So I came here for lunch on a Wednesday and wanted to try it out to see if it was worth another visit, particularly with the hubs. This place is definitely nice, kind of "bougie" but not intimidating. I like that it's just a Japanese restaurant and not combined with other cuisines. My selection: spider maki (soft-shell crab rolls), and the lunch special of smoked (?) mackerel nigiri. I washed them down with a melon soda that I hadn't had in a loong time. It was tempting to try other sushi, but I have a soft spot for soft-shell crab rolls (say that three times fast). I'll come here again.

Once inside, the place is decorated with an oriental style, and is filled with about 8 large tables that seat around ten people and which surround an area in the middle of each that have a hotplate for the chef to cook. Once there are enough people at a table, they join you with others if there aren't many of you, they take your order and the chef begins to prepare it. As he is right in front of you, you can see exactly what he does. He interacts with everyone at the table and even tosses pieces of fried egg into willing peoples' mouths. The prices of the dishes are reasonable for an upmarket restaurant like this, and the dishes are cooked extremely well with a fascinating 'show' while it's being cooked. Arigato Tonkatsu…read more Brilliant place with great customer service. On the old site as ekachai, the place is welcomed with friendly staff introducing the dishes to me. As it's the opening day, they only had limited stocks of ramen dishes. Fortunately the Tonkatsu was available and the broth didn't disappoint a hot thick 18 hours simmered broth added a powerful porky flavour, which was unique to its brand. The pork belly had a rich creamy texture which added flavour to the broth the longer you left it in it. The homemade noodles were infused with soy and miso, so it definitely added a salty taste which compliments the broth. The gyozas were very good with a light crispy texture coating, it complimented well with Tonkatsus own chilli oil. The chicken Karaage sadly didn't do too much justice and unfortunately was a little bit dry, therefore I would t recommend. Tonkatsu has made itself a marker for a ramen place and will hold on this title as long as it remains. I'm coming again soon!
