We purchased Groupon for Todd, NC location and went tubing a week ago. The reservation process was easy and I received a follow up call to confirm my reservation. The check in was an easy process with Lily. Lily checked on us during our wait to see if there was anything she could help us with...very pleasant. We did have to wait about 30 minutes past our reservation time (12noon-busiest time) to be "put in" but the facility is nice and lots to do while waiting. Our driver, Bryson, was entertaining and insightful on our ride up. Wahoo's did charge my credit card for the trip but upon check in, they processed a credit for the difference since I upgraded my tubes. We went twice and the 2nd time the wait was less than 10 minutes. The "trip" down the river was about 1.5 hours on the day we went. We had a pleasant experience and will be visiting again soon! read more

Called at the last minute during 4th of July weekend and they were able to accommodate 8 people for tubing on the New River. They are very organized & courteous and we had a blast!! They drive you to a drop off point & you tube back to your car. Their facility has rest rooms, lockers & plenty of room to hang around while waiting for your departure. Would definitely go again with this outfit. Go for the day and be sure to bring your cooler! They have tubes for them too! read more

I wasn't quiet sure what to expect since this was my first white water rafting trip. I went in a little stressed & left with the most awesome experience and wanting to raft again. I will definitely use Wahoos again. Patrick & Tomas were the main tour guides. Very informative, funny and through in instructions. Big Kudos on lunch time. Perfect lunch & perfect area to eat. The scenery was beautiful the entire trip. The entire staff was awesome!!! read more

I went here with my family for a fun afternoon of tubing in the mountains. We arrived promptly for our 2pm reservation. Parking was a nightmare. There were at least 30 cars parked on the side of the road, tires hanging off of the side into ditches. The parking available in the facility o lot allowed room for about 20 cars and they were not parked well. Huge gaps in between. There was one lady working the front desk with a line of 15-20 people waiting to check in. After we checked in, we went to the restrooms that had standing water on the floor, no toilet paper, and no sinks! One community sink in the hall...? So, we go outside and 3 or 4 young guys are standing around, some hauling tubes and people in vans. There's a crowd of people with NO idea what to do. People, we did not get into a van to head up river until 3:15 people the young man said "folks, we over booked and some people haven't even returned from their first trip down the river." WHAT. Why would you overbook knowing these people had to make reservations before arrival? Finally we are loaded into a 4/5 row van with four people on each row. Unsafe and illegal. My boyfriend was on my lap and no seat belts. Tubing was fun except for almost everyone holding a beer, drunk and cussing. Not family friendly. Would not return. Not worth $100 for 6 people. read more

I haven't been to Wahoo's in years, but decided to try to tube with them because no where else had availability. I called to ask the price of tubing, and was told by Jeff it was $20, "the lowest price on the river- find it cheaper and we'll match it". I told him never mind, that another outfitter (Rivergirl) had tubing for just $10 for students. He then rudely told me I would just need to go to Rivergirl then, and hung up the phone. Poor customer service was the last straw for me, so do yourself a favor and take your business elsewhere. read more

First, I know nothing about NC white water rafting. But my family is going to the mountains this weekend and want to raft. A friend told me you have to go to TN for rapids. But I found Wahoo adventures in Blowing Rock. I called and asked specifically "do we have to drive to TN?" The gentleman said "no." So I booked a rafting trip for my party of 6. I was told to go online for directions to the Outpost, Where I saw the outpost is in TN. By my phone app nearly 2 hours away from where we are staying. I called back to say I felt misled. The same gentleman answered my call and was very passive aggressive. He kept saying we wouldn't take a bus or van to TN, that I would park minutes away from where we would put in. He seemed unable or unwilling to understand I was interested in rafting near Boone (of course now I know there isn't such a thing). His demeanor was demeaning and aggressive, he constantly interrupted me. I shared this review on another site. Apparently this gentleman found that review, because he just called me. During that call he completely berated me, telling me I am a terrible person and should be ashamed for writing a negative review. He yelled at me for several minutes and then hung up on me. I will never patronize their establishment and would recommend, based on their customer service (or lack thereof), you look elsewhere for mountain water adventures too! read more

Let me first start this off by saying we love Wahoos and come here every year for my husband's birthday but this year was definitely not as pleasant as usual. First of all, we were told to make a reservation for our party of six so I made a reservation for us about a month in advance which only had a small hiccup (they chose the wrong date but no big deal, it was easily fixed by calling back). We got to Wahoos and some of our friends weren't there yet so I went up to the office alone to see what we needed to do since we were staying the night and they don't actually "reserve" you a camping spot- even if you make a reservation. The place was packed as usual, which is great except for there is nowhere for us to park our car and unload our things for camping because our spot isn't blocked off. THERE IS NO POINT IN MAKING A RESERVATION. Unless you want a huge headache. The lady at the front desk (Lilly Stanley) is rude to me after I tell her I don't need a wristband or waiver right now- I just need to know where we should park and put up our tent. I shake it off because she tells me to come back when my whole party is there. (Which I said from the beginning). Once everyone gets there and we go to sign our waivers and pay the rest of our bill, it is a huge confusion and she offers for me and my husband to pay for all of our friends bills so she doesn't have to separate all of our bills. I thought that was extremely rude to offer up our money but we said yes HOPING we could get the show on the road. She tells our friend to walk away because "HE" is confusing us... She tells us she's charged us more than she should and to pick something out for $10 in the store. My husband told her we didn't need anything and to just fix the mistake. After that was completed she told us $198 was charged to our card. We had already paid $125 so that is $323 guys for six people and a dog to camp, some of us to tube and some just to shuttle. She made it impossible to explain to her why we thought we were overcharged so we had to explain it to an extremely nice guide. ALL THE GUIDES ARE AMAZING AND ALWAYS ARE. This female is apparently the owner's wife- she comes downstairs on her way to leave and asks us (after our rafting trip) to come upstairs and go over our bill again. So let's pause in the middle of our trip to go over this headache again. She says she wants to fix this tonight because the main office is too busy to be bothered by us the following day. It seems that it had all been fixed minus some hiccups like her charging us extra for something we didn't get and then THREATENING TO NICKLE AND DIME US for the guides filling up our friend's tube downstairs. We have never been charged for this before and were never told this cost. We were pissed by this point. She had totally ruined our trip and buzz by being a complete and total smartass. Saying she sells 700 tubes a day and she could have easily sold ours to someone else. I'm glad we spent the money to be hassled by her intermittently during our trip. And not to mention when all is said and done, we have to message our friends how much money they owe us. Instead of them just paying for their trip at the time. I'll just say that any other year we have been, she isn't there and we also didn't make reservations and it has always gone pretty smooth. So just go and pay when you get there to avoid the confusion because making a reservation doesn't really reserve you anything. Really bad parking. Had to park on road/ grass. thought the car would tip over from having to make sure your tires is off the asphalt. If you tire touches the asphalt $150.00 fine. We had two reservations,our was fine. My niece was told that she did not pay,but she walked all the way back to get phone and showed them her email with payment on there,or she would have been billed twice. Guys driving van ok. other than walking down busy road to get to car then dealing with payment issues everything was ok. Would not go back read more

I had high hopes for this outfitter, but after arrival and dealing with the workers my experience was very quickly deflated. We were to wait for a second shuttle to take up to the put in point, once we were taken there we had no kayaks to use which we had paid for. We then waited for nearly 20 minutes alone next to the river waiting for them to come back with our kayaks. The man who delivered them took them off the trailer dropped them on the ground and expected us to take them down to the water and put them in. Every other place I've ever been to, they are more than happy to set you up in the water especially if you're new to kayaking. Then once we started to dismount and go into the water we were yelled at for not having life jackets, at which time the guide threw them at us hitting my girlfriend in the face with hers. The rest of the trip down the river was mediocre. Water is calm and lazy, wouldn't advise doing more than the short 2 hour trip not much to see. My family and I will not be going back, strictly because of customer service. read more

We booked a white water rafting trip online thinking that it was near Boone since that's what their business address states. We overlooked the drop-off location at the bottom of the page - big mistake - it should be super clear, given their business is in Boone. Turns out the trip we booked was 1.5 hrs away in TN!!! We were supposed to receive an email that explained the trip drop off location, etc; however, it never came - not even in the Spam folder. We missed the trip and they would not give us a refund!!! Instead, they offered us any service we wanted on the nearby New River. We did have a nice time floating down New River, but that is much cheaper than what we paid for. When I asked for a refund of the difference, I was told no and was given comp tickets to a show in Boone that my family was not interested in. Would not recommend it. There are too many other places nearby who, I imagine, would treat you better. read more

I never made it past the reservation because Jeff was so rude on the phone. We have always tubed with River and Earth Adventures but just for fun were going to try out Wahoos to compare. Not only was I treated rudely, but Jeff also bad mouthed Rivet and Earth Adventures which I found offensive and in poor taste. I'll stick with the competitor because the "competitor" gave us Great customer service and have far more integrity. River and Earth Adventures, you have my future business. read more

If I could give Wahoo a zero star, I would. I have a home in Todd, NC and frequently go tubing/kayaking on the New River. I decided to use Wahoo on 7/13 for a tubing trip. I reserved 3 tubes. Unfortunately, one of my friends became very ill and was not able to tube. Even after reading the disclosure of the no cancelation policy, I thought that with an illness they would refund my money. At check in, I was told I would receive a refund. Instead, the owner of the company said only a "credit" would be given to me and that I was "lucky" to get that! I am so upset because now I have to pay for a tube I didn't use because my friend was way too sick to come...not that he just "decided" he didn't want to attend. The owner had zero empathy and just shows what type of company this is. Please use Rivergirl!! They are super people and would never ever treat me this way. I should have listened to my "gut" and gone with them. They are money hungry mongers only looking to make a quick buck! Stay far far away and use RIVERGIRL!! Super cool owners!!! read more

Bought a living social deal to go tubing here, and opted to camp at their site as well. The grass on the sleeping pads at the campsite was 2 feet tall, there was one picnic table in the whole place. My favorite part was the site with the Chevy tailgate laying next to it. They charge $10 a night per person. The tubing was garbage as well. They drop you up the "river" a mile and a half, this part of the New River is about 10 feet wide, and a maximum of 6 inches deep. If you want a cheaper, far better experience check out the New River Campground in Sparta NC. Went there last year and it was a thousand times nicer! read more

My experience at Wahoo's Adventures on 8/29/2015 was very disappointing to say the least. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk. Shortly later a lady by the name of Mrs. Lilly approaches the counter to greet us. We asked to speak to the lady that we spoke to on the phone and she had no clue as to what we were talking about. We then showed her the Groupon for River Girls and she directed us in the right location. We told her that River Girls were packed to capacity but they were going to do their best to get us in. She started to hand us what looked like an ad for their company just in case we decided to come back on another day to visit their establishment. After making a 2 hour drive from our location and after trying to call River Girls back but there was no signal we just decided to stay at Wahoo's Adventure. So I then asked Mrs. Lilly if someone of my size would have any issues floating down the river? She said "Oh absolutely" and assured me and my family that I would be just fine.Fast forward, 20 minutes into our journey we were floating peacefully enjoying our time in the river until we all got stuck in the middle of the river on huge rocks. We were not moving at all! My brother-in-law, and sister had to get out of their tube to pull me because we assumed that we were just stuck on rocks but that did not seem to work because we were still stuck. We all started walking down the river for about 20-30 minutes and the water barely covered our feet. We were thinking, how in the world do they expect people to float with water levels being this low? After walking the river for a long period of time my sister and I decided to rest in the tube as her husband tried to still pull us off of the rocks and as we were resting a young lady who happened to drive by saw that we were stuck and in distress asked us if we were okay and if we would like her to go get help? We accepted her offer and thanked her for her kindness. About 15-20 minutes later one of Wahoo's drivers by the name of Ken had arrived to assist us in finding an exist point from the river. Now keep in mind that we only got to enjoy 20 minutes of floating from the time that we were dropped off until we got stuck on the rocks due to the low water levels that we were NOT informed about before they took our money and about overall 30-40 minutes of walking the river. Ken was AMAZING and of great assistance to me and my family. Being overweight I had a extremely difficult time climbing up the hill to exist the river and not one time did he complain about assisting us to safety because it truly was a hard task at hand. Finally we are safe and back at Wahoo's 2 hours later and we asked to speak to Mrs. Lilly about receiving a refund. She immediately was defensive and not open to giving us a refund. Then she offered us a refund for (One) person of $18 and a T-shirt. We asked her why she was being rude and refusing to give us a full refund considering we were only able to float 20 minutes from the time that we were dropped off. The rest of the time was spent walking on the rocks and being rescued. She said that we were gone for 2 hours so we must have enjoyed ourselves. I asked her if this is how they treat all their customers because poor customer service can negatively impact your business. After her and my sister going back and forth for a good 30-35 minutes she then offers us a 50% refund. So I gave her my Visa card so she could give us an unfair 50% refund but before doing so she decided to make a phone call to Jeff Stanley which I assume is the owner of the place. During the phone call I overhead her tell the man on the other line the we were upset due to us not being able to enjoy ourselves while tubing because of the low water levels and having to walk the river for a long period of time. Mrs. Lilly then hands the phone over to my sister for (The Owner Jeff Stanley) to speak to her about what we had experienced. Thinking that he would be understanding of the situation I assumed that he would have handled this in a more professional manner than Mrs. Lilly but so much for assuming. He was a pompous, arrogant jerk who talked to my sister in a very demeaning way. I could not hear the first half of the conversation because my sister could not find the speaker phone on their cordless phone but we did capture some of the recording and how he talked to her on the phone. Overall, Jeff Stanley told Mrs. Lilly that he did not want us to receive a refund because we prevented ourselves from having a good time and we should be mad at Mother Nature not him. At this point my sister had had enough of this clown and we did NOT want a refund because he obviously needed the money and was willing to loss good business. Word of Mouth marketing can hurt ones business especially when you have connections. We just wanted to enjoy our day and that was spoiled by this establishment that does bad business and robs customers of their money. read more

I was surprised and relieved that everything went very smoothly and professionally; it was an enjoyable day. They switched the river on us last minute to a much less interesting one. The food advertised was 'gourmet' but turned out to be cold cuts. When asked for a refund the owner offered us to go down the uneventful same river a second time. He was very defensive and told us he wasn't a liar. We won't be back - ever. My family and I went on the Nolachucky River rafting tour. Patrick was our tour guide and he was incredible. The entire staff was great, entertaining, and knowledgable about safety and the rapids. We had a wonderful time tubing the New River from their Todd, NC location. Very friendly and attentive staff. Limited wait time for shuttle on Labor Day. They even worked with us to reschedule as the prior weekends reservation looked like rain and chilly weather. Had a great time on the water with my family, however, the asian woman at the front desk was EXTREMELY rude. I overheard her telling a customer "I'm not going to argue with you do you want to ride or not" after the customers arrangements were not correct. A member of our party was charged an obscene amount more than the rest of us for bringing their own 2 tubes (in the 3 digit range). One of our reservations was made for one day but paid for the entire. The bathrooms were dirty, the trash cans were overflowing (every last one), and the parking is ridiculous. My tube deflated as soon as I started floating and had to wait for another to be dropped off. My friends started to deflate half way down the river. The river was Very shallow a little over halfway through and many of us spent most of the time pulling our entire party of 15 past the rocks just to float. May try again but probably won't as one of my family members was charged twice on the previous trip and there are plenty others to choose from. Happy Labor Day! read more

We had a wonderful time tubing on the New River. Check in at the outpost center was quick and without any glitches. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We got there about 10:45am for a 12:00pm time slot. There were no lines and they were able to take us on the next shuttle to the top of the river. So we were on the river by 11:30am! The premium tubes are worth the extra $5. The bottom and headrest were comfortable and the cooler tube was a help too. They don't have any ice at the outpost and there are limited options in Todd so fill up the cooler in Boone before you come. They do have cold drinks at the outpost and we just put the cold River water in the cooler to maintain the cold. The river is very slow and low so it is relaxing and great for families with small kids. read more

We have used Wahoo's several times in the past--and they have all been great. This past weekend we used them again and had the worst experience yet. We made reservations for our group of 10 prior to going. We arrived at 1:20 for our 1:30 appointed time. We had 3 of our own tubes and had reserved the other tubes we needed prior to showing up. Once there we waited approximately an hour and a half--all while being told that we were def on the next can out. The employees were flustered but told us several times that the issue was not having enough tubes and they were visibly upset that people were tying off the tubes and enjoying their trip down river. Once we finally got on a van and got to the drop in point we realized that they had taken several people out there but had not taken enough tubes for all the people. So there were 10-20 people just standing on the side of the road waiting for tubes. Our tubing trip that was supposed to take 2 or so hours ended up being from 1:20 until almost 6pm due to waiting. They have no issues taking everyone's money for trips, however they obviously do not have the tubes or employees to handle a busy day. We will take our business elsewhere next time. read more

This was our second tubing trip down the river in a month. We had so much fun last month, that we came back this time with our whole family, all 12 of us! We found checking in at the office on 321 to be helpful, kind and very patient with all of our questions and concerns. We enjoyed the lovely woman when we checked in on the day we went tubing. We planned our trip with Wahoo's after my first place lost our reservation. It was a very busy day but the staff was nice and we had a fun time tubing. The only issue I had, we paid for a cooler tube, which is an easier way to get into your cooler from your tube, without getting off your tube. When we got off our shuttle, the group in front of us, took all the cooler tubes and left us and our guest without one, after we pd extra for it. The guide did provide us a single person tube for our cooler but it was such an inconvenience to get into your cooler. We had to get off our tube each time we wanted in the cooler. We made it work and still enjoyed our trip, but it would have been nice to have what we pd for. Also, be prepared for NO parking but on the side of the road. We will probably come back but we will be better prepared! read more

We took a group of 13 down the Nolichucky. We had ages 8 to 60s and it was a great trip. We had 3 rafts for our group and a guide in each raft. Everyone enjoyed the trip a lot and the guides were all very good. We personally had Bert and he was great, very knowledgeable of the river and kept the adults and kids laughing the whole trip. Great whitewater but my 11 year old never had a scary moment just lots of fun. read more

first time here. parking lot is big, but it was still pretty tight to find parking. people are nice, prices reasonable, but was a little unorganized for me. I was never told what to do with the slip of paper I got after checking in and paying so I just carried on with the fam getting ready for our adventure only to find out I should have turned that in to secure our ride up the mountain. oops. that delayed us a bit but we still had fun. got back just as a huge storm came in and everyone was great about letting us hang out away from the rain. one shower and two bathrooms in main building, the wait for them was a little long since several people gathered there trying to get themselves cleaned up to leave. river itself was real calm and fun. did not like weird low bridge you had to basically swim under in order to pass, seems like it'd be way easier to just fix it instead of telling people to basically limbo under it. this is probably not business problem so not holding it against them, but would definitely encourage whoever owns it to just fix it! otherwise, overall good time and would use this company again. read more

Our family of five, including children ages 7, 10, and 12, had an incredible day rafting with Wahoo's Adventures. We drove our own car to Erwin, TN and checked in at 9:15 am. Then we took a 10 minute bus ride to the Nolichucky River which was entertaining and informative with Patrick at the wheel and Ethan giving us the necessary safety info. All of rafting guides were professional, funny, and friendly. We especially loved ours - Ethan. We knew that we were in good hands the entire 4 hour trip down the river and experienced the action of class I, II, III, and IV rapids. We ALL had an absolute blast and would strongly recommend this this company!! read more

Patrick and Bert were also friendly and knowledgable. We were running a few minutes late and they waited for us to catch the bus to the drop in. My family and I have gone here multiple times for the past four years and we loved it until today. In the past we have loved the staff and the experience. The lady we checked in with was extremely rude. My tube completely deflated and I had to walk half of the way. When my mom and I got back, nobody offered to help get out tubes out or was sympathetic or empathetic to the fact that we had a deflated tube, instead I got sass from the same girl that checked me in. This is our fourth year using Wahoo Outfitters to raft the Watagua River. Excellent customer service and fantastic experience each year. Guides are fun, professional, and polite. Short bus ride from the outpost to the area of the river where the trip begins. Our group of 11 people ranged from age 7-71. This rafting experience is enjoyable for all ages. Better late than never. We stayed here back in spring of 2014 at one of their small campsites. Apparently we were the only one's scheduled to camp. Everything was great until 11pm-midnight when some kids, guessing from App State, setup 3 campsites and partied all night. They kept us up until 4-something in the morning. We were set to stay for 2 nights but packed up and left that morning. Those kids were also packing up (around 830am, same time as us) so we knew they weren't supposed to be there. I heard other people say the same thing. We haven't and won't come back. The bathrooms/showers were nice though. read more

Went white water rafting with my fiancé and another couple this past weekend. We had a blast the moment we stepped in to the school bus that took us to the river. Our guide Thomas was amazing and extremely knowledgeable about the river and local happenings. All of the guides were witty and funny which made the adventure even better. We had many laughs and splashes during our tour and would definitely recommend this company to our friends and family. So happy we chose Wahoo! read more
