The decoration is of a living room full of antiques and that gives the place a lot of character.

Update: owner responded on Google with a nasty reply. Pretty unnecessary considering my review was…read morevery neutral. Lowering rating as a result. Screenshot attached. So it was actually a phenomenal bagel. I haven't lived in NYC for almost a year so maybe my taste buds have adapted to the lack of good bagels in London, but I'd consider the bagel to be NYC quality. Similarly, the service was akin to NYC. A bit snobby honestly. With that said, the vibe on the inside was amazing and it seemed like a great cafe for working during the day so I'll give them credit for that. The bagel was expensive - €4.50 for a bagel with cream cheese. The amount of cream cheese in the bagel was a joke. Thank god it was a good bagel because I basically ate it plain lol. And considering the price... Would I go back? I don't know, maybe? I'd probably order plain bagels and buy the cream cheese at the supermarket.

Bagel was very good, the vibe in there was very nice. However... They never brought me my bagel…read more I had ordered and I sat down with my number clearly displayed. I saw many people be served ahead of me, I saw a bagel that looked like my order be delivered to a different table. The people at that table returned the bagel, I thought the mistake would be realized and the bagel brought to me. The bagel did not arrive. I thought they might be re-making the bagel because the other table of guests had touched it. They were not remaking it. I went to ask about my bagel after 45min, the entire time I had been sitting with my number clearly displayed as instructed. They tried to blame me and my number not being visible for their mistake. I would not have been upset in this situation if they had not blamed me and lied to me about their mistake. I saw the bagel delivered to the wrong table so clearly the issue was not with my number being unfindable. Again, mistakes happen and I would not be leaving this review if not for their reaction.

What an awesome little place!! It's a little chaotic because the tables are a little cramped and…read moreall of the books can only be viewed by standing in the aisle which is also where people are walking past. But they have a pretty good selection! I went specifically for English books which I think is all they have. There was a German section though if that's what you're looking for. I didn't order any food or coffee so I can't speak on it but we went later in the evening and they still had a few cakes and stuff to choose from. They don't allow laptops on Saturday's (to save space and stop people from staying too long I assume) which is fine in my opinion. I'd definitely go back with a book or a notebook and sip on a coffee for a few hours.

Bookstores are the new hangouts. If they just had books, many people would not visit them. Now, if…read moreyou add a cafe to the bookstore, it becomes a communal hangout to eat with books. Berlin has many bookstores, but only one, Shakespeare and Sons, is located on a busy wide Strasse in the former East Berlin. You can see tables on the sidewalk with many uber-cool young people talking away, eating fresh New York bagels and coffee. The interior is dark, brooding, and narrow but comforting. We ordered breakfast bagels with coffee and sat outside with many narratives walking back and forth. The bagels are very well crafted and the shmeers and fresh tomatoes and onions are tasty. The coffees were well made. It was fun to travel there. If you are still hungry, there is a bespoke donut place next door. Highly recommend this place.
