A tiny little pocket park, that had to go RIGHT THERE, because of a famous piece of heavy metal. (see pics) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1872_California-Nevada_State_Boundary_Marker "The 1872 California-Nevada Boundary Marker is a hollow, cast iron pylon 8 feet tall. Six feet of the marker appears above ground. The marker is encased in a cage made of chain-link storm fence. The word CALIFORNIA, cast in raised letters, in on the west face of the marker and NEVADA is on the east face. The south face contains 1872, LONGITUDE 120° WEST OF GREENWICH, A. W. VON SCHMIDT, U.S.; while the north face presents 170 MILES 47 CHAINS TO OREGON. " 47 Chains, baby!

Opened in 2013, the Verdi Upstream section follows the Truckee Meadows Power Authority (TMPA) utility road approximately three miles from the gravel parking area at the south end of Quilici Ranch Road to Fleish Dam and Bridge. We walked parallel to the California state line, Truckee River, Interstate 80, and the Union Pacific Railroad. Along the way, the whistle of a freight train heading west and an Amtrak train heading east punctuated the background sounds of the rumbling interstate and roaring river. The wide and graded service road passed the Fleish Power Station, side-stepped into California, and wandered beside the Truckee River Flume and Steamboat Ditch. The power station, built in 1904 to supply electricity to Virginia City and its mines, runs on river water diverted upstream and carried to its turbines in the timbered flume. The climax of the hike came at the end, with a crossing of the Fleish Bridge. The 200-foot long pedestrian span suspends above the spillway of the Fleish Dam, which impounds the Truckee River for diversion into the Steamboat Ditch and Truckee River Flume. Our footsteps on the narrow wooden deck created out-of-sync waves, that generated an electrifying finale to our thrilling hike.

We stopped here to see if we could get any fishing action. The pathway was short but a nice stop…read more Beautiful and clean. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any bites but it was relaxing!

This is a park with walking and biking trails wih ample access to the truckee river. Typically quiet and has enough room to not have to crowd any particular arrea. This is also a quality place to see spring blooms and fall color changes in the area. There is a small parking lot that is pretty safe since there is really no other reason to be in this area unless you are using the park. As far as naming of this park, I believe it was named after Dr. Massoud Dorostkar, an anesthesiologist in Reno who donated the tract of land for use as a park. What I dont know is how to properly prononuce the Persian surname Dorostkar. is it DO-roast-car or duh-RAWST-kahr? Either way this is a great scenic hike and picture worthy site that is a short bike ride from downtown.

There aren't very many other things which would resemble a park. There are a few picnic tables under some mature trees. There is a paved path which connects to Mayberry Park. There is not a playground at this park. There aren't any basketball courts or tennis courts. There are no bathrooms at this park. The park was clean and there is a parking lot to park in. Have fun out there. -Dadzone
