This is an awesome little dive. There are no signs from I-10 so you need to get the directions from Yelp. It is on 163 south about .5 mile south of I-10. We had the chopped brisket sandwich. Stopped here on a road trip. What a find! It's very homey, we walked in and were encouraged to seat ourselves and then help ourselves to some sweet tea and lemonade, while the woman running the restaurant helped the other diners. All the food basically seems to come out of giant crockpots that line the counter space. Don't expect a special bbq sauce though, they had two different styles of store bought french's on the table. But I don't think the meat really needed it. I shared a plate of ribs and brisket. Everything was delicious, though a bit greasy. Just stopped in here for the first time, came off the I-10 and found this place based off the high reviews. It was BOMB. I got the chopped brisket sandwich, it was full of flavor, the potato salad is so good. It's all home made. My parents and boyfriend got the plates, they got brisket, sausage, and some pork ribs...everything was great. The owners are so nice and welcoming. Don't be fooled or thrown by the outside, your here for great food. Everything is seasoned so well and the sides are delish! OHH and you get peach cobbler which is by the way BOMB.com! Found this place on yelp while overnighting enroute to Christmas vacation. Quaint little shop that looks like a converted gas station. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Food was 4 star but not as awesome as the five star reviews. beans lacked flavor and the brisket was fattier than I would have liked. Definitely a place for a good meal. It is difficult to locate because the GPS doesn't accept the address. However, it is right across the street from the Pilot truck stop (search Pilot gas). Given the original functionality, the bathroom is outside requiring a key but nicer and better kept than I have seen by franchises. Simple menu, meat plates or sandwiches with standard sides. The macaroni salad was tasty, as was the green beans. The BBQ was the star, excellent chopped brisket and pork. An excellent thin vinegar based sauce provided at the 3 family style tables. I got a chicken sandwich, my husband got the meat plate with brisket and our friend got the chopped beef sandwich. We all enjoyed our food. There are three sauces on the table two store bought and one in a squeeze bottle that seems homemade. It's tangy, sweet and just a tad spicy. For a side a had the potato salad which is more mayo-y than mustard-y. One of us got the macaroni salad. We would stop here again if we were to ever drive through. We were on a road trip and have never driven through Ozona before. They keep the meat warm in crock pots along the counter which makes serving up the food super fast. Which is nice for a quick stop on a road trip. After we finished the owner told us about her tire swing in the yard beside the restaurant so our two year old could play for a bit. There's also a basketball hoop. We also played with the dog Maggie who was laying outside. I'd describe this restaurant as a "dive" but in a positive way. read more

I stopped here on my way from the Davis Mountains because of Yelp. It's a small joint, inside a former gas station on the outskirts of town with very poor signage. You really have to look for it. According to the owner, they decorated the inside of the restaurant to replicate his wife's grandmother's kitchen. It's pretty cool. All the food sits in hot pots strung across the counter in succession. The barbecue is more East Texas than Central Texas - it comes on a meat-and-three platter - two sides and a dessert. After I ordered, the cook fired up the electric knife and carved me some brisket. Then she set about chopping and mixing the coleslaw. The brisket was flavorful, but wet and not moist. I've run into that paradox with brisket before, wet and not juicy, and I don't know what causes it. Some added barbecue sauce made it really good. Yep, this is East Texas barbecue. It needed sauce. But there's nothing wrong with that. The sides weren't as good. The corn on the cob was soggy and the coleslaw was bland. Making up for the sides was the awesome peach cobbler, with its perfect sweetness and perfect crust. Oh what I would have given for a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I left happy. read more

Again, we don't appreciate that. We also didn't appreciate the dine and dash attempt...had my wife not caught Philip at the door he would have walked out without paying. Had you had the courage and integrity to voice your displeasure to our face you would have been afforded the opportunity to leave without paying legitimately as we would not have charged you. I looped back 5 miles to catch this place because of the 4 star reviews on my way back from travelling one end of I-10 to the other, anticipating a diamond in the rough. I found more rough. Everything was hand made, as noted in other reviews. But that's not always a good thing. The beans and potato salad seemed homemade, but they forgot to season them..... at all. Initially, I ordered ribs and sausage, then noticed the chicken and went with that. Should have gone with my first mind. The leg was dry. Dry dark meat is a mortal sin. So why 3 stars? ( I'm glad I asked!) The ribs were just about the BEST commercial bones I've ever had. Very well seasoned with good smoke and no sauce (and I like sauce!), Good tooth; the meat pulled cleanly from the bone without falling off. They were moist and meaty, and not mushy. These ribs were slammin. They really would have rated 4 stars if the sides and chicken weren't so awful. Maybe it was an off day. read more

This is some of the best BBQ I have ever had! My boyfriend and I stopped here on the way to San Antonio after driving for three days from CA. Tired of fast food and with some time to spare, I found this place on Yelp. It is ran out of what used to be a gas station but do not let that deter you! We ordered a pound of ribs and I ordered a side of corn for myself. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone as we picked them off of the plate and they were very flavorful. They have a house sauce they offer that was very good. They offer a few different sauces but I loved their house sauce. I also highly recommend their sweet tea. It is sweetened but not enough to where it tastes like you are drinking straight sugar like some other restaurants. I wish this place was closer to San Antonio. We stopped by Wagon Wheel on our way home from vacation after reading good reviews. We were pretty unimpressed by the quality of the food. It wasn't bad, but also wasn't outstanding. The brisket was good, but a bit dry. The sausage was great though! They were out of most sides already so we got pinto beans and corn which were fine. The inside felt a bit dirty and the food was kept in warmers. The owners were friendly though and they seemed to have a lot of business. They tried to charge us for 4 drinks when we all got water and overcharged us by $18. We caught the mistake and they corrected it. Most of the food is overpriced ($17 for a two-meat plate). My husband and I were driving though town and needed to stop somewhere between El Paso and Austin. You might say it's a quiet drive - from what I could see it's all small towns when there is anything. We tried the Wagon Wheel after going back and forth on a couple places on Yelp. We saw what looked like a converted gas station with a large smoker and a man in a brimmed hat. We stepped outside to be hit with a beautiful smell of BBQ. We stopped to chat with the man, Kirby, who was super friendly and welcomed us to go inside. The interior is quiet, cozy, casual, and could feel like someone's home. They have the self described " Best Tea in Texas" and I can't argue. We both had beef brisket sandwiches with potato salad and washed it down with sweet tea and lemonade. So glad we found this place. Such a good experience and a wonderful memory of Texas for us. read more
