As for value, some things are a little expensive, but they also have affordable stuff if you look hard enough. They are not any more expensive than any other shop in Long Beach. I always make it a point to stop here every single time I'm in Long Beach. The ticket comes with a tour of an actual boat, which we did first, it's a steep ladder to go down into the boat so I would recommend only to people in better health. You can walk on top of the boat as well if you can't go down inside. The actual museum itself is so well curated and has SO many rooms and exhibits to look at. They have 3D movie options which we didn't do, but the museum itself is beautifully done and worth it if you have time in Astoria.

It's worthy of a stop but once is enough and you can continue driving up to the nearby lighthouse at Cape Disapointment.

Also, she keeps you abreast of the openings and closings of the museum. The museum is typically closed during the winter season but opens during the weekends in the summer months. The last time I was there she said you are the first ones in so no charge. I bought a pin on the way out for $10 as I want to support this great and fun place. She doesn't have a true gift shop as of yet. But they are moving around the exhibits to put one in the front of the museum. I'm excited as they had a small one in the middle of the downstairs in the past and they had some fun items. Most of the stuff you have to see to believe and it's all unbelievably quirky which adds to the overall fun of the place. I try to go each time I'm in town. It's well worth the $5 admission. I'll definitely be back again.

We also scheduled a tour of the blast zone and encountered beautiful scenery, landscapes and wildlife. You start out in a small gift shop where there are some books and various local items for purchase. You continue on to the exhibit area, and get to read about Canon Beach's history in the form of a timeline. The presentations also had cones that provided audio in Spanish. When we visited, a couple of the exhibits were in progress, but the newer timeline presentations looked really sharp in comparison to the couple of older displays they still had available. The museum made an effort for some interactive displays as well, There were a couple of telephones where you could listen to fabricated accounts of people of a certain time, and then there was also a small room in the back that was set up like an Indian long house that encouraged kids to play in it. There was another room in the back that had a quilt / art display in it. Based on the older reviews, it doesn't sound like this display ever rotates. There were a couple of options for sitting on benches while reading the displays. You could do this place in under an hour.
