There is plenty of parking available. The ladies at the front desk are always friendly and helpful during our visits. I really like that you can text the phone number and they will get back to you. Our favorite veterinarian on island, Dr. Peacott, has always been exceptional with our furry family members. He has treated us kindly, is very honest and upfront, he explains procedures and medications well, and he stays current on the literature for the best modalities in care. We are honored and grateful to have him as our family veterinarian.

My beloved BeBe struggled in his later years, & despite my efforts, I was unable to find a veterinarian I could fully trust. Sadly, he passed away from pancreatitis that went undiagnosed. The practice I saw, felt rushed & detached, and BeBe's (nor my) pain & distress were met with the concern, that was deserved. Losing BeBe under those circumstances left me heartbroken, carrying deep guilt. Years later, after adopting Buffy, history seemed at risk of repeating itself as he too faced health challenges in old age. Desperate to find better care, I found Dr. Tamura--and everything changed. Her knowledge & attentiveness were immediately evident. She quickly diagnosed Buffy with diabetes & patiently taught me how to monitor his glucose levels & administer insulin. Because of her guidance & care, Buffy went on to live a long, happy, & well-loved life. When the time came to say goodbye to Buffy, Dr. Tamura's compassion went far beyond medical care; it was unforgettable. She sat with me, encouraged Buffy to enjoy his favorite final meal--a personal pan pizza topping...and as Dr. Tamura gently administered the injections, she cried alongside me. That moment meant more than words can express. How many veterinarians share that depth of empathy and tenderness? After many years, I adopted my current pup, Chibi. I feel deeply reassured knowing Dr. Tamura & her amazing team (more like a family) are caring for her. Even now, commuting an hour from Honolulu even during rush hour, does not deter me. The trust, empathy, & quality of care there, are truly rare.

Finding a truly cat friendly vet has been such a relief! We adopted a very sick kitten and also have an older cat who struggles with anxiety and respiratory issues. From our very first visit, Dr. Hester and the staff made us feel secure in that we were getting the best care for our cats. They took the time to listen to all of our concerns and provided tailored care for both of our cats. They treated not just our kitten, but our anxious older (big and kind of mean) cat with such kindness and understanding. Their ability to handle our anxious cat with such care and professionalism is truly commendable. The staff always makes us feel heard and comfortable, and their dedication to their patients is evident. I heard about Arms of Aloha in passing as others recommended them on various Facebook dog groups that I'm a part of. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, one thing that popped into my mind was that, if possible, I'd like to let her cross over at home, where she was more comfortable. This thought was even stronger after having visited the vet so many times in the last weeks of her life. I had read up on the literature available on the Arm's of Aloha website (where you can also get an estimate) as well as preregistered. You can also look at their appointments available. They advise on making an appointment at least 1-2 days in advance, especially on the weekends. The hard part is knowing ahead what day that will be. My dog took a turn for the worst one day and I went back and forth on scheduling the only/last appointment available for the next day (appts can be seen/booked online). No one wants to make that call (decision), but it's also painful to watch your beloved friend suffer. They do have a thorough cancellation policy you can read online and I decided I'd book the last appointment to secure it and I could always cancel/reschedule more than 8 hours out. In the confirmation email, there is a link to a video to watch of the Doctor describing the process so you're familiar - I'd recommend this if it is your first time through this. I guess because it was already the next day, they called me shortly after to confirm my appointment. I could barely get the words out the confirm but I never felt judged by the person on the phone. The morning of the appointment, I received an invoice in my email. They suggest taking care of it ahead of time as doing it in the moment with so many emotion is harder. I appreciated this detail and was able to get it out of the way. At our scheduled appointment time, Dr. Naun came to our house. She has a calm and peaceful energy to her. She had some further paperwork for me to sign then we started the process. It was peaceful, and of course sad, but Dr. Naun brought comfort to the situation and we're so grateful for a service like this. We chose to have our dog's ashes returned to us and about a week later, we received a beautiful urn and our paw prints. With the service, they have a chaplain who you may access to talk to if you need help. I did not use it but they do also offer at home palliative care.

But when we adopted our little Autumn girl, she completely melted my heart and turned me into a die-hard cat lover almost instantly. Our family loves Autumn so much. She is an absolute angel -- truly the sweetest cat I've ever met. So you can imagine how terrified we were this past weekend. During a dinner party, she slipped out through our lanai door without anyone noticing. Around 8 PM we heard the loudest cat fight we've ever heard (and we hear a lot, since there are many stray cats on our property). We realized she was missing and ran outside searching, but couldn't find her. Later that night she came home -- but she could barely walk. One of her legs was twitching, she was wincing in pain, and we couldn't even gently touch her back without her crying out. I immediately feared the worst -- that she had fallen from a tree and broken her back. My son stayed up with her all night, but she didn't improve. The next morning, we drove from the North Shore to VCA Family & Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center after being referred by our regular vet (who was closed since it was Sunday). The receptionist was efficient and straightforward, took my information, and told us we could come right in. When we arrived, we were greeted kindly, given paperwork, and within minutes Autumn was taken back for evaluation. After about 30 minutes, we were brought into the exam room to discuss next steps. I'll be honest -- in my emotional, protective state, my first thought when I saw the veterinarian was that she looked young, and I unfairly questioned whether she had enough experience. I feel a bit silly admitting that now, because Dr. Steph Craven was absolutely incredible. She was confident, knowledgeable, calm, and deeply compassionate. She knew exactly what to do and handled both Autumn and my very anxious mama-heart with so much patience and care. I had prepared myself for the worst. I truly thought we might have to say goodbye. Thankfully, after diagnostics, rest, antibiotics, and pain medication, Autumn is going to be okay. Dr. Steph Craven and the entire staff were professional, communicative, and calm under pressure. In one of the most stressful moments for our family, they gave us clarity and hope. I sincerely hope we never face another animal emergency -- but if we do, they are absolutely on speed dial. Thank you so much for taking care of our girl. Aloha, Lynsey (and Autumn)

Since options for exotic animal vets are limited, I wanted to be sure I chose the best. I'm so glad I decided on VCA Pearl City. My guinea pigs have been patients there since they were 6 months old, and they're now almost three. They go in for their annual checkups, and whenever I have a concern, I can send a photo to the vet or schedule a quick consult. That level of accessibility gives me so much peace of mind. They typically see Dr. Luis Ho for their routine visits, and he has always been really thorough. Recently, one of my guinea pigs developed a lump near her mammary gland that grew overnight to about the size of a quarter. We were so scared. After antibiotics didn't work, Dr. Ho promptly referred us to Dr. Nathaniel Lam for a surgical consultation. Both doctors were incredibly knowledgeable and reassuring, which helped ease our anxiety during such a stressful time. The surgery was successful, and my guinea pig is alive and healthy because of their care. I'm truly grateful to the team at VCA Pearl City for taking such wonderful care of my girls. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for experienced and compassionate care for their exotic pets.

And every single time, this team showed up--with skill, urgency, and unwavering dedication. They didn't just treat him... they gave him more life. Because of them, Joey lived to 15 years and 2 months--time I know I wouldn't have had otherwise. That is something I can never repay. But what truly sets this hospital apart is their compassion. Every doctor, every technician, every staff member treated Joey like he was their own. And they treated me with such kindness and patience through every high and every devastating low.
