Update on April 1; Received a followup call from Tech Support at 4:30pm, who was able to answer and address all my (3) issues. Additionally, a replacement router was scheduled for the next day. On April 2 at 10:20am, service tech arrived with a pre-programmed new router. Replaced old with the new router and all tests passed. I switched from Dish to V-Tel recently, and although I've had a few issues with getting the recordings app to work correctly, all else is fine. I have been on the phone with tech support trying to explain the issue, and a technician came out here today, less than 24 hours after we all thought we knew the answer to the problem. It persisted and we are now trying another solution that hopefully works. Throughtout the last couple of days, I have received immediate, professional, and courteous genuine heartfelt service. If there were 10 stars they wouldn't be enough. Because we live close to their main office, I was able to exchange cable boxes and did not need a tech to come out and install. Rob was totally understanding, sympathetic to my dilema, and very helpful bring the replacement boxes on line, with the promise that if this is not the solution, thay will stay with it until they do. They even added another box to implement a better mesh signal, at no cost to me. AND, today, when I went to pick up a different replacement box, they gave me a bottle of Vermont Maple syrup for my troubles. These people are a cerdit to the cable industry, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Although someone may read this as a big problem and hassle, tust me, it is not. I'm a VTel gigabit to the home customer, and I am pretty pleased with the service. I get about 800mbps on average using the router they supplied to me free with the service, but if I take the router out of the line and connect directly from the wall jack to my PC, I get 900-980mbps speeds, so that's fair enough. I do wish they provided better routers that didn't bottleneck the speed, but it was FREE, so I can't complain too much. I advise anyone who does get the Actiontec fiber router to just factory reset it as soon as you get it home, VTel's setup on them is not well-implemented, and if you factory reset it, you can then access the administrative features such as the firewall and changing your administrative username and password - things everyone should be doing. I am also a beta tester for VTel's new LTE-based cellular phone service, and so far, it has been terrible/unusable. I live in downtown Springfield where VTel is based, but I rarely get a usable signal in any way. I have taken the phone on various shopping trips around the area and it just isn't usable, the calls get dropped. Getting their LTE signal is like catching the wind. Texting does not work at all. I think they've made some poor choices on how to go about offering cellular/wireless services in the area, the technology they are using doesn't work in an area where neighborhoods are surrounded by 50 foot stone cliffs and you might have several 30 foot boulders you have to get through to get the service to a customer. It's not that VTel is inept, it's that our area is geographically difficult and they overreached what's actually *possible* - other services like satellite radio services have never worked here either. Until they invest in scaling up their macrocell/small cell network in a fully-implemented WAN configuration that considers the difficult terrain of Springfield, and Vermont in general, they will struggle to provide the wireless services they are selling in our community. I feel like VTel just needs to step back and regroup and really read some studies and do some research before implementing. It feels like they have a dev team that works off a rushed trial and error methodology, and they waste a lot of time and money implementing strategies that are doomed to fail due to a lack of R&D. If they just stopped rushing to meet deadlines and spent the time in R&D, I'm sure they could launch a successful wireless network across the state. Their dependency on government grants that have short deadlines has hurt their development and sullied their image, and if they could just sever the ties to time-constrained government grants and be free to really DEVELOP a strategy and invest in the RESEARCH required to devise a PLAN before implementing, they could shine. Currently, the ONLY thing they do well is FIBER to the home - but let me tell you - their fiber to the home is FANTASTIC and only $70 a month! If internet service to your home is what you're looking for, VTel *IS* the answer you've been seeking. read more

Vtel is home to the nation's fastest fiber optic internet service with 1gbs upload AND download speed! They also even offer 10gbs but I don't have any need for that speed. The installer arrived on time, is extremely knowledgeable and efficient installing my f.o. system of phone/internet and cable tv. To save a few bucks they provide only a 100mb/s wireless N router so if you need the full 1gb/s speed... Plug into the router with a cat6 ethernet cable or add your own AC wifi router. The tv boxes are all wifi as well so no need for them to wire up your house. No problem watching tv while the microwave is being used like my old wifi router a couple generations ago... Lol Prices are average for a package deal... But I tend to think all are overpriced. At least the company and service people are all great. read more

I had V Tel in my apartment and I moved into a new apartment in the same building. The canceled my appointment 3 times. When I called to talk to someone they put me on hold for over 25 minutes. I looked up there hours of operation thinking I would just go to the office. The office closed at 4pm and I was still on hold at 4:17. They had left for the day knowing I was on hold. read more

If you use Vtel Wireless you MIGHT get good speeds, but if you'll go over your data plan on a Saturday be prepared to wait a couple of days to get those speeds again. They throttle you to sub DSL speeds. Even if you upgrade your data plan from the web portal, the business office needs to "review it" before your speeds get back up. Everything besides taking your money is a manual process. "Technical" support can't solve anything because no one at support knows anything or has access to anything so better read up on networking. They should return the 80+ MILLION in tax payer money and hand the towers over to comcast. Thanks for ruining the holiday weekend. read more

Not high speed, as advertised. It would max out at 2mbps. I called in inquiring why I didn't get the published speeds. They said I should be able to get those speeds where I was. They then preceded to tell me I needed to have a tech come out and install an antenna on my house. The visit would be $150 and the antenna would be $250. Absolutely useless customer service. I went to this location with the intention of signing up for internet, grabbing a router, and going home to set it up. I went into the front lobby, stood there for ten minutes, and no one helped me. I went back out to my car and they answered on the first ring. The customer service person checked for availability in my area, gave me instructions on how to sign up online, and told me that my start up kit would be shipped to me. I asked if I could pick it up at their office after I filled out the online and she said that was fine. There was an error on the online form so I went inside. They ended up sitting down with me and manually entering my information. As it turns out VTEL internet uses data like a cellphone plan, but they don't make you sign a contract. read more

TL;DR: If you're in the market for reliable internet at a reasonable price, look elsewhere. This applies to their 4G Wireless internet service only, as I have never tested their other service offerings. EDIT: I am updating this post to let everyone know that they are using employees to post 5 star reviews to balance out their Google rating. Jeremy Moore is an intern at VTel. My wife and I initially signed up for Vtel Wireless after closing on a new home located in a relatively remote area of northern Vermont. Working from home as a Server Administrator, I needed to find reasonably fast, reliable internet for accessing VPN networks and remote desktops, and making internet calls through a VoIP. After lots of research, we decided to go with VTel Wireless, and their 4G internet offering. The initial install and purchase of the outdoor unit cost $500. A bit steep, but that's to be expected when an outdoor antenna is needed. I was initially told that due to my location, the strongest available antenna was to be installed. Unfortunately, this was not the case. With the initial BandLuxe antenna, my service was down nearly every day. Power Cycling the router would help some of the time, but the majority of the time I would need to call tech support and they would do what they refer to as a "forced reattach" of my service. This pattern continued for a few weeks, until they finally sent a technician out to replace the unit with a more powerful one. I was at this time assured that my antenna would be replaced with a more directional unit, the Yagi. I was just returning home when I passed the technician on the road. We both stopped and he said the issue had been taken care of and that he was receiving a strong signal. I thanked him and continued home. To my surprise, the antenna had not been changed. It was the same BandLuxe wide angle receiver. I was a bit concerned to see the same unit, but hopeful that he had found and fixed an issue nonetheless. My internet went down about 10 minutes into testing, and required a call to support to issue a forced reattach before it started working again. The pattern of frequent outages continued. Defeated, I contacted Andrea Spaans, the tech representative manager that I had been dealing with, and told her about my continued troubles. She apologized again, stating that the technician had been instructed to replace the unit with the Yagi, and wasn't sure why it hadn't been done. At this time she scheduled yet another appointment for a new tech to replace the unit. About a week later the new tech and new antenna arrived. He was much more knowledgeable and and said that the first antenna wasn't pointing at the proper tower. He installed the Yagi and was on his way. This whole ordeal took nearly two months, and about 3 dozen calls to tech support before it was finally resolved. Months later, we again ran into issues with the router. It would crash and internet would go down. This took roughly a month to resolve, which finally ended up being a firmware issue. Tech support ended up sending me a replacement router, with updated firmware files. While I am happy that they were able to provide me with a solution, and I highly recommend and commend Jeff Moore's efforts in diagnosing the problem, it was definitely discouraging after all the issues we had already faced with their service. Currently, we are operational on the new router, and new antenna. It's worth mentioning that we still see 3-6 outages per week, all remedied by a quick power cycle. Power-cycling has become a standard procedure for our household. While I can't in good faith recommend it to anyone, I will, for now, be keeping their service, until a more viable option appears. DSL has yet to reach my residence, and while there are other available 4G providers, I do not wish to risk another headache like the one this company has given me. Please also keep in mind that this review is based on their 4G Wireless service offering only, as I have never tested their phone service or fiber networks. read more

Every time I've called for help the tech support has been wonderful. They clearly take me through each step needed and then help me test everything to make sure it's working right. Customer service is unprofessional on an unprecedented level, I mean atrocious. They will tell they are working on something and get back you weeks later, if you're lucky. The internet is subpar at best and dropping occurs almost daily with the router having to be reset constantly to regain a signal. Also if they make a mistake on the billing from their end it's up to you to find out, by religiously checking your bill online because if you are signed up to auto pay you better believe they will take money out of your account without a bat of an eye. The best part of it all is when you figure out why and how THEY incorrectly billed you, they don't even apologize for it; instead they say "well I'm glad we sorted it out" not "thank you for taking time out of your day for figuring out why WE messed up and we are sorry for your troubles and the fact that WE are incompetent". read more

Awful WiFi. It says it's lightning fast, but that's just a big fucking lie. The internet they give me is so slow, I can't go to most websites or view media files on the few websites that I can go to. Also, it goes out constantly. I contacted them a year ago and they still haven't replied. I hope those shitheads get sued. read more
