The barber shop is well located in east elmhurst, very clean. they do take walk ins, The hair cut was just ok, nothing out of the ordinary that you could get at other barber shops. I usually pay 20 to 25 on a fade with lines at other locations plus the tip, and this other locations be using like warm towels, and other items. So to me a fade for 40 bucks and nothing done different is crazy. I will only use them on emergency basics. Is not the price is what comes with it. Just my opinion read more

I can't thank these guys enough! Lemme 'splain... I'd made an appointment at the Jakari J. Salon a couple of doors down to get a Big Chop. For those who don't know, a BC is when ya chop off damn near all ya hair. There are reasons. It's often done when a sister wants to give up relaxers and let her hair grow out in all of its curly, coily glory. I did a big chop for that reason back in 2012. A few years after that, I said that when I turned 50, I was gonna BC again. This time, to chop off the dyed hair and embrace my gray. So, I get to Jakari's, presented a photo of Roxanne Hancock's short natural and was told that if I wanted my hair that short, I'd have to to go a barber. Erm, okay. Said I'd try the place down the block which happens to be *drumroll, please* VS Exclusive. With the 'rona goin' on and everything, I expected to be shown the door since I didn't have an appointment. One guy directed me to another guy who listened to my story and told me to have a seat and someone would be with me in about 15 minutes. About 10 minutes later (if that long), a dude comes over and asks me what I wanted. Dude's name is "Alvin like the chipmunk." I told him I wanted to big chop and shared my Roxanne Hancock pics. He asked, "are you sure?", LOL. Yes, quite sure. After my first big chop, I thought I'd be doing twist outs and braid outs and other styles with my hair when it grew back. All I did was put it in buns or throw it back in the Puff Cuff. So, Alvin tells me to have a seat in his chair and proceeds to cut. He asked me how I wanted the back, the sides, precisely how short I wanted it here and there... If there's anyone who wants to make sure the customer is happy, it's Mr. Alvin, y'all! A few short minutes later, he was done and I was giddy. Something about cutting all my hair off is so liberating. I'm so used to paying $80 and up for haircuts at salons. When all was said and done...twenty bucks. What!!??? I think I'ma keep my hair short and start going to barber shops!! Not a couple of hours and a hundred-plus dollars but 10-20 minutes and twenty bucks and I'm out!!?? Oooh, chile, I could get used to this!! I SHOULD GIVE THEM ZERO STARS FOR POOR SERVICE! I'm going to be fair. The first time I saw this barbershop, I was in the neighborhood passing by at night. The storefront is actually attractive with its beautiful blue light / black sign. It did caught my eye. So, I decided to try a haircut there, the next time I was going to be in that neighborhood. Terrible decision. The day that I went, the first thing that positively impressed me was the sets of VIP stanchions outside of the store, you know, like the ones they use in a lot of nightclubs at the entrance. That gives you the impression that you are actually in an exclusive place. Once inside, the good vibe continued when I saw flat screens on the walls, some really big ones, others, not so much. The decor was classy: mostly white and black. White floor, black ceiling, white walls, black chairs, black and white photos, etc. On the screens was some sci - fi movie. I don't know which one, but it was kind of interesting. The audio was some kind of surround sound system, I believe. And THAT'S the very reason why I should give them zero starts for poor service, and not recommend them to anyone. I'm going to explain: When my turn to get my haircut finally arrived, they guy who was supposed to take care of me, asked me how I wanted my haircut?. I told him that I wanted a low fade, and then he asked me how I wanted it on the top. I told him to reduce enough so that I could comb it. He didn't seem to hear me, so I repeated again. The guy didn't react. He was distracted watching the movie that was playing on the screens! I tapped his shoulder, he turned around, I repeated what I wanted and now, he seem to acknowledge me. The guys starts spraying water on my hair, but since he was distracted watching the movie, he didn't realize that he accidentaly sprayed water on my face. No big deal. I didn't say nothing. The guy starts using the hair clipper -or trimmer, I don't know the name of that tool- and after a moment, pauses to continue watching the movie!... then back to my haircut, and back to the movie again. At some point, I must have made some gesture of irritation that he noticed, because he asked me "What?". I told him: -"I would appreciate if you focus more on my haricut and less on the movie, man!". And from there, all fell apart. The guy argued that he was doing his job, that he hadn't made any mistake with my haircut, and that I shouldn't be complaining. I told him that his being distracted by the movie was very unprofessional. He told me that the job was being done, and he knew what he was doing. "Are you going to tell me how to do my job?", he said. We continued arguing for a little while, going back and forth. Long story short, I told him -"Today is the first time I come here, but it could be the last. I'm the customer, A PAYING CUSTOMER! Do you really want to continue arguing with me?" The guy is an arrogant asshole. He thought that he was making a favor to me...WTF? I was willing to forgive him, had he acknowledged that he was wrong and apologized to me, but he didn't. He asked me what I wanted to do?, and I just said -"I'm leaving. Enjoy your movie", and left. Of course, I will never come back to that place. And of course, I will NEVER recommend them to anyone. That behavior is so unprofessional. Don't waste your time going there. read more

always difficult to give your regular barbershop a review less than 5 stars since you don't want to piss off your barber. so 5 stars all around for Vs. My boy James works there and cuts my hair. he also massages my face and slaps me around. But its all out of love i think. He's a good barber obviously and makes me look less ugly. Victor Suarez (Vs, how vain of him) owns the shop and is i think he's my friend also. at least i hope so. so if you're doing a walk-in, James first (he needs the money) then Victor (he owns the shop so he's rich). read more

Well this is the kind of shop you come into and the barbers are sitting around not cutting and you ask for a cut and they tell you they have an appointment coming. So you sit around for 20/30 minutes. No appointment comes. When you could have been about done with your cut. In short they don't want your money if you're not a regular. read more

TERRIBLE barber cut my hair. His clippers were cheap as hell and he didn't use any clipper oil before cutting my hair. It was pulling and tugging my hair every minute. He had the nerve to tell me to not let my hair grow out because it was harder for him. My hair was maybe 4 inches on the top and 1 on the side. Decent clippers would not have a problem cutting through the hair. To top it all off, he charged me $30 plus tips. TERRIBLE SERVICE. He cut my hair down to a half on the sides when I asked for a 2. This place was beyond my expectations. I gave up on barber shops 2-3 years ago beacuse of how disappointed i have been after trying 9 different barber shops. I live in a prominently asian area around bay ridge, Brooklyn. Barber shops there are used to stright asian hair, you can try telling them what u want, or to do what they think the best or even explain in details and pics what u want it would still come out like shit. The hair cut would take 5-10 mins and all they care about is the their money at the end so basically i started cutting my own hair. Long story shot i was at school ( vaughn college) with messy hair so i decided to give this shop a try since its really close to my school. $17 for cut & wash which is really good. The hair cut took almost an hour and felt like the guy been knowing how to cut my hair for years, he was so detailed and he took his time to get everything perfect. Exactly what i was looking for. I was so happy with the hair cut i gave the guy $13 Tip, which i wouldn't do every time but i was just really happy with my hair cut. They just got themselves a new customer read more
