The fries are perfectly cooked and served hot and tasty. They offer a variety of sauces to complement the fries (be wary, though, what the Dutch call "fry sauce" is mayo). Frites are double fried with a variety of sauces to choose from. 25 sauces to be exact. The fries have the perfect exterior crispness with a soft center. Properly cooked potatoes. Fries come in small, medium, and large cones. Small size is more than enough for one person. My boyfriend absolutely loves the onion, satay, and mayo sauce. The apple sauce was a surprisingly tasty complement to the frites. This is a super popular place with locals and tourists alike. Because of this, the line to the walkup window can sometimes be long. If you're anywhere near Dam Square, you've gotta stop by Vlaamse Frites... hands down one of the best fries I've had in Amsterdam! The fries were piping hot, golden, and perfectly crispy on the outside with that soft, fluffy center that makes you keep reaching for more. The sauces cost extra, but definitely worth it. I got the fritesauce, which had this creamy, slightly sweet mayo flavor that paired so well with the fries. You can also add chopped onions for free, which added a nice crunch and extra flavor. Fries are a big deal in Amsterdam. Some say they originated in nearby Belgium. Whatever the case may be, these fries are unique. Tastes very fresh and they have a large range of toppings. Not your basic fries and ketchup. Definitely have to give it a try if you're out in the city here. By the way, their standard (normal) way of getting fries is with mayonnaise. Amazing fries! Quick and helpful with their craft. Informal but long lines at times. Nice and relax atmosphere.

I feel like the fries are way overhyped. They are good and more like chips than fries we get in the states. Has a nice crisp to them and it's fluffy inside, but I wouldn't say they blow my away. I got these with their specialty curry sauce (mayo, onlon & raw onions). Not sure if I'm trippin, but I tasted peanut butter and the sauce is on the sweet side. If you were hoping for the curry taste, like I did, then you will be disappointed for sure. Taste nothing like curry. I didn't taste the spices or heat or even the smell that's associated with curry. I guess the Dutch have a different meaning of curry. I would recommend you get the small as that's already a lot of fries. Even if you plan on sharing, I would still recommend you get the small size so that you can sauce up the other one with something else. This location is kind of hidden in a smaller street. So just keep your eye out for it or you will miss it. Shouldn't be too hard to find as there will most likely be a line. read more

While visiting Amersterdam after a long walk we discovered the fry place off the main road. The fries were served in a poke, were perfectly fried & came with a really good selection of sauces. Do you like very large fries with no seasoning? I suggest coming here. Their fries had no salt on them which is good if you have high cholesterol and other health concerns but I for one, am not worried about my deteriorating health. Saw a lot of these stores around Amsterdam and finally stopped by on. This reminds me a lot of pommes frites in nyc where they largely specialize in serving fries with a lot of different sauces. Here there are also burgers and hotdogs and of course fries. They have the typical ketchup/mayo but also curry ketchup, tartar sauce, spicy sauces and more! I settled for a medium sized cone of French fries with the special sauce which was ketchup, mayo and onions sprinkled on top. Not a bad mid afternoon snack! read more

The food was great! We ordered the fries with cheese sauce + truffle mayo ... but the service was horrible. It was late at night and the guy taking our order was rude. We are American and asked him if he spoke English, and he made a big deal about it. Amidst taking our order he stopped and ignored us and started saying something in Dutch. I couldn't understand what he said, but from his body language I got the vibe he was talking shit about my family. Again the fries were good, but this guy and his coworker left a bad taste in my mouth. I came here on a Friday afternoon, right before a line started to form. I had no idea what I wanted but the man working the counter was more than helpful. I had some questions about the different sauces they had to offer and he gave me a sample of five different spicy sauces (which were all very good). I ended up choosing the spicy Thai chili sauce and cheese and it was PERFECT. They also have some sort of salty seasoning to go on top. When we planned our vacation in the Netherlands my first thought was: "I WILL eat a Frikandel!" To be honest I was a little but disappointed. I never had one before and I might never have another one that is not homemade. As you might expect the Frikandel speciaal (speciaal is with mayonnaise, ketchup and chopped onions) was an industrially produced frozen one. That was okay for me as I didn't think I would get something homemade but it simply did not taste of anything but the speciaal ingredients. I could also have eaten a piece of cardboard with mayonnaise, ketchup and onions. On the other hand the fries I had were great. The were crispy on the outside and hit on the inside just like they have to be. I had mine with the Remouladesaus which tasted awesome. I'm not sure if the owner puts a little extra spices into it but I really liked it. Next time I come to Amsterdam I will surely come back to have another portion fries at this location. And btw the man who seems to be the owner looks like a fine old grandfather. The younger guy seemed a little stressed. read more

The ARE the best fries we have ever had...ever! I had read about this location and it was also brought to our attention by our daughter.We had Belgian fries and they were exceptional compared to American fries but could these be better? We weren't exactly sure where the location was and while walking, we saw the inevitable line and knew we were there. We passed by several times during our stay and the line never went away. There is a good reason for that. While the employees efficiently keep the line moving by taking orders and payment this stand is so popular the line just never stops. I was so excited I had my wife take my smiling photo while on line. We agreed to try a small batch as our mid day snack and get the Amsterdam traditional topping of mayonnaise. while on one side, I placed the order to one employee, another next to her took the money from my wife. Very efficient with amazingly reasonable prices. We stepped aside and waited a mere minute or two till they called out for us to get our order. The small order was huge and was hot (and stayed hot on this cold and drizzly day -was it drizzling; hard to tell since I was so distracted by the fries), crispy on the outside, soft inside and oh so delicious. The sauce was a separate charge but amount was , if there is such a thing, a bit too much and we made a delicious mess of ourselves. The mayo, I will say, tastes different than American mayo as it has a hint of sweetness (as does Dutch ketchup). As we ate the crispness of the air and the dampness of the day, disappeared into a romantic adventure shared by my wife and I. We laughed, we cried (not really), we kissed (perhaps to get that last bit of fry on her lip) and still today think longingly about our date with the most wonderful fries in the world. read more
