Close to our stay and awesome food served until late!!! Definitely recommend the burger and fries!

Irish Blue on top, Cheesy on bottom
Cristal J.

We are Americans visiting Amsterdam. Couldn't find any traditional Dutch spots near our hotel, so we tried Burger Bar. It has great reviews and the line was nearly out the door. We snagged a seat. The line took about 30 min. My mom got the Irish Blue burger and I ordered the Cheesy. Both came with steak fries. The fries are really plain and the sauce is nothing special (I got garlic aioli). My burger was cooked well-done as expected. Mom's can super rare, evem those she ordered medium rare. They recooked one for her. My burger was okay--good, not great. I exprcted it to have more melty cheese. There were only 2 slices of cheese for the Cheesy burger, and they were barely melted. There was way too much arugula on it as well. Definitely not worth the hype. Honestly, I'd prefer most burgers at home much better--even 'high end' fast food like SmashBurger is better. My mom enjoyed her burger, even though she had to wait close to an hour for it. Atmosphere-wise, it's cute and simple inside. Not much seating for a super popular spot. They play a nice variety of music softly in the background--mostly pop songs. I wouldn't return. Hopefully, we'll find some bomb Dutch food tomorrow!

Goat cheese mushroom burger

These burgers were good. My sister enjoyed theirs very much. My burger was good but the goat cheese was a bit overpowering. The fries are cooked to order and fresh tasting. Service was quick and the order was just as ordered.

I initially went here with a friend to have a burger but the menu at this location has more to offer than the other locations. So on a whim since it had been awhile I decided to try the angus rib eye steak, medium rare. With that I ordered fries and a small caesar salad that came with tomatoes and anchovies. For a small salad it was fairly good sized and the best caesar salad I've had in awhile. The steak came first and was actually medium rare, tender and tasted great. Frankly, I'd expected less but was more than glad to get more. Along with the steak came a small bowl of coleslaw. It was actually some very tasty coleslaw at that. To top it all off I ordered a beer to go along with the meal. Now this turned out to be a good sized meal that I was actually enjoying. I say that with relish as a good meal is a very nice treat after so many "ho hum ones". They also serve a steak sandwich at this location that I'll have to come back and try. After that I'll have to go back and maybe try a burger. The location is a busy one so there's lots of people coming and going most of the time. Even so there's still seating available. Lastly, they're dog friendly. Woohoo!!

Black angus burger

Ok, here we go.. Had the black angus burger with grilled onions, cheddar cheese and jalapeños Verdict: it's big, it's good BUT the meat was a bit dry, could be a bit more spicy but the HP sauce made up for that. All in all good but I've had better...

Grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings

This place was one of the suggested places to eat in Amsterdam. I'm glad I was able to make it in on my trip. The atmosphere is very cool and relaxed. It's small and maybe holds about 50 people at a time. The place is usually packed because it's so good. I was glad to have caught it on a night where we were able to get a table. The grill is right in the dining area so you can see your food being prepared. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and onion rings. You say, " what's so great about that"? Best chicken sandwich and onion rings I've had in a long time. The chicken grilled perfectly so that it was still moist. The onion rings had a crunchy tempura type batter that was delicious and not at all greasy. Checked off my bucket list but on my next visit to Amsterdam I'll be sure and stop by again for dinner. Side note: I ordered food from them with UberEats too. Great food delivered to my hotel.

Busy lunch hours seemed to be dropping off around 13:30, about when I was there. It's possible there's an upstairs, but it was roped off on my visit. I decided to go with a unique combination, an unconventional choice, with the "Silence of the Lambs" burger, a patty made out of lamb, topped with goats cheese and sautéed onion. There was just one guy manning the register, and one lady cooking in the back. The first bite was divine, but towards the end I found it to mellow out to a rather neutral impression. I'd like to have tried a beef burger, and was contemplating the Dragon, but when in Ams. Worth a try, if convenient to do so.

I ordered the cheesy freak, my daughter ordered the silly cheesesteak and my other daughter and hubby got the classic plus we ordered a side of roasted potatoes. Our burgers were cooked PERFECTLY to medium rare! The three cheeses were so nicely melted and complemented each other beautifully. The burger was juicy but somehow not greasy! We realized this just be the difference between American beef and grass fed Dutch beef! And the potatoes were to die for! I do not typically like roasted potatoes, but these were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked so they were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The service was spot on! When we walked in, there were not enough seats, but the staff took our order, and assured us that there would be seats by the time our food was ready. As soon as other patrons finished their meal, the staff called us in from outside to come and take our seats. Minutes later, our meal was delivered! They were so friendly and accommodating to us and made conversation. The vibe is very inviting and cozy. It is amazing that they were able to rotate all of the patrons in and out in an appropriate amount of time. I loved the music too! I am so glad we came here! It was a perfect end to our visit to Amsterdam!

I originally thought it was the German Burgermeister chain which we really liked in Lucerne. We were even more curious when finding out that it's a local burger spot with only 3 locations in Amsterdam. This one is located on Utrechtsestraat in the city center near Rembrandt Square. It appears to be a small space when you first enter. There's a downstairs kitchen with bar seating as well as a booth at the window. Their actual dining area is upstairs. We were greeted immediately and asked to sit anywhere. Our order was taken at the table. It was great service from the get-go! I think our biggest first impression was the cleanliness of the restaurant and bathrooms. You just don't see that level of clean just anywhere. The burgers here are exceptional. They are gourmet-type burgers that are cooked to order. We thought about getting fries with it, but decided not to after seeing the size of these burgers. I could barely eat it all. Our Mokum Cheese Burger was absolutely delicious and very juicy. I loved every topping. I can't name it all, but I know it had some type of aged cheese with a hint of horseradish in the sauce. The pickles were tasty. I wish I could give you every ingredient. All I know for sure is that it's made with Blonde d'Aquitaine beef. They have a cookbook for sale if you're interested. The drinks are varied from gin & tonic to beer, wine, and lemonade. I enjoyed their loose-leaf jasmine mandarin tea served hot. There's a little room upstairs for creative people who like to sketch. I saw some of them decorating the walls. Having a burger in different countries may seem uninspiring for some people. I've found it to be very telling of the local culture and flavor. Especially in restaurants that have a standard of high quality ingredients. This is one that I'd go back to when visiting Amsterdam. The service made it even better.

I believe the level burgerdom at Ter Marsch is good quality - yet mediocre in taste. The bun is stale. At least mine was. I'm not sure if it was intended to be in that condition. The burger is thick and juicy, but lacking in the fresh beefiness that I wanted. What sets it apart is the aioli sauce - really top notch. The lettuce fell out. Shredded lettuce would have been better. The problem was the hockey puck burger sat high in the middle of the bun. When you bite into it, you get a mouthful of bun, and the hockey puck gushes out the side. If you bite into the hockey puck the rest of the ingredients gush out the side and down your hand, and you're left with disintegrated stale bun pieces. Sweet potato fries were ok, and the truffle sauce sent it over the top. But honestly, it's middle of the road in Southern California Burger Land.
