Having had a Great first experience at Wahaca in Angel I was happy to try the one in South bank tonight only to find myself disappointed. We waited 30 minutes for a table despite seeing many empty tables dotted around. The walk to the bar proved a waste of time as it was quicker to get a table than it was to get a drink. We waited a long time after ordering and when the food did eventually come my order was wrong. I had to refuse the fish tacos twice before anyone realised it wasn't what I ordered. I was left in the dark for a while before I was told what was happening and I'm sad to say that when the Grilled Haddock did arrive it was not worth the wait as the rice was overcooked and quite hard. Overall I was very disappointed with the service I received and don't think I'll be going back to a Wahaca again. read more

A tamed down version of true Mexican food. I'm usually suspicious of Mexican restaurants that are so geographically far from Latin America, however I was pleasantly surprised by Wahaca. The food is your basic UK version of "Mexican fare" including margaritas, quesadillas, and guac but it isn't as bad as I thought. Although food lacks spice or authenticity it is a good option for people who looking for a classic "queso and margaritas" kind of Mexican brunch food. If your looking for traditional Latin food this is not the place. But if your looking for a trendy take on Latin, like pomegranate margaritas, with a fun atmosphere then it may be the place for you. As a bonus, the restaurant gives complimentary chile pepper seed to plant in your own garden! read more

As a massive fan of Mexican food because I have lived in California for years and enjoyed very authentic Mexican cooking, I'm grateful to Thomasina Miers (founder of Wahaca) for spearheading the wave of delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine in London. The food here is mostly great, especially the fantastically fresh salsa and super creamy guacamole. The Tortilla chips are moreish but the pork rinds, I warn you, are not. They will break your teeth! Dreadful! But do try everything else as it is all delicious and as realistic a rendition of proper Mexican food that you are going to get in London. ps the Margaritas are out of this world! read more

I was completely won over by the interior design of Wahaca. The toilets alone resemble a Roman sanitation system, with a contemporary take. The restaurant itself is spacious, light and modern. The menu was really long and exciting. After some great Mexican food at Lupita's, my friend and I were eager to try out more authentic food. I ordered the vegetarian cactus and corn burrito-at £6.50 it seemed like a good deal. My friend took the steak burrito. We got some guacamole on the side, which we didn't realise they would charge us for (but they charged us a hefty £2.95 for a small bowl). The burrito was okay, but a bit on the small side, and the tortilla chips did little to excite me. The refried beans were a bit bland and seemed to be the main component of the burrito. The rice tasted a little bit too processed. I poured a lot of the hot sauce on my burrito to improve the taste but I think the burrito was also a bit on the sloppy side, lacking crunchy and tasty vegetables. I would give wahaca another try, they have horchata on the menu for only £1.75, a relative steal. Otherwise, quite a forgettable experience. read more

I don't get out much being a mum with a small child, but when I do I like good food with an upbeat but relaxed child friendly atmosphere. Wahaca ticked all the right boxes. finally made it here for dinner with a group of friends. my boyfriend and i ordered the sweet potatoes and guac to share - both were delicious and size wise, although not big, was just right. i also had the ceviche salad which came in a burrito bowl. it was delicious and really spicy. i don't know if it was already spicy cos i added some of the hot sauce on the table before i tasted it haha, but it was soooooo good. i think i would have preferred it if the shrimp was a bit bigger and more substantial than it was but it was so filling and really reasonably priced. other orders around the table included beef burritos, fish tacos and quesadillas - everyone was happy with their food. my friend liked his fish tacos he said he wished he could never stop eating them! i also had a tamarind margarita which was just delightful. i love margaritas so much. i actually think the margaritas here are reasonably priced for a central london eaterie and have no problem paying the £5.95 for them. the wine list is also reasonably priced. read more

I always enjoy a visit to a Wahaca and this time was no exception. I really liked both the restaurant and bar area here in Soho. Very cool vibes as always. I went in on a Saturday night around 9pm so I was doubtful if we were even going to get a table, but we were greeted politely at the door and given an eta of 45-60min (not too bad I thought). In the end we waited maybe 30 minutes for our table which went by so fast we didn't even have time to finish our delicious Hibiscus Mojitos in the downstairs bar before the alarm went off in our buzzer. The lady who took us to our table seemed a little rude and uninterested, but otherwise the staff was great! I absolutely love the "Street Food" section on the menu and ordered 3 things from there - all delicious and divine! You can't really go wrong here no matter what you order. The food came really fast (as it always does) even though the restaurant was fully booked. Our lovely waitress recommended the Hibiscus Margarita for me and it was ridiculously amazing, maybe even better than the Mojito. All and all the night was a success, which (to be frank) I've become to expect in a Wahaca anyway :) read more

Great place for mexican food served with a modern twist right in the middle of Soho, in direct vicinity of various theaters. Service was prompt and very friendly, the menu is extensive with a large selection of "Mexican tapas". If this isn't your thing there is a selection of larger dishes to chose from, too. Quality of the food was excellent, portions were decent. However, especially on the weekends, this place will end up packed and consequently will become very noisy. Not a good spot for a romantic dinner, but a great location for a night out with friends. read more

I'm torn on this place. I've been twice and both times the food was pretty good, but there's always something that prevents me from categorizing it as a 4 star place. I went today, we were a group of 5. We ordered guacamole to share and it was just OK - not sure how to make guac so flavorless but they managed. I also ordered the special of barbacoa tacos, which are 3 pretty small tacos with sopping wet meat. it was tasty, but really really salty (and i add extra salt to EVERYTHING). i had to eat it with the very bland guac to neutralize it. the chicken tostadas were actually pretty tasty. no complaints here - piled pretty high with ingredients and the flavors fit together well. it was like eating a salad more than anything since the tortilla was so tiny and thin. the side of frijoles - black beans with some cotija cheese and cream - was very good! very creamy. will be getting these again. Don't get the Mexican Hot Chocolate. It's dairy free because it's made with water and I felt like it was grainy, rich, but watered down nonetheless. I got the horchata last time I came and it was so so watery. blegh! It's a great place for groups to gather which is kind of rare in Soho, and there's plenty of options for everyone. I think it's probably a good place for people who haven't really had Mexican food. My Dutch friends absolutely loved it. I still miss my taco trucks in LA, and this doesn't really hit the spot. I know a restaurant is bad when no-one at any point in the whole evening says' how is it' Dodgy nachos that tasted like they were left over from a kids party the day before. Burritos with chicken lukewarm and filed with mush Sides horrid - my black beans looked like they had been regurgitated by someone's chihuahua. Bad veggie choices too. Two of my party didn't eat in the end. Friendly food in a tin box. I love the South Bank and always have done since I was a teenager. I love the pure brutalist architecture as do many other poncey middle class north Londoners. So that's me covered. So some garishly painted sea containers plonked on one of Londons finest examples of brutalist architecture meant I was pissed off and not going to take part in their tex mex reinvented offering. However hunger and a few days holiday relaxed my cranky views and with my tolerant wife we entered the Wahaca tin boxes. Service, at 12.20, was quick friendly and helpful. Seated upstairs the view and interior on a sunny day felt quite nice. It was all quite nice. The food, a selection of sharing dishes, were all three yelp stars OK. I'm no Mexican food expert but I just found Wacacha's offerings a little bland. I love chilli but not when you have to add it yourself from an own brand - available in a supermarket near you - bottle of chilli sauce with overpowering notes of vinegar. It's like a old fashioned cafe where you smother the food in cheap tomato sauce to give it flavour. Finally we went for a little dessert. We customised their vanilla ice cream with nuts and caramel topping to peanut butter ice cream with the toppings. The mean three scoops arrived with nuts but no caramel. The ice cream had formed large crystals, the ultimate ice cream sin. Service was very good and I tipped suitably. Other people love it. read more

We are here on vacation from Los Angeles and we are so sad we found this place on the last day of our trip, we would've come back many times. Our server, Noelia, was so kind and helpful and really made us feel comfortable. Excellente! My friend and I were craving chips & salsa and margaritas. When we arrived, the place was packed, which is usually a good sign. We had an hour wait for a table, so they sent us downstairs to the bar area. Seating was a bit tight down there as well, but we were able to share a table with some people and we sampled a couple different margaritas. I started out with the Tamarind Margarita, which was really good, but I slurped it down in 3 sips, they put A LOT of ice in the small glass, £5.95 each, you can easily rack up a large bill! They also serve chips, salsa and guac downstairs while you're waiting for your table. After a couple rounds we were starving and headed upstairs, our waitress was very attentive and gave a couple recomendations for us, we ordered the Pork Pibil, Plaintain Tacos and the MSC fish a la Pimienta (we chose fried, not grilled fish). Everything was delicious, but the standout was the Michelada. It was like liquid gold, you have to try this if you like spicy cocktails. I had an absolutely amazing dinner here with a friend. The Huaracha was my favorite dish by far, but everything I tasted was delicious. And the wine pours were extremely generous by any standards, and certainly reasonable by London's. I highly recommend it, and if you can get there early, you'll have no trouble getting a table. It gets very busy at about seven o'clock, but if you're in by six, you'll have a fabulous dinner without any wait. Service is excellent as well. read more

Love this restaurant! Great view of the river if you get a table upstairs, and they never rush you out despite usually having a line at peak hours. The sampler is great - tacos are very well crafted, and quesadillas are perfect. Their guac is great, but not the best. Avocado and corn salad is fantastic. They don't have the mini burritos that are so great at their other locations and the prices are a bit higher here than their others due to what I imagine is a costlier spot to run a restaurant. Typically a great atmosphere and the food is worth the money. Only 4 instead of 5 stars because of price and the fact that it's not quite as good as their other locations. read more

I loved it! Especially the idea of small portions where you can try many of your Mexican favorites at the same time. This is a gourmet Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is very lively, colors and decoration are super bright. The service was very good and the best of all everything we tried tasted very delicious. The different salsa sauces and the presentation of the food, absolutely wonderful. I wish a place like this existed in Copenhagen (where I live currently). read more

I liked this place for many years after watching Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers help introduce Mexican food to the Soho scene. Was hardly around as an eaterie here. I do think the guacamole always needs more lime. Had to ask for extra a few times, but maybe that's my personal preference. I don't think the burritos are all that. They are good but Freebird is better. What I do like and what they do excel is is the tequila and the pork tacos. Both are the only things I order when I go there now. I once had 15 tacos in one sitting it was so addictive (I must have been hungry!). The Soho branch is much bigger though both have queues most of the time on weekends. The perfect place for meeting up for a quick meal in the West End. I had seen this new outpost of the Wahaca chain pre-opening and vowed to come back as it looked so colourful - I'm glad I did! OK, it was the Tuesday before Christmas, but the entire place was so packed we barely managed to get a table for two in front of the open kitchen. Although there were people waiting to be seated, they seemed to be taken care of quickly and I have to say that there was a really buzzing and convivial atmosphere! When my friend (finally) arrived we shared a bottle of their house red and decided on a few tapas-type plates to share. First was slow cooked pork bilpil tacos, chorizo and potato quesadillas and street food special - Queso Fundido with (garlicy mushrooms in a cheesy taco ) All these street food dishes are betweem £3.95 and £5.00 which is very cheap for the portions, but there are also larger meals like burritos, enchilladas and grilled meats etc for higher prices. I would definitely go back here - there is a good atmosphere, service was friendly and surprisingly, our waiter didn't rush us out despite the high turnover of tables. read more
