A lot of people take the funicular up to the top which I believe is 0.90€ one way, however I decided to pull up directions on Google maps and take the walk. I personally recommend the walk as about 3/4 of the way up the mountain, there's better views then there would be from the top because of how hazy it is. I also wouldn't consider it a difficult hike, as you're mostly just walking through residential streets and I believe it took me about 40 minutes to get up, starting at the funicular. At the top of the mountain in the look out, there's park benches and a fountain so I would recommend packing a lunch and eating it at the top

We were planning on strolling the Gran Via to get to the Old Town and finally have a late dinner at Mina (review: http://bit.ly/2BjKg28), but Jamie and I first decided to explore this 21-acre city park because it felt awfully inviting (photo: http://bit.ly/2l9F5Ls). Passing by the Museo de Bellas Artes, we came upon the duck pond where toddlers frolicked as their parents traded gossip with each other while smoking their cigarettes (photo: http://bit.ly/2BBuno4). There was an oddly gymnastic young couple who looked like they were on the brink of fornication on the lawn, but perhaps they were practicing for the next Summer Olympics. Our people-watching respite among the greenery gave us just enough of a recharge to give us momentum for the rest of our Bilbao day.

However in situ, it makes total sense. At a human scale its underpinnings line up with the surrounding buildings and the river it sits upon. The curvilinear forms are symbolic of the ships once built on this ground in the early 20th century. As an icon and symbol of basque pride. Interestingly, it also plays homage to Frank Lloyd Wright's opus the original Guggenheim in NYC. The Art? The building is the art. I will let others comment on its success as a gallery. On the way east we stopped here for a few hours. We parked at the beach. Easier, cheaper and lots…read moreof spots. But it's about a 10' walk away with lots of stairs. But for us the best option. The town center is pretty small, but filled with charming buildings. A very nice church in the middle and a lively square. There's some good food as well. Good cheeses, meat and pies can be found in several shops. Most restaurants are on the main square with lots of outside tables. Menus looked good, but we didn't have that much time. Bought some pie and ate it at some nice viewpoint overlooking the beach. Some streets here are steep and cobbled. There are ways around them if you have a stroller or a wheelchair, but it's still difficult to navigate at some points. Besides many good food shops there are arts & craft stores as well as souvenir shops. Also a "Dia" supermarket if you need some groceries. A nice little town for a quick visit. Wouldn't stay several days though, since it's quite a compact area only. But the beach is also worth checking out.
