We did have to wander around quite a bit to find the bar that contained liquor, but we were persistent! Airport was clean and all employees we encountered were pleasant. We waited about an hour and a half in a very hot line to clear immigration. None of the self-service kiosks were open. When the Schengen line was totally clear, I hoped they would start taking people from our line; no such luck. The gentleman who helped us was nice, but it took way too long to get to him. It is very convenient that the train station is right there in the airport, though I wish the platform system was made a bit more clear no the kiosks when buying tickets. For those of us who don't have this type of transit in our home cities (Los Angeles), it made transportation tough. In fact, we got on the wrong train and what should have been a 15 minute ride from Schiphol to Centraal became an hour-long detour in the broiling heat.

There was only one person in the duty free shop, which means you might have to wait for ages. It is fairly easy to get to Rotterdam, there is a bus, 3 EUR one way - you can either buy your ticket in a ticket machine or from the driver if you have EUR.

This airport has a lot of connectivity to other airports throughout Europe and north Africa. We recently caught a direct flight from Eindhoven airport into Marrakesh, Morocco for our seventh marriage anniversary trip and it was so very convenient for us. Some of the boarding procedures struck me as odd because since this is a very small airport, you are made to stand outside and walk to your plane. I have done this another small airports but we were made to stand outside in the freezing rain for a long time due to slight miscommunications before we got the green signal to board our plane. If they could iron out these small inefficiencies, I would give this airport five stars.

We watched an animated movie called Batman Aztec: Clash of Empires which cleverly adapted the Batman mythology to the time of Hernan Cortes and Montezuma. Then we read some, and napped some, and I also watched F1. The 9 plus hours passed quickly, during which KLM staff served us two meals and a snack. The staff were cheerful and helpful, and overall the travel experience was very pleasant! We were tired because we only slept 3-4 hrs, but very satisfied. Highly recommend KLM!

And unlike the first four times, I'm no longer a Diamond Medallion after a job change and significant downturn in my personal flying travel. This is how most passengers fly. My train to Schiphol was delayed so I didn't have time to hit up a lounge and I didn't have time to pick up anything along the way to the gate. It was a fast walk from the train platform, a priority queue at the ticket counter to check my bag (a ten day trip that was too big for a carryon plus two bottles of French wine), a rush through security and then more fast walking through terminals to the gate. I arrived in time to watch the Delta One cabin board. Fifteen minutes later, everyone was on the aircraft and the doors closed. It was organized chaos as too many passengers standing in the way ("gate lice") but the ground services team doing their best to keep an aisle clear. On board my Airbus 330, we pushed back on time, spent some time on the deicing pad, and then we were off on one of the closer-in runways (not the famous Polderbaan that seems halfway to London). On board service in the cheap seats was good from the flight attendants. We had drink services, lunch (I chose a decent cheese ravioli over a chicken curry hoping to avoid spilling it) and a light dinner (a cheese toastie). The wifi worked well, the power outlets worked well and while I didn't manage to sleep, I did get a doze in between movies on this ten hour flight. Improvements? Not much that's within the airline's control. The terminal could be roomier. The passengers could sit until it's time to board. Europe could be closer. Flights could be cheaper, I suppose. We had flown in from Las Vegas (9 hour and 5 minute flight, the longest flight I've ever been on so far) and were waiting to board our flight to Budapest to start our two-week long journey to Europe. I'm probably going to get a ton of heat from saying this, but this here was my first time traveling outside the United States, and Amsterdam Schiphol was the very first European airport I've been in (while this is true, Hungary actually ended up being the first European country I've stepped foot in). This lounge also wasn't a very far walk from our assigned gate. This lounge is huge and they have plenty of seating all around. While I didn't get the chance to try their food, I ended up trying their coffee, which will always be my go-to drink anytime I end up inside of an airport lounge. From what I've been told, the coffee in Amsterdam is really good, and being the coffee lover I am, I'm looking forward to it once we actually make our way back there. Using the coffee machine was a little confusing at first, but eventually I got the hang of it. Showers are included if you're just coming off a very long flight and require a connecting flight. The restrooms here, while smaller than the ones I'm used to back at home, are also clean and very well kept. We may return to this lounge on our way back home to Las Vegas, depending on what gate we may end up in.

There's a bus every 10 minutes. There are hotels along the way so be sure to check the nearest stop to your hotel - if it's even convenient to use the AirPort Express. The bus has USB ports and Wi-Fi. There are spaces for luggage. What I appreciated the most was the kind bus driver who let me hop in as I was anxiously purchasing my ticket online. I had to wait for the email with my QR code. I showed him the first email I got with my receipt. Going back to the airport from the Museumplein bus stop, the wait seemed longer. I missed the bus by seconds and I ran but it left without me! Rude! I had to wait 20 minutes (while rain was pouring) for the next bus. From 1am-5am, hop on the N97 bus which is the night time version of the 397 - same route but longer wait times because fewer buses are available (because there aren't many flights arriving/ departing at those hours).

Boarding was quick and efficient (hard to find these days). They boarded by groups of rows, beginning at the rear of the plane. I wish other airlines were as organized. All of the flight attendants were attentive and kind. Lucy, one of the flight attendants in coach, noticed that I didn't take one of the lunch options. She asked why and I explained that I have a variety of food allergies, which made eating airplane food difficult. Lucy reviewed them with me and suggested that I could order a fruit plate in advance.
