The doctor at this urgent care gave me excellent care. Not only did they take a look at it and make sure that my injury was not severe, but they saw me very quickly, got me out of there very quickly and sent me to a nearby place to get my tetanus booster. I went to Waimea Urgent Care yesterday and had a very smooth and positive experience. The whole team with whom I interacted couldn't have been more pleasant, professional and efficient. I only had to wait about a minute to connect with the office manager who gave me simple forms to fill out. Once I did that I only had to wait about 30 seconds before I was brought into a room and the nurse was able to take care of my medical need. As it often is with being treated for a medical need, it can be a bit scary and nervous-making. THIS PLACE IS A COMPLETE SCAM, PERIOD!! GO ANYWHERE ELSE YOU CAN!! See below review In 2018 where the same thing happened to them. They are still working the same scam. They probably know they are the only urgent care clinic around. They claim they take Blue Cross but won't bill them. They take $125 from you even though I do not have a deductible. They just use this as an excuse to take your money. After 4 months I cannot get them to send or email or send an invoice to my insurance company so I can get reimbursed. Seriously, this is a one minute process to show an office visit with the 6 digit code. Without it I can't get my insurance company to reimburse me. Sadly I think they just take the money with no intention of giving you the paperwork you need. The nurse tells me they don't have the ability to look up your deductible which for me is ZERO! Yet my insurance card shows "OFFICE VISIT $0. Now they tell me they don't bill in the clinic and have to hire a billing person. It's in total BS!!! The person in charge of the clinic is Dr. Lorraine Sonoda-Fogel. She is responsible for this ripoff IMO. They just expect you to give up. They messed with the wrong person. My next step is the BBB and Hawaii chamber of commerce or whatever legal process is required. I am not letting them rip me off! read more

I was referred to Wiamea Urgent Care by a friend. I was greeted by the office person cheerfully, explained my medical problem. I was surprised to hear that the Dr. Would come outside and examine my leg wound. Dr. Cindy took a quick look, and said she would have me come inside for treatment. I filled out a brief questionnaire and medical history The nurse came outside and escorted my wife and I into a medical treatment room. Dr.Cindy promptly wrote me a prescription and had the nurse clean and wrap my wound. She gave me enough supplies to wrap it several more times with instructions for self care. The Dr. asked me to come by and have it checked in a few days. Each time the Dr. came out and checked my leg herself. She is very knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring. I normally go to Waimea Primary Care but my doctor was on holiday this week so I went to WUC because I had a terrible sinus infection and was getting on a plane that night to fly to the mainland for a wedding. First, there was a parking spot right in front...lucky for sure, but a great sign! Then, I walked up to the check-in window and someone came immediately. After filling out the forms I was asked to meet her at the door and she let me in without any wait. I sat down in the empty waiting room and a nurse came straight away to take my vitals. Within minutes the doctor (or the PA) came out and gave me a prescription and made some other suggestions about additional care and symptom relief which was great. On memorial day I wound up at Waimea Urgent Care. At 8:30 am I was met by a lovely administrator who took my information and then called me in for vitals. I met the doctor around 9:10 am and he prescribed me meds for bronchitis & nebulizer. I was out the door by 9:40 am. In February 2020, I was at an event at the Mauna Lani and had to go to this Urgent Care clinic for an infection at the base of my big toe nail. They gave me a tetanus shot and cleaned out the infection. The doctor did a quick and poor job. Even with the topical ointment that I received, the infection did not clear up. When I got back to Honolulu, I had to go to my doctor here for it. She asked if the doctor in Waimea had analyzed it and determined the type as that would also determine how to treat it. He did not. Her treatment did the trick. To underscore how terrible this place is, yesterday (1/3/2022), I got a bill for $144 from them for my portion. Almost 3 years later!! They can't even do that right! The insurance paid out on 4/30/2020. What on earth took them that long? Bad doctors, bad management. Go anywhere else but here! read more

BACK STORY: On Sunday, June 17, 2018 I took my son to Aloha Kona Urgent Care due to left ear pain. He was prescribed an ear drop. Two days later I notice a light rash on his extremities. I did not want to drive from Waikoloa to Kona on a Tuesday at 1630. So, I call Waimea Urgent Care to one: confirm that they are open and two: make sure they accept my insurance. I'm from California and have a PPO insurance. I am AWARE of any deductibles/co-pays that I am responsible for when being seen by a out-of-state doctor at a hospital/emergency room/private practice/urgent care ... Remember, I had previously taken my son to Aloha Kona Urgent Care and had ZERO CO-PAY. So, when a woman answers the phone at Waimea Urgent Care my first question is what are their hours for that day. She answers. My second question is, "do you folks take blue shield?" She tells me that they do but that there could be a deductible of $125. I told her, "Oh, I don't have a deductible." She then proceeds to tell me that there is a fee from $20 - $125 that their facility charges due to the fact that they are not associated with any of the larger insurance companies. Is she crazy?? MORAL: if you are aware of your insurance plan and any deductibles or co-pays DO NOT get suckered into paying Waimea Urgent Care any "Fees" to be seen by them on top of any fees you are responsible for from your insurance company!!! I KNOW that I have NO co-pay to be seen at an urgent care (whether in the state of California or in any other state), and I KNOW that I have NO deductible and I cannot believe this facility will tell customers that they charge a fee to be seen there! If that is the case they should not be taking patients with insurance and should be a cash only facility! I feel that this is INSURANCE FRAUD!!!!! read more

Please understand that the one star rating is not an overall review of this facility. Normally, they are pretty good. It's a reflection of their website times of operation that is full of crap and the lazy-a** Saturday crew who just simply wanted to collect their pay to 4:30 pm while doing nothing for their money. Check further reviews, this is NOT the first time this has been experienced. Very important if trying to get checked towards the end of the day, to CALL FIRST. Their closing time of 430pm is the most inaccurate information they could put out and so if you don't want to drive clear across Waimea for nothing, as the young girl at the window said, "come back at 8:30 tomorrow or go to the ER". Checked the website and it says they close at 4:30pm but the young girl at the window said they "typically check their last patients in at 3:00-3:15 and so they can be out the door by 4:15pm." Her words, not mine. I showed up at about 3:45. They were not busy at all in fact, three of them were "shooting the s**t" right by that back window, just waiting for that 4-4:15 time to roll around so they could take off. June 16 Absolutely the worst customer service ever experienced. I arrived at the urgent care facility at 6:03 PM. The signs in the window and on the door clearly stated they were open until 6:30 PM. THEIR WEBSITE SAYS THEY-ARE OPEN UNTIL 6:30 PM I was accompanying a colleague who has sustained a head injury after a fall We walked into the lobby at 6:03 PM. A young lady immediately came out of another room and told we had to leave. I told her the local hospital told us to come here for treatment. She said they were closed and would not provide any treatment. I told her my colleague had a head injury and needed to be seen. She became hostile and told us to leave immediately I told her the signs said they are open until 6:30. The front door was OPEN!! We left and went to the local hospital We could not believe that a medical facility would refuse treatment for an injury, much less accompanied by such a negative, hostile attitude This morning, the day after the incident, I called to voice my displeasure with the service. The person who answered the phone (john, refused to give last name). Said there WAS NO SUPERVISOR OR MANAGER ON DUTU WHO COULD TAKE MY CALL. He said to leave my complaint via email I have never experienced this type of unprofessional behavior , especially from a supposed "professional" medical facility!!! Dr. Fogle was extremely rude and lacking in bedside manner. My mom had a serious sinus infection and she wanted to check that it wasn't something more serious. My first negative reaction was when my mom tried to tell the doctor she had a bad gag reflex and tried to pull away from the tongue depressor and the doctor just kept pushing and pushing, disregarding the hesitation. I had questions regarding the antibiotic my mother was taking and the doctor kept speaking over me. We had a telemedicine call with a doctor back home prior to going to this urgent care visit so my questions were based on that conversation. At one point she asked if I had "any other Google questions." I was utterly appalled by the way the doctor treated my mother and reacted when I had questions. I took my son to get a doctors note to return to school after he had food poisoning and they refused to see him and said he probably has Covid and RSV so I need to take him to the ER. I recently got really sick on a Thursday evening and my regular PCP is closed on Fridays, so I decided to go to the Urgent Care in Waimea early the next morning. I was very pleased with their service from start to finish. I was seen within 1/2hr after they opened with one person ahead of me. Their nurses were very pleasant and caring and did an efficient job of doing all the pre-exams & lab work swabs. Dr Gallop was thorough and complete with his evaluation and had obviously carefully reviewed my patient history form since he knew all my pre-existing conditions. He sent me home with a prescription for antibiotics and cough mixture and said they'd have my lab results back by early the next morning. Sure enough, I got an email from the clinic showing that I was positive for COVID 19. I also got a very reassuring and detailed phone call at 7:00am within minutes of my labs being posted. Although I was pretty sick for another day, I'm convinced that their speedy treatment and diagnosis prevented me from becoming much worse off. Overall, I was very satisfied with the Urgent Care center's treatment and professionalism. Thanks to all their staff! read more

My 11 month old son had a 104 fever and these guys were in network so I gave them a call, despite the reviews. The lady on the phone was super helpful and polite. There was maybe a 30 minute wait and the doctor was super helpful and provided lots of good info, and comforting no words to worried parents. He ended up having the flu. We were in and out in about an hour. One thing to note is they charged $125 up front (which we were fine with since we had not yet met our deductible, despite not having a copay) I also could not get a clear answer on how much a visit was going to cost. Showed up at 6:05 and knocked on the door. Nobody answered but door was open. Opened the door and was immediately greeted by a very rude women saying they "were closed and we shouldn't be here". I told her the sign said they were open until 6:30 and she said. "The sign is wrong". Our driver stated it was an emergency and she said go to the ER. The irony is that the hospital told us to come here and not the ER. It is amazing how little compassion this women exhibited. Not what I was expecting from a small town in Hawaii. The ladies working in the reception they are helpful and pleasant, but the doctor looks all grumpy and in bad mood, even she kick me out of the reception with my daughters because they were playing loud, when you have a 2 and 3 years old kids not matter what you said they don't stay quiet, but she didn't care, she ask me twice to leave... I've been on this island for 6 days. Prior to that I was on Maui for 10 days. I leave to go home tomorrow on a 12 hour flight. After snorkeling all day yesterday I noticed the water I got in my ear wasn't draining. I'm prone to wax buildup so I'm familiar with the concept that this can quickly result in an ear infection. By this morning I couldn't hear out of one ear and the pain was radiating down my neck. Not wanting to fly with a painful ear I drove 30 mins from our hotel to this urgent care being that It was the closest one aside from another but this one opened at 8 and the other didn't open until 10. Covid protocols made the wait a bit more lengthy but I was still seen within an hour with several people ahead of me. They did not take my insurance which Isn't unusual so I paid the copay understanding that if I needed any extra procedure done it would cost more. Turns out both my ears had total wax blockages so they irrigated them both, and both ears had pretty extensive infections. I paid for the irrigation and the woman gave me a form to submit to my insurance to see if they would reimburse me. I left with the ability to hear and two prescriptions for the infections. The nurse and front desk woman were very kind and the NP was nice and made sure I understood her instructions. Would definitely recommend. read more

A mixed review for a mixed experience. I arrived with what felt like a sinus and ear infection. The receptionist was helpful and pleasant. There were ~ 4 others ahead of me so waited about an hour to be seen. That seemed reasonable for walk-in care. The wait in the exam room was another 20+minutes - that seemed a bit long but again, was grateful to see a Dr for the problem. The Dr was unfriendly, even critical, from the moment she walked in, which I didn't understand why. In the end, I got an Rx for antibiotics which made a huge difference in just a few days. I'm entirely grateful that there was an urgent care clinic available, that the receptionist was kind, that I had "good insurance" with a minor copay and especially appreciative for the antibiotics. I don't know why the Dr felt it necessary to be unpleasant to someone she's never met before. Overall, the positives outweighed the negative. Mahalo for the antibiotics. read more

Came here for an ear infection on a weekend while visiting the island. This place showed up inside of my network in my healthcare from the US and it's PPO. They still asked to charge $125 dollars for them to see me, and asked me to leave since it was lunch time and they will call me back. Once their figured out the issue and fixed it, the doctor was very nice. I saw they charged my insurance for the service within 15 days and my insurance approved the charge right away with my co-pay being $50. This was in 06/01/2018, and they got paid 06/27/2018. I've been trying to reach out their billing dept. since August see if I can get my refund after my co-pay. They have not called me back, even after calling them at least once a month. They always say the billing dept. woman is not there, and it's against their policy to tell me when she will be there. I am looking at other options, maybe reaching out to my healthcare or credit card company since this business is very shady and does not care about anything other than money. read more

Does Quality Medical Care In Kamuela Exist? January 7, 2012 Kamuela, Big Island of Hawaii Recently, my partner and I were back home (Big Island) visiting relatives in Kamuela (Waimea), Hawaii. While staying there we were in need of a physician and since our Hawaii based doctor was not available we made a choice to go to a "no appointment necessary" medical clinic. My partner ( both of us are native to the islands) needed attention for his high blood pressure. He had run short of blood pressure medication and did not realize it would seriously jeopardize his health; he had migraine like symptoms and shortness of breath which were signs of a potential stroke or heart attack. When we both proceeded into the office of the practicing physician (and owner of the clinic) eventually we were made to realize that in her own words she suggested that she liked taking care of local people. Which would have been honorable and fair except that she then proceeded to point out that, "I was just like one haole" when I asked a question about habits which may contribute to his high blood pressure. I was concerned and I wanted to understand what we as a team needed to do to help with his health issues. First and foremost - all people deserve to be treated with respect when they go to a doctor for professional services. The color of one's skin should not indicate a judgment about who is local and who is not. The myth that a fair skinned person is not local is a sign of ignorance and insensitivity to the fact that everyone has feelings and we are each co-habitants of the same planet. This doctor's assumptions about who was local and who was not is an unfortunate reminder of my youth and that a few still hold onto old beliefs in regard to race relations in Hawaii. As a professional medical doctor (obvious that she is a native of some indigenous culture) if she would have investigated closer to our situation - it is due to my recommendation that my partner (appearance is local) actually is in her office for treatment. He tends to avoid going to the doctor whenever possible. I encourage and support him in this way by making appointments and by making sure he follows up on his medical issues. If this is considered "haole" then so be it. He is still alive because if it! And with further investigation she would have discovered that I am a fair skinned native Hawaiian. She would have then held her tongue and not have said to me, "just like a haole" when I made a statement about my partner's inability to take responsibility for his own health therefore that his health was also of my concern since we live together. If you decide to seek medical attention please make sure to don your "native color" face paint, wear rubbah slippahs, speak pigeon english and continue to perpetuate the myth that Hawaiian's and native peoples in the the islands act and look a certain way - according to this medical professional's personal belief system. If not illegal, may we suggest that she open a Native People's Only Clinic? Perhaps we can return to the days of the American South when ignorance (don't confuse with intelligence) was perpetuated by whites who insisted that people of color could not sit on the bus with the whites. Or were not allowed into establishments because of the color of their skin. Do we want to stay in that era or do we want to begin a new dialogue, people? WOW. If you are up for a truly horrifying experience, good luck to you should you choose to go to this Urgent Care vs. ER at the hospital. The receptionist and nurse were top notch, kudos to them for not quitting. Dr. Vogel, however, referred to me as 'You People' when I asked if I had done something to upset her because she was clearly quite upset (was my issue not Urgent-Care-Worthy? I have not been able to hear out of an ear for 12 days, personally I thought that warranted a check, perhaps something is really wrong? I don't know, I'm not a doctor), rude ("I WENT to medical school!" though I had not questioned that, why would I?) and belittling (so many examples, I won't bother providing examples), and she refused to let me speak (while addressing an issue that was not actually related to my visit). She treated with such a high level of disrespect, it is quite clear this Dr. has reached the stage of burnout- and, as a frontline worker after several years of covid, I absolutely get it, I really do- but- take a day off, a week off- regroup, take a spa wellness day, and decide if you want to continue on this career path, because holy cow, anyone who treats people this way should not be in the medical field where 'technically' you should be nurturing, empathetic, and a good listener.
