A nice children's play area was also available, plus lots of grass for kicking a ball around. There were great views of the Hudson River as well as the highway and railroad bridge. Sadly, no trains went by while we were there. They have nice campgrounds which we drove by on the way in, which seemed isolated from each other and well designed. At least a couple of hiking trails were also observed. Well worth the $6 cover charge to get in.

Def worth going a little out of your way for. Couple of things: -No swimming signs are posted-I've head people still do it. -There is a port-o-let in the parking lot-didn't use and not sure if it's unlocked/clean but if your coming for more than 1/2 hour may be smart to bring some t.p. -There are a few picnic tables by the falls-but if it's crowded then your prob going to need a picnic blanket. -The road that gets you to the park is rutted in places so go slow and don't drive in the ruts. If you have a super low car because your one of those types then skip this as you will prob bottom out. -Bring a trash bag and take your stuff (and anything you find) out.

I had read about Big Deep- but we never found it in all the years we've visited Woodstock, NY until the Summer of '22. Big Deep reminded me of the movie, 'The Beach'. Wait up though- this is a much smaller, smaller, smaller, smaller, smaller and rugged version of the movie and a farrrrrrrrrr stretch from that lush and tropical beach setting. So paradise, is not. At its best, Big Deep is only (and I mean only) a patch of some water (a lot of it has receded), lots of trees blocking the Sun and a bunch of rocks. Get some legit water sandals to avoid walking bare feet on rocks, scraping your skin- otherwise, pray you don't break a toe. Don't drive too fast or you'll miss it. Big Deep has designated paved drivable entrance and exit paths. After you're parked, it's a trek on more paved paths to get to 'the beach', lake or whatever you wanna call it. I'm not glorifying Big Deep- but it is secluded in its own bizarre way. Some blogs have mentioned this may be/will be closed off. If you feel like you want to put up with this scene, by all means. It's $0 to get in (from the last time we were here).

They've built a new playground near the pavilion that is pretty awesome, they've added more benches along the trails and they've done some upgrades to the ball field. The ball field still needs improvement and the road needs to have the craters filled so hopefully the town will take that on this spring. It's a peaceful place to walk my pup on my lunch hour to recharge my batteries.

Theres also a fitness trail-this is a year-round park so it's good for cross country skiing as well. Lots of people use this to walk the dogs. Of course it's a carry in carry out park. The trails are fairly easy and short several bridges but there's benches next to the streams so you can sit and reflect. There's two entrances to the park. The also hold summer concerts here.

There were two pavilions in the area and we had the one on the right, but the one on the left was being used by two different groups of people celebrating two different events. I don't know if either or both rented it, or if both showed up at the same time, but it looked like an awkward situation. The pavilion we rented had at least one electrical outlet good for a crock pot or stereo, but don't think there were many more. Next to it was a small barbecue grill that was about 18x24". It was big enough for a family gathering, but it couldn't possibly hold enough food for a crowded pavilion unless they were all eating hot dogs. We tried, and only got about 16 burgers on it at a time. A large garbage can with a bag liner was inside at the corner, but we were told that it was NOT for use by people who rent the pavilion (rental is carry in-carry out) but instead was for use by those who don't rent the pavilion. That must be a mistake as nobody would have such a stupid policy. Nearby was a nice kids playground, and all around us and mixed through the trees was a disc golf course. I should have brought my old Frisbee from college. I was told a creek also ran in the area. Bathrooms were within sight but I never ventured near them. All told, a decent place to rent.

I took this journey at the start of February, and there was tons of snow on the ground. On the first day, I arrived at the Massachusetts parking lot around 3 PM I figured I had a good two hours before sundown. I turned back after walking a short way down the trail because it was so steep, I thought I was going to tumble into the river. When I got back, I watched a video of someone hiking on the Massachusetts side, and I realized that the trail is normally full of stairs This makes sense because it's very steep and that's why it's so short but because of the snow, the stairs are covered up I would definitely not recommend using the Massachusetts side in the winter On the second day, I got to the New York parking lot around 2 PM. I made it about halfway down the much more gradual and scenic trail before I turned back. I turned back because the sun disappeared behind the mountain, and it was dark and windy On the third day, I got to the New York side at 11 AM. This time I realized that the top of the trail is just always dark and windy because it's in a corridor between two mountain peaks. So I pressed on. It took me about one hour to get to the end of the trail. I walked pretty slowly and stopped to look at nature a lot. If you are not someone who is super confident staying on the path in the forest, these are fairly easy trails because it's just a straight line the whole way there and you are following the river the whole time. I'm so glad I didn't give up because the falls are one of the most beautiful magical things I've ever seen Instead of water flowing down through the ice, it was snow and slush bursting through the sections of the frozen waterfall the water exploding into 1 million tiny snowflakes from the top to the bottom I plan to come back here in the summer with my kids and I think they will really love it.

There's just something about being surrounded by nature that fills my cup. I LOVE to hike so this was my happy place. Even better, we got to share the experience with friends we've had for 24 years after meeting on a cruise. Good friends, beautiful scenery, and another memory made together. That's my kind of day. You can go I on the MA side which has lots of stairs but is a shorter walk or do the NY side with a short 3/4 mile hike to the falls.

The Turn Park Space is a fairly large location spread out over many acres. There is a small river flowing next to the park with high rocky outcrops. They even placed a few sculptures on this escarpment to view from the other side. We both enjoyed our time there- my favorite piece was titled "Reflection", by Nikolai Silis.
