Terrible business…read more They had my son's body because the New Hampshire coroner placed him there, after my son's unexpected death. We would have had Rickers cremate the body, but they were asking in excess of $3000 to take care of the body. They refused to compromise or talk with us. We tried to meet with the director and he blew us off. It felt insulting. My son's body sat in Rickers refrigerator until we arranged for a different funeral home to perform the cremation. The other funeral home charged a little over $1000. I have never gotten over this bad experience with Rickers. It breaks my heart to think of this.

Like the Middle Bridge in Woodstock, the Lincoln Bridge crosses over the Ottauquechee River (but a little ways down the road). This bridge is one of the only known examples of a "wooden Pratt truss bridge" in the United States. If you are a bridge and/or history aficionado, this might have meaning for you because the Lincoln bridge has the only known surviving use of the Pratt truss in wood, and this form is seen much more widely in metal bridges that were built later.

Pleasant friendly staff. Picnic tables to bring your own food. Would love to go back next time we're in VT. Very reasonably priced Adoption program if looking for a gift. Nice souvenir shop. It is wonderful to see. It is worth the money to come visit! Kids love it and adults do too. Besides the beautiful rescue stories and gorgeous creatures living here, the nature walk and look out tower is another fun experience! There is a netted trampoline that is many feet up towards the back of the nature walk. It gives kids cool views of down below and is fun to prance on top of! The look out tower walk up is a great work out for the adults and the promising view up top is worth it. The gift store has some lovely treasures as well. I hope we can visit again soon!

The Gorham Covered Bridge carries Gorham Bridge Road across Otter Creek in a rural area of…read morePittsford and Proctor, Vermont. It is a single span, 114-foot long Town lattice truss that is supported by concrete-faced stone abutments. Under the 18 foot broad road deck, laminated beams have been added to strengthen the bridge. One of Vermont's oldest remaining covered bridges, the bridge dates to 1841. Together with Nicholas M. Powers, who was at the time Owen's apprentice, Abraham Owen constructed it. One of the most well-known bridge builders of the 19th century, Vermont native Powers is recognized with building a significant number of covered bridges. It was one of three still standing Vermont bridges that were known to have been constructed by Powers at the time this bridge was added to the National Register in 1974. Because the bridge has a clearance and a weight limit posted, both of which my van is well under, I opted to cross and did so with no issues. It is a lovely bridge and worth visiting! Vermonters should stop by their local public library and pick up the Vermont State Historic Sites pass for free admission!
