I live in Todd, NC and I have used every tubing company on the New River. Wahoo's is simply the best there is, hands down. I have three small children including a one year old and the reason my family keeps choosing Wahoo's is because they're the only tubing company who has restrooms where I can change my baby's diaper without having to use the side of the road on the ground. The bathrooms at Wahoo's are very nice and clean which is a rare find in the woods on a river. The other tubing companies either don't have bathrooms at all or they just use port-a-johns on the side of the river. You don't know how thankful you'll be that Wahoo's thought of real bathrooms with baby-changing stations until you need to change a diaper. I have had to have my husband hold a towel up like a curtain while I changed my kids' clothes to keep people from seeing us change after tubing with other companies. No roadside clothes-changing at Wahoo's, though. My family has our own tubes but we use Wahoo's anyway for the conveniences of not having to walk for miles with kids or not having to take two cars. Wahoo's shuttles us for only $10 which I'm happy to pay so that I can use their picnic tables, bathrooms and parking area. If you have small children, Wahoo's is the only way to go because you will quickly learn that other companies don't have the luxuries that make tubing with small children easy. Btw, there are no private parking areas on the New River unless you go to Wahoo's. You can either park on the side of the road, park in a public area or park at Wahoo's. So that's a big plus for Wahoo's. The staff is fantastic and they've always made us feel like a priority. I have had to wait for more than an hour with other companies and I've also been turned away by other companies who refused to shuttle our tubes unless we rented theirs. Wahoo's will shuttle you for a small fee and let you use their facilities even if you have your own tubes! Shuttles leave every few minutes so I've never had to wait longer than 15 minutes to get on a shuttle, even when they're busy. It's such a relief not to have to wait when you're with a one year old and a 3 year old. So you might find another company to take you tubing on the New River but you'll also need to prepare to pay more money, change your child's diaper on the ground, use the bathroom in a make-shift outhouse or in the woods and you'll park wherever you can find space for your car. If you're expecting to take a shower at the end of your day, you'll need to go to Wahoo's because there is no hot running water anywhere on the river except at Wahoo's. We always have a great time at Wahoo's but choosing Wahoo's is also just good advice. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed being repeatedly called a terrorist by the rafting guide, it was the highlight of my vacation. I don't even write reviews but people should know... Within minutes of arriving, an employee who went by the name of Jed began harassing me and my friends asking us if we were terrorists and then retorting that we looked like terrorists. He began needling us with questions and following us around while the rest of the staff chuckled behind him completely complicit. Also overheard another guide saying "why do i always have to get the terrorists in my raft?" ......fucking rude, hateful people man, i'm telling you. Keep in my mind we're wearing swimming trunks and tank-tops, completely Americanized looking. All it took was the color of our skin. Also, they will try to fuck you out of a refund and are incapable of understanding why calling brown people terrorists is a big deal. An employee came to apologize to us afterwards by telling us it was just the way they talk around there...Which I completely believe. Since they don't actually advertise that, I thought I should say it for them and warn everyone that there is a serious culture of racism and hate among the staff here at Wahoo's. Not a single employee who was behind Jed made any attempt to intervene or rectify the situation, on the contrary, they seemed quite entertained, smiling and shit. It was only until we decided to leave and get a refund did anyone bother to change their tone. Extremely unprofessional and aggressively stupid people. I recommend you go down the road 5 minutes and the nicest people will take you down the river! read more

My friends and I were looking forward to going rafting but were welcomed with hatred and racism as soon as we got there. One man who worked there as a guide referred to my friends and I as terrorists and constantly asked us questions as to where we were from and what we were doing. Keep in mind we were all born in the US and most of us from Indian decent. We were shocked to encounter such name calling. All of the other workers there didn't say anything to the man and seemed indifferent about the situation unfolding. One of us then asked the other workers what was going on and they said, "it happens". When did blatant racism become okay? Another worker then tried talking to us but only by saying what the other man said was okay and it's what they do around there. We had a difficult time getting a refund too. NEVER a place I would want anyone to go to, especially if you're a minority. Watauga rafting is nearby and much more welcoming! read more

We had such a wonderful experience with Wahoo Adventures in Todd, NC! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the sweetest, friendliest dog, which immediately made us feel welcome. The grounds were beautiful, well-maintained, and incredibly clean. What stood out most was the staff. Every single person was constantly busy helping customers, organizing equipment, or keeping things running smoothly, yet they would stop what they were doing to warmly greet incoming floaters and answer questions. Their customer service was exceptional. The team was also very knowledgeable about the area and happy to share information and recommendations. The river float itself was easy, relaxing, and absolutely beautiful. It made for the perfect day trip with my two kids, ages 12 and 5. Between the stunning scenery, friendly atmosphere, and outstanding staff, Wahoo Adventures helped create some wonderful family memories. We will definitely be back! read more

Our 7th annual "Dad + Kids Camping Tubing/Kayaking Weekend" was held again for the 2nd year at Wahoo's Adventure. This year we had 8 Dads and 22 kids, booking cabins and tent camping on the "New Riviera" at Wahoo's Outpost! This is our second year at Wahoo's and it is under new ownership. We came back because of the great experience we had in June of 2020 staying Friday and Saturday nights and making multiple runs up the river... and the BEST part... ending where you are staying. We have a pretty big group, and the new owners welcomed us openly and have made some great "low hanging fruit" improvements with more to come, including an arcade for kids (it WILL rain at some point), bouncy house, additional clean bathrooms and better efficiency of getting groups of kayakers and/or tubers on the river close to their reserved time. This is a good company. I have used them more than once. Jargon: Intensity depends on water levels. This is not a controlled River. Check out American Whitewater for CFS. We ran it today and I think it was around 400-460 CFS. Very technical, lots of tight chutes, rocks hiding underneath rocks, behind other rocks. Intensity is immediate and tapers off throughout the run. Guides are knowledgable. Listen to them! (I'm looking at you, middle aged men.) There is a reason the age line is 7. I know it's "not that intense" but if a six year old gets pinned to the bottom against Matterhorn (a famous rock I met) they may die. Lunch is pretty decent. Sandwich making supplies, hummus, WATERMELON(!!), veggies, PB and J, lemonade, water. Stay at the family run Super 8 in Erwin for an exponentially shorter ride to the outpost. Patrick is awesome. We just returned from a trip down the Nolichucky with Wahoo's and specifically Patrick/Patty Cakes as our guide. Not sure there is s a better guide in the business....and it was evident Bert and CJ are the best in the business too. Patrick was not only knowledgeable and entertaining, but about as technically sound in the water as they come. We never had a concern, my wife and son and daughter, with Patrick in the raft with us. He made it fun and truly did an amazing job of navigating the Class II/III/IV rapids! Riding in the van with Bert and CJ was great too.....good guys and great to talk with. We would definitely come back as Patrick, CJ, and Bert are very obviously as good as they come and are very entertaining as well! We had a blast!! My family, friends and I were looking forward to a fun day of rafting. However shortly after we arrived at Wahoo's Adventures we were asked if we were terrorist. At first we laughed it off as a joke and moved on. However, it did not stop there, we were called a terrorist again, and were beginning to get questioned about what we were doing and where we were from. We felt very uncomfortable and asked for a refund so that we could leave. We were refused a refund and were told that management is not responsible for their employees actions. I have never been treated in such a manner before and am shocked that a company that has been around for almost 30 years would handle a situation like this so lightly. I will be following up with the Better Business Bureau in regards to how we were treated at Wahoo's Adventures, INC. read more

Patrick and Nathan were expert guides for our wonderful adventure of 9 miles down the Nolichucky River on Class 1-4 rapids. We have experienced other rafting companies which were good but these 2 guides from Wahoo Adventures were excellent and so capable and informative when navigating the huge rocks and rapids down the river. A fabulous adventure was had by all! Their website could offer more information to help people, like knowing that your dry clothes stays in your car at the adventure site and you can change when you return to their offices where they have bathrooms and showers. They have a dry bag on the raft for small items if you need them to hold them for you. Was very excited about tubing for my first time - didn't think about the price until after I paid $58 for me & my husband to go down the river until after I got there- i didn't realize u could bring your own floating device which if u have one would be a lot cheaper for a family looking for something enjoyable to do. I was told that you can pay $10 bucks for the ride there and then you tube back- water was very nice and the river was amazing- not very good instructions as to what to do when you go there for your reservation- we had to walk around and ask after several minutes what to do and where to go etc- I just can't believe they charge so much to rent a tube and a Mile and a half ride- just saying and letting y'all know ahead of time! read more

Our family of 5 went tubing today with the wahoo adventure. It was our three boys first time and they had a blast!!! Covid measures were taken with cleaning the vans after each trip, masks required, and cleaning the tubes, ores, canoes and kayaks after each use. Very impressive communication skills and easy check in when we got there. Waivers were readily available and easy to fill out. Beyond nice and very helpful during our tubing adventure. We forgot the mans name by the end of our trip but he drove the van and had a yellow puppy in the van that he and his wife had rescued!!! Will definitely go back again and will bring others!!!!!! I had an amazing experience rafting with Wahoo's. I did the Nolichucky River white water rafting trip, and I will have to come back and do it again! Wahoo's tour guides were noticeably more experienced and skilled, making the other companies on the Nolichucky look incompetent. Patrick is your guy, he was a fun, witty, and charming tour guide. He knew everything you needed to know about the nature surrounding. He was the trip guide, and the trip went very smooth. All in all, I have been white water rafting with many different companies and in many different places, and Wahoo's blows them all out of the water. read more

We had a blast kayaking with Wahoo's Adventures! My boyfriend and I, on a whim, saw one of their postings and went to the location to see if they had anything available. They quickly got us scheduled for the perfect time the next day and made everything so easy for us. The guy up front (Adam I want to say?) was incredibly nice and welcoming. Drove us to the spot, got our kayaks in the water, and answered all the annoying tourist questions we had about the area. The river itself was crystal clear with beautiful scenery the whole ride. We can't wait to bring our families back in the summer and go tubing! read more

Tubing at Wahoo's today for Floatfest!!! We're having a great time and all proceeds are going to High Country Pathways which is a non-profit organization that builds trailways and keeps them clean! So many people are out here today for this worthy cause and the weather is just gorgeous. Wahoo's staff has been amazing, their facilities are amazing, the river is gorgeous and we couldn't have asked for a better way to spend this gorgeous summer Sunday while benefiting a noble cause! If you give them your credit card number expect them to make fraudulent charges. Lilly, the Asian women who appears to manage the place is intentionally incompetent and extremely rude. Each member of my party was charged incorrectly. We were double charged for premium tubes, and cooler tubes that we did not get, reserve, ask for or want. She just added the charges after we checked in with a prepaid reservation. She works to create a language barrier, that makes her difficult to impossible to have any meaningful discussion with her. She is a bad person and criminal in a very literal sense. read more

The river is free territory. Some groups are capable of buying and floating their own tubes. Never in 13 years of doing this has any company deliberately misguided us and risked lives on account of greed. Wahoo seems to have lost site of natures serenity, and karma. Hope the trail magic disappears for you wahoos. If you don't want to share info- just say so instead of telling folks blatant lies that are going to leave them stranded on a river. My family and I had a wonderful time rafting down the Nolichucky River this weekend with Wahoos Adventures. Our guide Patrick informed us of the historical sites along the river and answered our many questions about them. The lunch provided by the company was organized and tasty! Unlike other companies that we've rafted with before, the gear at Wahoos was organized, clean and dry. The guides at Wahoos were very professional yet hilarious and made for a great overall experience! Highly recommend and will absolutely go back!! We went tubing at the New River location which was a real easy drive to get to from the Boone area. The entire atmosphere was incredible. What we thought would be tubing turned into way more fun! Arcade for the younger ones, volleyball net, frisbee golf, campsites and tree houses?! Really wish we could have stayed longer. Our family had such a great rafting trip. Our group ranged in age from 5-55 and all 7 of us loved it. Our guide, Crawford - a ginger - was helpful and accommodating and did everything to make everyone, especially our nervous five year old, comfortable. He was knowledgeable enough about the area to give us lots of tips on places to visit. The weather and the river were terrific. We did have a bit of a time finding somewhere to stay and are so glad we did. We will definitely be back! read more
