Such an old time diner feel- we very much enjoyed it! Service was quick and we were able to find a seat quickly even though the space inside is quite small. The ambiance is casual and sounds is moderate level with the exposed kitchen and close proximity to conversations. As you know by now, I'm a 'road warrior', working around North America for weeks at a time...and I love to travel for work and I live to travel but that doesn't mean that I live for work! One of the great things about this migratory life is the chance to experience restaurants that aren't local to my Macomb, MI home...and Waffle House is one of those places that I'll stop at whenever I spot one. There's just something about them: the same layout, the friendly local staff, and (of course) the food is always worth returning for. This week I'm in Wapakoneta, Ohio and the Waffle House here (just across the street from the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum) is within walking distance from my hotel, and I couldn't resist. Since it was late, I opted for a simple Texas toast patty melt with bacon, paired with a Sprite, and it did the job easily. I placed the order and within minutes it was steaming away on my plate. Even at today's inflated prices it was a deal at under $11. I was also happy to see there were four workers on site; with all the job layoffs in the news it's good to see a well-staffed restaurant. Caveat: any time I review a Waffle House it's likely going to be five stars. I absolutely love this place, and crave it all the time after leaving Texas for Michigan (where we, depressingly, have no Waffle House). This particular location is extra special though. We found it by accident while traveling through Ohio. While eating our kick ass waffles and hash browns, we looked out the window and saw a large, bizarre looking structure across the street. Turns out that's the Armstrong Air & Space Museum -- so we visited there too. All in all an unexpected and very cool surprise. read more

Probably the best Waffle House experience I've had, if I could pack this place up with all its management and employees and bring them to the 'ville that would be great. Service was spot on and that food was great! Stopped by around 12 midnight for a late night meal traveling back to louisville from Cedar Point. First thing that stood apart was that it was actually packed, most waffle houses are dead around this time. They were fairly staffed for the time of day, once again, that doesn't happen often. Our waitress kept my coffee cup full without asking which was nice, same for my water (I'm a fish). I ordered the Texas Bacon Patty Melt and it was made very well, it wasn't over cooked or under cooked just perfect. The hash browns were to die for, especially with a drizzle of mayonnaise. I have a soft spot in my heart for Waffle House so my boyfriend and I stopped in to this location before checking out the Armstrong museum. We got a double order of hash browns to split, a side of bacon, and a side of sausage. I ordered the hash browns covered and smothered but they only had cheese. They were delicious though! Hash browns at Waffle House have a different texture than typical hash browns and they're usually cooked perfectly. These weren't quite as crispy but they were greasy and delicious. The bacon was crispy and the sausage patties were flavorful. It was a nice treat as we never usually go to Waffle House! Service was quick and friendly. This location is convenient to the highway and has a good amount of parking. If you've been to one Waffle House you know what to expect. This one was about as clean as they usually are and food was being turned out quickly. I think it's fun to hear them expediting orders and calling out the different dishes. Looking at other Yelp reviews, we were ready to give this Waffle House a breakfast try today. I can give it 3 stars but really, no more. Service was OK. Food was pretty much typical Waffle House fare. Grits were hot but quiet lumpy. Scrambled eggs, no flavor to speak of. Some of the employees were friendlier than others. Had to ask for our coffee to be refilled by someone other than our original server. Wanted to give this more than 3 stars but I just don't see it. Maybe better next time. I can't complain about waffel house. Its quick and easy breakfast and sometimes lunch. We decided to go gor brunch here. We were welcomed my they staff. Ordered some sandwich and gritts. Recieved it as requested no complaints there except for being little greasy. The whole place looks run down and a little filthy. Since you can see the kitchen you can tell the upkeep. The wrath of loyal Waffle patriots everywhere might be roused by my lukewarm response to a cultural fixture of the states below the Waffle-IHOP Line. If you are a diehard fan, turn away now. As a reviewer, I can't close my eyes to syrup-induced illusions or a high-flying reputation. I wanted to see for myself why this institution is so ubiquitous and beloved, and whether it lived up to the hype. No trip down I-75 is complete without seeing the yellow-brick block sign of "Waffle House" like some sort of answer to the golden arches. The South has given us such peculiar institutions as sweet tea, vampire novels, Dixie music, Dixiecrats, and Waffle House. I'm certain town charters in the vicinity of Kentucky down to the Gulf require at least one of these restaurants and at least three for populations of 5,000+. The beau and I stopped on our mighty road trip to South Carolina here at Ohio where we discovered to our delight that Waffle House's illustrious neighbour was the Neil Armstrong Museum! Cue climbing into mock capsules and Apollo blocks outside. Waffle Houses are uniformly unassuming, mostly squat buildings hung with funny signs and t-shirts in the window, according to my scientific survey of multiple drive-bys. The laminated menu consists of a host of southern favourites on a mass produced breakfast restaurant scale, like grits and sausages, gravy-covered everything, and eggs. For a place named for waffles, the skimpy selection covers regular waffles with a few optional inclusions: strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, and I think pecans. I went for the berries together, but beware if you expect actual fruit. Mine might have been freeze-dried packages stolen from the astronautical museum next door, or a pink chemical powder reconstituted with a dash of water. Little chewy nuggets assimilated some strong chemical flavour and appearance in keeping with plant food minerals than even the saddest Nordic IKEA-prefab strawberry plant. The beau chowed through eggs and toast with a mildly saddened expression as he sawed a rubber lozenge in the shape of a sausage for a good five minutes before it split. Prices are pretty low and food quality comes out as edible, but far from remarkable. Truckstops and greasy spoon cafes provide the closest parallel to what you should expect to find from a Waffle House. The waitresses were friendly and prepared the food quick, clearly used to catering to travelers and those on their way to work or school. The highlight was probably the jukebox, a standard in all Waffle Housekind, though it had the most conniptic array of songs I've seen in years. Old country standards are next to Waffle House songs (apparently they have their own recordings), a smattering of pop tracks and hardcore hip-hop. I've done my duty as an American and experienced one of those cultural landmarks unique to a region. I probably wouldn't return unless everything else is closed. read more

The reason I gave it 3 instead of 5 stars is because I was visiting with a friend after our breakfast and while there were people waiting, they could have bussed another empty table or made a solo person sit at the counter instead of taking up a booth. Love the pecan waffles here - my favorite thing on the menu. HOWEVER, was just here the other day and they have added NICE salads. I had the chicken, pecan salad which is enough for your meal, don't add anything else or you probably wouldn't be able to eat it all. They did up date the junkbox....not happy about that. It seems that you pay a little more for a new song to be down loaded and then once there you can choose it again. The music is streaming in from how I was explained too. I liked the old set up. My daughter and I went for dinner on Christmas evening about 5:30. They were extremely busy being the only restaurant open in town near the highway. Will probably be the only time you will ever see a worker on door/greeting/seating duty. We sat at the high counter as soon as you enter the door, had drink orders taken and delivered right away. They had at least 3-4 cooks working, 4-5 people taking orders, a dedicated person on washing dishes and clearing tables. The 2 men cooking in front of of us were great. Singing Christmas songs, greeting guest with Merry Christmas all while smiling and cooking away. Food was terrific! Coffee stayed filled up too. We left happy, full, and left a hefty tip.
