Who doesn't like Von Mar? It's so traditional and is so nostalgic. The live piano playing is an added treat. It just takes me down memory lane.... Christmas time is the best time to visit. I really enjoy that you can buy a gift and have it gift wrapped for free. You may pay more for your item at this store, but the service and amenities are above a box store for sure! We also enjoy that they have all your top brand clothing, shoes, and handbags. Plus much more. Don't forget the sale room that is full of shoes. They are very discounted. I like to support a store that knows how to treat its customers and is very personable in assisting. This is a huge department store that seemingly goes on forever. The different departments aren't chopped up with interior walls as much allowing you to easily find your way around to the sections you desire. I love the two chairs and a desk on either side of the mall entrance. Very classy! All of the men's section is located on the ground floor and the second floor is pretty much all women's stuff. So counting the majority of the ground floor already appealing to the women, I bet they love this store with its vast amount of inventory. I found what I was looking for right away. There is a men's restroom by the elevator on the ground floor, but no signage alerting you to this fact. The women's restroom is on the second floor in the same general area, along with a very spacious customer service department. read more

I love Von Maur!! No crazy sales but the do have sales racks in all departments and they mark stuff down two, three and even four times!! You can find some real bargains!! If they don't have your size they will search for and ship it from any of their other stores for FREE! Their credit card has NO INTEREST, they gift wrap for FREE and ship for FREE to 48 states!! It does not get much better than that!! Yeah the live piano music is cheesy albeit relaxing it's a Von Maur tradition. I love to shop in the Fall and Winter when they have the gas fireplaces on in several departments! Very cozy! read more

Now that I'm retired, I don't wear as much high end clothing as I did. So, I mainly shop here when my wife is looking for something. I like the direction the stores are taking with emphasis on customer service. My wife was greeted and ended up making a purchase in record time. I also like the atmosphere in the store. During the holidays, the pianist was playing holiday music near the escalator, surrounded by a Christmas tree and lots of decorations. It seemed more festive than the other stores. Sure, the pricing is higher than most of the other mall stores, but that is pretty well known by the shoppers who are looking for that something special. I can tell as a long time customer or Von Maur and someone who used to be an employee there (loved it when I worked there, so I'm not disgruntled) that things have gone down hill at the Greenwood, Indiana location. I can tell that morale is VERY low in the store with the employees and its store managements fault. From what I've heard (from all the employees I've talked to) the company and upper management keeps taking the things away that makes Von Maur such a great place to work, expecting more and giving little to nothing in return. There is no flexibility with employee requests and everyone is overworked and under payed for the work they are doing. Some examples include management telling employees that they can't discuss their opinions on changing policy and wages, blaming employees on the low morale, and enacting policies that go against what Von Maur has always been to its employees. Some examples include: staying 15+ minutes after closing registers regardless of what they've been able to get done earlier in the evening, and not guaranteeing at least ONE 10-15 minute break (something that is illegal in some states especially for retail workers). This is outrageously poor management and someone needed to speak out about it. read more

I love shopping at Von Maur. They have quality clothes. I love the round clothes racks because these have their marked down items. You can get some great deals here, especially on the 3th mark down! I also enjoy stopping by their shoe closet which also has their marked downs. read more

The service at Nordstrom and Sax Fifth Avenue is on a completely different level and since Von Maur apparently aspires to be of that echelon, they better step up their game and stop hiring high school kids with little or no retail experience. read more

My husband bought me a very expensive handbag from this store for Christmas. Unfortunately, it is not my style and they won't allow returns or even exchanges. Always thought of this store as a little stuck up - but now I know what draws people in. The customer service! I was looking at a hat for a derby party and found one but wasn't sure if I really wanted it. I have shopped at this store for over 4 years now and it is one of my favorite stores. I love the sales racks, you can really find some good deals. There are some great staff members that work there that know who I am and always ask how I'm doing, Sue she is my favorite and every staff member should try to be like her. I have had some issues with the younger kids that work in the store, in the shoe department that do not deliver the amount of service that you should receive at the store. Anytime I have a issue which has been twice in the past 4 years I have spoke with the store manager Erica Mason and she has taken great care of me and has made sure to handle the situation and has done so.
