It was only when I went to VMV that I found something that worked for me. Dr. Verallo (VMV herself) suggested that I be treated with ultraviolet light phototherapy. Since I had nothing to lose, and was honestly dying to find a solution, I decided to try it out. During the session, a wand-like instrument that emitted UV rays was held up against my skin for a couple of minutes. I didn't feel anything during this entire time. I honestly thought nothing was happening, but after a few sessions, I noticed how my psoriasis slowly lessened. I was adviced to do at least 30 sessions to see significant results. As i finished my 30th session, I can proudly say that the treatment worked on me. I wasn't completely cleared, but my psoriasis was less noticeable and I felt better inside and out. The waiting room is larger and much more comfortable compared to many other doctors I've visited. (Maybe I just haven't been going to the right ones?) And, very important to my fellow women, the toilets are clean and always stocked with tissue. Dr. Rose Gatmaytan is the one who performs all cosmetic and medical procedures on clients. She works at a steady pace and without mistakes, very crucial skills to have when you're poking at someone's face or body with mysterious instruments. Across her desk she's also patient with customers who ask about procedures, medications, or general queries that deal with prevention. Between the treatments in-clinic and the medicine provided to keep my skin under control in between check ups, I've seen a massive improvement! No more zits and only a couple of dark scars are left. Especially if you're going to see a specialist, or consult with more than one doctor. Laboratory procedures can be quite costly too. That's why I was so thankful my hubby's company provided us with health insurance. I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes during my second pregnancy, so aside from seeing my gynecologist, I also had to consult with an endocrinologist. And both doctors instructed me to have different lab tests almost every week. So the Maxicare office at St. Luke's has been a weekly stop-over before I see my doctors or get a lab test done. I swear; their staff already knows my name by heart. There's usually a queue, but the transactions are quick because they are systematic. You get a number, and you wait for your number to be called. I don't mind waiting for a few minutes, because every time I go there, the girls at the counter greet me with a smile, and they're always willing to assist me in my queries. It's a shame I didn't know their names (I'm making a mental note to ask the next time I'm there). One time I was running late for a check-up, and I left my Maxicare card at home. I asked my mom to go to Maxicare to get my form while I went straight to my doctor's clinic. Not knowing what to do, I walked (yes) to the hospital (alone, yes--I'm brave like that) at night to have myself checked. I was so scared of ending up dying due to anaphylactic shock (don't be so impressed; I just learned this from House) that I decided I needed to see a doctor, stat! The staff at the E.R. of Pasay City General Hospital (not to be mistaken as THE PGH) were thankfully very accommodating. They confirmed that I was indeed exhibiting allergy symptoms. I was asked to buy medicine from the pharmacy across the street (they're a public hospital after all, let's be real and not expect too much, haha) and to come back to the E.R. so they can inject it to me. I dutifully complied. After that, I was made to wait for around 30 minutes so they can observe my reaction to the medicine. I became sleepy, which I was told was a usual side effect of antihistamine. After seeing no untoward reaction, they sent me home. I did not need to pay anything else. I've made several trips to that E.R. since, all for food allergies, and I haven't had any problems with their service. I was attended to fast, even during times when the E.R. was crowded with patients. The staff have also always been cordial. And their facilities are not too shabby either.
