving them my ideas. After laying out my idea, I was convinced to have a cover up instead. I reluctantly went with their idea only to LOVE the cover up. I assured the artist that I only wanted to work with them and even went as far to schedule multiple appointments. I took vacation days on my scheduled appointments only to be met with numerous text messages that they needed to cancel the appointment. I work at a job that does not give many vacation days. I was able to re-schedule a couple of my appointments. When I did meet with them, I tried to tip more than normal cause I loved the work and hoping that they wouldn't cancel on me again. Unfortunately, they continued to cancel but assured that they would make it up to me. Since the last conversation in August, 2019, I have not heard from the artist again. I am thankful that I was able to find a new artist at a different shop that is helping me further my design. read more

Got my first tattoo done by Greg this afternoon. All I have to say is good things about him as well as the shop. First I will start with Greg- I originally did not have the best idea of what I wanted and he told me to think about it and to let him know when I did, which is very professional that he wants you to know what you want. He then took 2 ideas that I had and mashed them together to create the beautiful chest tattoo that I have. He was great to work with and offered me breaks every so often. He is very artistically talented and completed my tattoo much quicker than I even imagined. He was very reasonably priced, with exceptional work. He also was very easy to talk to and I believe that helped my tattoo hobby faster. He also helped to get my mind off the needles in my skin. Now on to the shop- This shop has a very homey feeling. I was nervous at first because it was my first tattoo and I was not sure what to expect. It is a very calming shop and extremely clean. So my sister and I had an appt. here had to reschedule it due to her hitting a deer on her way up from KY. So on the reschedule our guy had a family emergency and had to cancel the appt. not a problem at all. I get it things happen. This time we couldn't reschedule due to we don't know when she's coming back in town. Since this is neither really the tattoo artist or my fault I feel I should get my deposit back. So they been ignoring me on the situation. Then the artist wrote me saying he'd call me when he got back in. Days after he got back in I still haven't heard from them. This place is a scam don't ever leave a deposit because if you do you might not get it back even if you weren't the last one with an emergency. The is a true story that just happened at Vivid Ink weekday hours until 10pm????. At 7:04pm I called Vivid Ink and I told the person that answered the phone that my wife is inflected with Micro-Valve Prolapse and anytime that she has to experience a needle she must take medication. She went to the dentist today so she had to take a special prescription to counteract any reactions she may have to the needles. So today would be the perfect opportunity to get the tattoo that she has been wanting. The person I was speaking with said that tonight they were open until 10pm. I told him that my wife got out of work at 8pm and we would be there shortly after. He replied " we have a meeting tonight at 10pm but we will have plenty of time to do what you need because we have no scheduled appointments tonight. I hung up the phone and was excited that I would be able go there with my wife tonight. Upon arrival at 8:14pm I was greeted by the person that I spoke with earlier and explained that I had called and he chuckled under his breath and said oh yeah I talk to you, and he said that he was sorry that he couldn't help me tonight. He said that when he told the "artist's" that I had called and would be there shortly after 8pm that they were not happy and that they wanted to close early for the meeting??? I called for more than one reason and the person "running" your shop thought it was funny that I was disappointed and even told me that I needed anger management.
