You can honestly tell that they care about the animals and aren't just doing their job. Dr. Uruu and Ka'ohi are amazing. They are professional, knowledgeable, and always take the time to make sure my dog is comfortable. They also helped make traveling with my dog so much easier. Since my dog was flying on an airplane, there was a lot of paperwork and requirements to deal with, and they helped us through the whole process. They made everything feel easy and smooth and took away so much of the stress. I am so thankful to have a vet and staff that genuinely cares about my dog. Waipio Vet Clinic has been wonderful to us, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a vet they can trust.

I would like to add that in the original phone call on 5/5, I did request to speak to a manager or Doctor at least twice. Call me a Karen, but I really wanted to speak to someone higher up to see if an exception could be made but the receptionist told me that the managers and Doctors will not make an exception. Clearly, there is a break in communication there because an exception was made and Donna did mention to me on the phone call she had no idea about the scheduling mistake until I made my initial Yelp review. Reader's Note: I did not attend the vet appointment due to having a prior commitment so my MIL took Komori. Everything I state about the appointment is from her POV. My MIL said Komori was comfortable and well cared for and we were able to get all our questions answered about Komori's health. Overall, it seemed like a great first experience. Why did I take off a star? - Maybe this is just a personal preference but apparently they didn't give Komori any treats. At his old clinic, the Doctors and Vet Tech constantly gave him treats or at the appropriate moments to make him more comfortable. I believe that because this was a first appointment, to ease Komori's anxiety of a new place, new people doing random things to him, some treats should be offered or used to associate a positive memory with going to the vet. - After Komori came home from his vaccinations we noticed the injection site was swollen. We also noticed if we pet him a certain way at the injection site, he would yelp/whimper so it must hurt. This never happened at his old clinic which is a YELLOW FLAG for concern. This review is 36 hours after his appointment and it is still swollen. If this does not go down, we will be returning to check on it. Overall, if we don't come back to check on the injection site, we will be coming back for any follow-up appointments. Waipio Pet Clinic has obviously proven with past Yelp reviews that they are a great clinic, which is why we considered coming here in the first place (besides how close it is to our home). We are grateful for management for communicating with us and correcting the scheduling issue we had previously and look forward to growing a stronger relationship with them moving forward.

Finding a truly cat friendly vet has been such a relief! We adopted a very sick kitten and also have an older cat who struggles with anxiety and respiratory issues. From our very first visit, Dr. Hester and the staff made us feel secure in that we were getting the best care for our cats. They took the time to listen to all of our concerns and provided tailored care for both of our cats. They treated not just our kitten, but our anxious older (big and kind of mean) cat with such kindness and understanding. I heard about Arms of Aloha in passing as others recommended them on various Facebook dog groups that I'm a part of. When my dog was diagnosed with cancer, one thing that popped into my mind was that, if possible, I'd like to let her cross over at home, where she was more comfortable. This thought was even stronger after having visited the vet so many times in the last weeks of her life. I had read up on the literature available on the Arm's of Aloha website (where you can also get an estimate) as well as preregistered. You can also look at their appointments available. They advise on making an appointment at least 1-2 days in advance, especially on the weekends. The hard part is knowing ahead what day that will be. My dog took a turn for the worst one day and I went back and forth on scheduling the only/last appointment available for the next day (appts can be seen/booked online). No one wants to make that call (decision), but it's also painful to watch your beloved friend suffer. They do have a thorough cancellation policy you can read online and I decided I'd book the last appointment to secure it and I could always cancel/reschedule more than 8 hours out. In the confirmation email, there is a link to a video to watch of the Doctor describing the process so you're familiar - I'd recommend this if it is your first time through this. I guess because it was already the next day, they called me shortly after to confirm my appointment. I could barely get the words out the confirm but I never felt judged by the person on the phone. The morning of the appointment, I received an invoice in my email. They suggest taking care of it ahead of time as doing it in the moment with so many emotion is harder. I appreciated this detail and was able to get it out of the way. At our scheduled appointment time, Dr. Naun came to our house. She has a calm and peaceful energy to her. She had some further paperwork for me to sign then we started the process. It was peaceful, and of course sad, but Dr. Naun brought comfort to the situation and we're so grateful for a service like this. We chose to have our dog's ashes returned to us and about a week later, we received a beautiful urn and our paw prints. With the service, they have a chaplain who you may access to talk to if you need help. I did not use it but they do also offer at home palliative care.

A very overdue review for VCA Pearl City!…read more We had a really scary moment with our puppy when I thought he may have eaten a battery. I called VCA Pearl City on our way there, and they told us to bring him in right away and took him back as soon as we arrived. I was honestly such a mess and extremely worried, but everyone was so thoughtful, kind, and reassuring. They took my concerns seriously, moved quickly, and made me feel like my puppy was in the best hands. Thankfully, after being evaluated, we found out that he hadn't actually eaten the battery! It was such a huge relief. I'm so grateful for the care and compassion the VCA Pearl City team showed us during such a stressful moment. They didn't make me feel silly for being worried--instead, they were incredibly understanding and supportive. That meant so much to me. I was never a "cat person." I've always had dogs and actually took quite a bit of pride in being a…read moredog person. But when we adopted our little Autumn girl, she completely melted my heart and turned me into a die-hard cat lover almost instantly. Our family loves Autumn so much. She is an absolute angel -- truly the sweetest cat I've ever met. So you can imagine how terrified we were this past weekend. During a dinner party, she slipped out through our lanai door without anyone noticing. Around 8 PM we heard the loudest cat fight we've ever heard (and we hear a lot, since there are many stray cats on our property). We realized she was missing and ran outside searching, but couldn't find her. Later that night she came home -- but she could barely walk. One of her legs was twitching, she was wincing in pain, and we couldn't even gently touch her back without her crying out. I immediately feared the worst -- that she had fallen from a tree and broken her back. My son stayed up with her all night, but she didn't improve. The next morning, we drove from the North Shore to VCA Family & Oahu Veterinary Specialty Center after being referred by our regular vet (who was closed since it was Sunday). The receptionist was efficient and straightforward, took my information, and told us we could come right in. When we arrived, we were greeted kindly, given paperwork, and within minutes Autumn was taken back for evaluation. After about 30 minutes, we were brought into the exam room to discuss next steps. I'll be honest -- in my emotional, protective state, my first thought when I saw the veterinarian was that she looked young, and I unfairly questioned whether she had enough experience. I feel a bit silly admitting that now, because Dr. Steph Craven was absolutely incredible. She was confident, knowledgeable, calm, and deeply compassionate. She knew exactly what to do and handled both Autumn and my very anxious mama-heart with so much patience and care. I had prepared myself for the worst. I truly thought we might have to say goodbye. Thankfully, after diagnostics, rest, antibiotics, and pain medication, Autumn is going to be okay. Dr. Steph Craven and the entire staff were professional, communicative, and calm under pressure. In one of the most stressful moments for our family, they gave us clarity and hope. I sincerely hope we never face another animal emergency -- but if we do, they are absolutely on speed dial. Thank you so much for taking care of our girl. Aloha, Lynsey (and Autumn)

After our beloved Bella passed, my dad felt a push to just look around the Ho'oppi location. His intention was just to look. He walked to each pavilion. And every single time, this team showed up--with skill, urgency, and unwavering dedication. They didn't just treat him... they gave him more life. Because of them, Joey lived to 15 years and 2 months--time I know I wouldn't have had otherwise. That is something I can never repay. But what truly sets this hospital apart is their compassion. When it came time to say goodbye, they handled his final moments with a level of grace and humanity that I will never forget. There was no rush, no clinical coldness--only quiet compassion. They made space for love, for dignity, and for a peaceful goodbye. In the middle of the hardest moment of my life, they created something that felt gentle... and even beautiful. Joey wasn't just a patient there. He was known, he was loved, and he was fought for.
