Love this cute cafe! Great space with a great vibe and decor, lots of seating. Just ordered a matcha latte, I forgot to ask for no sweetener but otherwise it was great. I didn't get to check out the bookstore but I love the concept.

What a beautiful bookstore! The atmosphere is so calming, beautiful and relaxing and it's in such a great location on Milwaukee. It gave me 'shop around the corner' vibes and felt very welcoming and had a great sense of community. We grabbed some coffees, perused some books, and were able to grab a board game to play while we sat in their little seating area enjoying our coffees. The inventory is smaller but it's hard not to find something that would interest you. They have story times on Tuesdays and Saturdays for the little ones which was so cute.

Came across this coffee shop and it is so cute and unique!! It is both a book store and a coffee shop. There is a variety of seating and seemed like a great place to do work since it was quiet. Lots of cute decor that fit the aesthetic. They also have board games which is fun. And the coffee was SO good. I got a hazelnut mocha (can't remember what the actual name of the drink was) and it was delicious. 10/10!!

I love Volumes! Every time I stop in, I always find a new book to add to my TBR. I trust the staff's recommendations. I have come here numerous times to find a gift for a friend or family member, and have always been successful in my mission after my visit to Volumes. The staff is so helpful, too! I love supporting a local, indie bookstore! In addition to that wonderful perk, Volumes also offers a ton of classes and events. They definitely foster community here. read more

Cute bookstore with a coffee shop in wicker park. The shop has tables set up making it quite and easy place to work and get stuff done. I had the shades of oak and honey latte and it was delicious! There is a kids area with kids books and an area for them to sit as well. read more

Popped in while I was in wicker park a few weeks ago. Was ultimately super underwhelmed with the selection. I feel like they were severely lacking on anything besides the current hot fic lit. And that's just not what I'm after. Gave it several tries but this last visit is going to be my last. It's a shame because the space is cute and has some reading spaces but just little to no good fantasy/sci fi titles beyond the standard like five books per genre. Hard to justify the trek when other stores fit my needs better. read more

A cozy bookstore with a little cafe! The cafe is pretty limited but there's nice seating to work or read and a good selection of books. They have both new and used books and the used books are really a bargain! I would definitely recommend stopping in. read more

If you're in Chicago, please visit Wicker Park for tacos at Antique taco, books and coffee at Volumes and records and CDs at Reckless Records. This area of town is cute and trendy with a variety of shops and eateries. We landed at Volumes Bookcafe to kill some time before our train. They offer a wide selection of books, a place to sit and read or work and a full coffee bar. The staff were helpful and very friendly. They also sell used books. I picked up two fiction titles for 8 bucks each! The vibe is relaxing and inviting. read more

Cute vibes. Stopped in one rainy day to find a specific book but they were actually very small inventory for a bookstore. What I did enjoy tho were the cafe and chill book reading vibes. They have chairs for you to sit and read in which was a nice activity on a rainy day. Will be back for the vibes but will either bring my own book or call ahead to see if they have the one I want in store next time. If you're looking to browse a bookstore, I wouldn't recommend this place for that specifically as they don't have many books on display. read more

While it isn't fully open yet, I greatly enjoyed my time at this bookstore. Ever since Borders went out of business I've been missing a bookstore where you would actually feel welcome to read some of the books for sale, and this place really filled that niche well. Their cafe wasn't ready for operation when I visited with my family, but the staff were kind, knowledgeable, and interested and the book selection was thoughtful and well done. I look forward to a repeat visit once things are fully in swing. read more

I love this bookstore! I was able to find some like-new used books in perfect condition for half the price. There are lots of cute magnets, totes, puzzles, etc. and lots of space for reading. It's cozy and filled with a great selection. Highly recommended. read more

Reopening in our new space Fall 2022 Volumes Bookcafe is Wicker Park's neighborhood independent bookstore cafe now at 1373 N Milwaukee Ave. We aim to create a warm and inviting community space for book lovers of all ages. Volumes is a family owned business, brought to life by two Chicago area sisters. Rebecca and Kimberly have always had careers that were intertwined with books. While Kimberly was spending her career in early childhood, introducing youngsters to the power of reading, Rebecca was spending her career in secondary and higher education, trying desperately to keep students reading. While academia has its perks, both sisters longed for a different career that could still bring their passion for learning and reading into the community at large.

I also like the handwritten summaries and recommendations for standout books. They are not going to have everything because they're in a small space but I was able to find both a popular book that was on my wishlist and also a book I'd never heard of before that piqued my interest, so I purchased both. I also love that they're open every day of the week, which makes it easy to pop by!

All the areas are labeled and it's visually pleasing. The staff was nice, too. Checkout was easy and they were friendly. Prices are standard of paperbacks and hardcovers. You are paying for an indie bookseller (I paid about $40 for two books, which includes tax). I wasn't at all disappointed with the price. They also have a loyalty program for those that are regulars. I really am happy I checked out this spot. It was beautiful and friendly. There was a lot of books and totes to chose from, it was hard not to leave with more in my bag!

They also have a really spacious separate room available for events. Seating is pretty limited, but it looked like most folks were picking up pastries to go, but either way you order at the front one party at a time. Truffle Croissant (5/5): A must get, super intense black truffle against a perfectly flaky and chewy buttery croissant. The large bits of pearl sugar add pops of sweetness that I loved. Mango Tart (4.75/5): Mango really shines through with melt in your mouth texture and fruity sweetness. Coconut pasty cream adds almost a nutty flavor and luscious mouthfeel to contrast against the lightly crunchy cookie crust. Prosciutto Croissant (4.5/5): Pastry again impeccable with sharp saltiness from the prosciutto and cheese. Still absolutely delicious, but hard to recommend with how good the other items were. Longanisa Breakfast Sandwich (5/5): Another life changing bite. Hash brown add on is unbelievably crunchy against the egg bite that is pillowy soft and fluffy roll. Longanisa is salty and sweet, just the best way to start your morning. Lumpia (3.75/5): Comes out piping hot and the meat still stays juicy and bouncy. Good, not crazy. Filipino Breakfast with Longanisa and Tocino (4/5): Garlic rice is fluffy, but heavy on the garlic exactly like I love it. Sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked and the two meats were actually the weakest components, a bit chewier than expected. Chicken Adobo (4.25/5): Chicken has almost a nice char on the outside and doused in a tangy sauce with crispy garlic bits. Tender and juicy, personally preferred this over the longanisa and tocino. (Also, keep in mind that mornings are walk-in only, you can't order the breakfast sandwich online like you can with the pastries, and reservations are strictly for their dinner service.) Stepping inside is a welcome relief from the sun. The interior is modern and light-filled, featuring a gorgeous pastry display at the central ordering counter. The space is tight, loud, and bustling. Which makes sense given the sheer volume of people they serve, so you'll have to try and snag one of the few seats along the edges. Once we finally ordered, the service was incredibly fast. The sandwich came out in less than 5 minutes! It was definitely a good, tasty sandwich, but I wouldn't say it was amazing. Ultimately, while I enjoyed the food and the beautiful space inside, I probably wouldn't wait 45 minutes in the blazing sun to get it again.

The crust was thin and crispy, with a large air cavity, making it very soft and fluffy. The salted egg yolk has just the right balance of sweetness and saltiness, and wasn't too cloying. Garlic Cheese Brioche Bun蒜香奶酪麵包: Perhaps its more Taiwanese name is "八蒜包" (Eight Garlic Bun). Its appearance and taste were very similar to those I've had at Taiwanese bakeries in mainland China. The cheese and garlic flavors were very strong, but the bread itself was slightly coarse. Hojicha Latte: The whole milk was very milky, but the hojicha flavor felt a little weak. However, it's already great to find a tea latte that's not very sweet.

I swung by Volumes Bookcafe last weekend and had a downright stellar experience. This joint is legit one of my favorite low-key spots in town--super cozy, family-run vibe. I ordered a cortado and one of their avocado toast specials (I added an egg on top, because, why not?), then stuck around browsing their small but thoughtfully curated book selection. Total spend was around $18, which felt like a steal for espresso, food, and atmosphere. The staff is friendly and chill, never rushing you, which makes it feel more like visiting your cool neighbor's living room than a café. I absolutely love Volumes, which I've made my regular bookstore. The staff are all friendly and helpful, and the place is warm and cozy. They're usually stocked with the books I'm looking for, and there are also some notes about staff faves and reccs. The cafe also has a solid selection of drinks, and the seating is great for reading or getting some work done. I've also gone to some of their book clubs which really added to my reading experience.
