It took me awhile to figure out what brands and items would work for my outdoor adventure needs. I was on a mission to buy a few things. For one, I desperately needed a backpack that could house more than just water. I already have a Camelback, but needed something bigger. I looked around a bit as they have quite a selection of backbacks. Finally, I decided on an Osprey that also had a lining that was compatible with a Camelback water reservoir. OK, that mission is now complete. Next, I needed a Swiss Army-like tool. They have many many different types of Swiss Army knives, and also a few Leatherman tools. In addition, they also carry Gerber tools. A friend told me about this brand and he liked the way it worked, so I decided to have a look at these. Unfortunately, the salesman knew nothing about Gerber tools, so I was sort of on my own in the decision-making here. I settled on the Gerber Crucial Multi-Tool, which has a wire cutter, pliers, beer opener (extremely important), flathead and Phillips screwdriver, and liner lock knife. It also have a belt clip, so easy to just hook on. I also like the green colour of the tool and it is very lightweight. Pretty good tool, but I wish it had some scissors. Overall, this store was great for all my outdoor needs. You can pretty much get anything here before heading into the jungles of Africa (just kidding). The only weird thing was when I went to pay and used my credit card, they asked to see my passport and also wrote down my passport info. A bit odd, I think Holland needs to get up to speed with the credit/debit system in general, but otherwise a great store.

Twee verkoopmedewerkers adviseerden me echter wanten van €65 euro, met binnenin tóch handschoenen. Binnen drie uur was ik terug in de winkel omdat de wanten niet deden wat de verkopers beloofden. Toen probeerde de verkoper mij een volgende upgrade naar weer een andere prijsklasse. Daar ben ik niet op ingegaan. In plaats van geld terug wilde de verkoper alleen een tegoedbon geven. Ik baal hier enorm van, voel me misleid en heb nu een 'voucher' waar ik niks mee kan; kortom €65 kwijt en nooit meer terug naar de winkel. Ik had er anders in de toekomst nog wel eens een jas gekocht. Volgende keer weer online bestellen voor betere voorwaarden.

The only problem was that afterwards one of the straps contained an additional feature: a used chewing gum (thank you a******). It was well-incorporated and made the ice spray useless. So I went to the North Face store hoping that I could buy a spare pair of straps. I've been here before and I like the friendly, relaxed staff. I explained the situation to the girl at the counter and she went to check their stock of spare parts. She quickly found a set and handed it to me. When I asked for the price she said it was for free. In the case of The North Face I now know that the price contains a fair warranty (I didn't have to show the sales receipt).

The staff will spend the time required to find you the right items, and the prices are reasonable considering the fact that this is a foreign brand with all product made outside the EU. If you need a piece of clothing for your trip or on short notice, look no further. Backpackers in particular would love this place.

However, since it's their flagship store I honestly thought that the prices would be great. For the ever popular Kanken backpack expect to pay 89,50€ when the same model is only $80 at Nordstrom in America. If you're looking to save money, this is not the place for you. Besides, the VAT is so low that you may not even qualify unless you bought several other items. Once that's all said and done, the brand is known for their durability for outdoor gear and apparel. So if you love camping or anything remotely athletic then I would highly recommend coming here. It may not be the cheapest, but you're definitely paying for quality.

From their origins in the Netherlands, now outsourcing to China, Portugal, etc. I've ordered pants, shirts, jackets hats, and all are inconsistent on fit and quality. Shirts are expensive, the one I just bought $160, two others at $125, pants starting at $145 and it goes up. I won't be ordering any longer since I can buy other outdoor brands that are half or three quarters of the price. I'm upset that I let myself get caught up on their name, but they are no longer the same as they use too be. Don't buy there are other alternatives for better prices such as Woolrich, Patagonia and filson being the higher priced, just as great if not better.

Location is pretty central in the city on Ceintuurbaan. They carry most major brands of rollerblades, ice skates, and hockey gear (skates, sticks, protective gear). You could probably get full gear top to bottom from this store alone. The prices are slightly higher than what you would find in North America, but when pickings are slim, you can't really complain. Skate rentals are actually pretty decently priced, especially if you're going to do FNS. I think it works out to about 10-12 euro. HOWEVER, when you are renting, they require a CASH deposit (I forget whether its 50 or 100 euro) which is promptly returned to you upon return of the skates. I didn't know this and had to run out to the ATM down the street to get cash. The rentals even come in a nice carry bag that you can wear as a backpack -- totally convenient for your bike ride home :) I believe you can also get speed skates (wheeled and ice) here as well.

There always seem to be a lot of shoppers so it's a busy environment probably owing to the fact it's located on Kalverstraat, a main shopping street. This type of store always has some kind of sale going on to pull more people in to turn their merchandise seeing as we're switching from winter to summer. If you're looking for hiking boots, tennis shoes, running shoes, ski boots and all the clothes that go along with these sports you'll find them here.
