We spent three years at Otay Ranch Academy for the Arts, and the warning signs were there from year…read moreone. During our first year, a teacher walked my daughter to the car to report she had pushed another child off the bleachers. When I asked my daughter what happened, she explained she acted first because the other child was about to push her off. The teacher's expectation that a child in that moment should call a "time out" and run and tell him instead of defending herself showed a fundamental lack of common sense. The principal repeatedly failed to protect my daughter from serious harassment. When two older boys bullied her, the administration did nothing despite multiple reports until the situation became physical on the playground and I was forced to send the police to intervene--an inaction that violated the state's anti-bullying mandates and demonstrated deliberate indifference. My daughter was not the only victim of these students, yet the school protected the aggressors instead of the victims. The final straw was the Title IX violation involving the girls' bathroom. The school's policy allowed a biological male student to use the girls' restroom, compromising my daughter's privacy and safety. When my daughter simply asked what he was doing there--a completely reasonable question--she was removed from class and dragged into the vice principal's office. Rather than correcting the policy to protect female students, the principal chose to shield staff and the school's legal liability, and the retaliation only intensified after I filed complaints. The school offered a bathroom some distance away as an "accommodation," which was completely impractical being located too far from her classroom. We ultimately filed a federal Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights (case #09253077) due to the school's deliberate indifference. Beyond these safety failures, the school suffers from poor leadership and resource management. Despite a large park directly behind the school, our children were confined to an asphalt playground nearly all year and were allowed to touch the grass exactly once--on the second to last day of school. The neighboring school uses that park regularly. Even the sixth-grade graduation was held outside on the asphalt instead of in the building's auditorium. This is the same school that was featured on Fox 5 San Diego for placing children in tents during extreme heat because of space mismanagement. The only reason this school remains open is a handful of truly excellent, caring teachers. But good educators cannot compensate for an administration that endangers children's safety, retaliates against families who advocate for their kids, and prioritizes liability over student welfare. We have pulled our children out of ORAA, and I strongly caution other parents to look elsewhere until there is a complete overhaul of leadership.

They have alot of autistic kids and cant take care of them, they are always too loud and i cant focus , the lunch made 4 girls throw up, also when my class was taking picture for the year book, the people that were taking the pictures were touching the kids inappropriately and they used the same comb for each kids. I was referred by a friend, and this place has been fantastic for my child…read more All praise aside, it's the numeric improvement that speaks for itself. My son last year struggled, with COVID and the lack of effective teachers, he fell behind big time. Over the course of the entire year his lexile score only improved by 75 points, WITH alleged extra tutoring from the school. If you aren't familiar with lexile scores, a 75 pt improvement over the course of the year means he left farther behind than when he started. I was told about Kumon. I enrolled him when I found out how far behind he was, the school literally did not communicate all year these scores. We started a few weeks into summer. After 4 weeks of Kumon tutoring, he was reassessed at the start of the school year and saw a 50 point improvement. He basically gained in 4 weeks at Kumon what the school had done all year. The woman who runs Kumon is super nice, and direct which I appreciate. If we're on vacation she is really nice about a make up day...That is a testament to her putting the kids first. Most places nowadays refuse make-up classes. But she genuinely does not want your child to miss out on any learning. I have nothing but great things to say about the tutoring and facility here. They have really helped my son improve, he is now actively participating in class (which he refused to do before), he has built more confidence, etc... It has been so much more than just a tutoring lesson for him. Thank you!!!!

Extremely effective method in addition to traditional learning methods at school. I wish my…read morechildren would've started sooner. My son started at 4.5 yrs old and daughter started at 5.5 yrs old. Currently, my son is in kindergarten and is reading beyond the 2nd grade level. Even though he still needs time to build comprehension through more reading, he can spell and read way beyond his level. In math, he is trying to master his multiplication, while his school classmates are still trying to learn simple addition and subtraction. My children are in no way struggling with school, kumon just made their school work so much easier for them. This allowed them to focus on the more challenging areas in each subject at school. After setting them up in a routine of doing kumon workseets 15 minutes a day, it's amazing how much easier it is for them to learn. They are not born smart, they are conditioned to learn at a different level. This is not a place where you can put your parent responsibility on others. This is a place to help you as parents develop a learning strategy and organize your effort by enforcing the routine religiously. We saw results after 6 months, now they are excelling at a phenomenal pace. Small investment when it comes to your child's future. Don't wait until they struggle, proactively condition them to learn, so you don't have to worry about them struggling.

We feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a warm, welcoming, and enriching school community…read more From the very beginning, our family has felt supported not just academically, but personally as well. The teachers and staff truly go above and beyond to create an environment where each child feels seen, valued, and encouraged to grow. We currently have three children at the school, and each of them has had such a positive and unique experience. The balance between strong academics and character development is something we deeply appreciate. It's clear that the school is focused on nurturing the whole child, building confidence, kindness, and a genuine love for learning. One of the highlights for our family has been the musical program. Our daughters have been involved in the school musical, and it has been such a meaningful experience for them. Not only have they grown in confidence and creativity, but they've also formed friendships across different grade levels, which has been so special to see. The sense of community that comes from these programs is truly something unique. We couldn't be happier with our experience and feel lucky every day to be part of this amazing school. It's a place where children are encouraged to thrive, friendships flourish, and families feel genuinely connected.

I have only GREAT things to say about Mt. Helix Academy!!…read more My little 3rd grader has THRIVED at this school. Known to be very shy and often wouldn't participate in class, we were desperate. There wasn't ever any trouble, just no willingness to be part of school functions, class projects, and we were about to succumb to the idea that was just the way it was. No joy for school or even extra-curricular activities. Well... these teachers did amazing things!! My child is like a whole new kid. The small class sizes helped them focus on my child's needs, and the care the teachers showed made such a difference. Now my child loves school, can't wait to "try" math (it can still be hard) and is in the school play! I would have never thought this could happen. I was just looking for a place where a child could feel welcome and loved, and, oh yeah - learn. I am so very thankful that we took a chance on Mt. Helix Academy. I can't recommend them enough!

We booked the larger party option for 16-35 kids and when the date was approaching and we thought we may end up with a few more than expected, they were flexible and communicative about our options. Come game time, it turned out we didn't exceed the limit so the team remained flexible and delivered the original plan with ease. Set up and break down was insanely fast. They kept the birthday girl completely engaged and loving every minute of the program. They made her feel like the star of the show while keeping her guests engaged as well. When some kids got a little squirrely, they were gracious and patient and kept the program rolling. We throughly enjoyed the fun, different element that Zovargo brought to our party. We highly recommend!
