We contacted Rock River mainly because it was…read morenearby to get an estimate on tearing down a very large, old, and poorly constructed deck on a house we had recently purchased. Buck Raith, one of the owners, came to our house and talked about what would be done in detail. We talked about materials, style, support, everything we could think of and more. Buck gave us an estimate and references. After looking at some of their work, we were impressed and decided to go with them. Surprisingly, we did not have to make any down payment or deposit. We were told we didn't pay until we were satisfied with the work. Work began on schedule. The deconstruction took longer than expected, which did not surprise me. We were very impressed with the craftsmanship and quality of the workmanship throughout. We changed the railings and were only charged the difference in the cost of the materials. We are extremely satisfied with the result. It was better than we hoped for. The deck is beautiful and is exactly what we wanted, and at the price we agreed to at the beginning. If you need a deck built, or need any other work done on your house, I would say look no further. You can't go wrong. I would be happy to give a personal reference.

Not only was the job subpar, but it also wasn't completed on time. It was supposed to be finished by July 5th but was only declared "completed" on August 1st. Additionally, the painter was under the influence while working. Despite their denials, we found joints and weed in a Fresco can among the trash they left behind. The smell was evident when we walked in, and no one else had been in the house. Major issues include: Multiple walls and ceilings lacked a second coat of paint. Paint splatters were evident on the shower, carpets, trim, window/door frames, vents, light switches, and fixtures. Two patches of paint were found on the cabinet and cabinet doors, which may not be removable. Drywall cracks remained unaddressed, and anchors were painted over instead of being removed. Light fixtures and vents were not removed before painting, leaving us with touch-up work. Spider webs were painted over, now embedded in the walls. Some walls exhibited visible paint runs.

On The Level did the demo and retiling, working with Milestone Plumbing. They are much in demand, so it took a couple of months to get them in, but part of the delay was supply chain problems with the shower pan and a little incompetence from The Tile Shop, and some miscommunication with Milestone. None of this was Chris and DJ's fault, they are honest, skilled, hard workers, and even friendly to cats even when they are interfering with their work. They are clean and considerate, very professional, recommended by other contractors. When they first gave us estimates (time and money) they were very cautious to mention all the things that could go wrong and might result in a less than ideal finish. And yet, they also confidently said, "Oh we're going to make it right, and we're going to make it look good." Well, the actual work, once started, took a little less time than they said, and it doesn't look good, it looks absolutely great. They aren't shy about showing you exactly what they are doing, and yes, they did it right. Not that I know that much about bathroom walls and tile installation, but thanks to the shoddy work done originally by Allen Kitchen and Bath, I do know how to NOT do it right. On the Level are worth every penny, and probably twice as much as they actually charged.
