What a beautiful experience. This was my first time riding horses at WOH. The team was so nice and informative on the ride. It was a group of 8, the horses definitely have their own personalities, and you could see it very well while on the trail. Some liked to be up ahead, while others wanted to eat or stay in the back. One wrangler is always in the front and one in the back and never rushed those that took a bit longer. The horses are well trained, which is nice for those who are not horse riders or are a bit hesitant. The views are amazing, breath taking, and calming. There are wild horses and cows iron property. We even got to see calves and colts with their parent(s). I highly recommend this. read more

I got this amazing trail ride experience for my 19 year old granddaughter and she said this was her favorite experience while we stayed in Kona, HI. It was interesting for her and the guide was great, she told me. Sorry, no photos but, my granddaughter told me that her ride was quite beautiful and her horse was well-behaved and capable. The good- It was a beautiful ride with beautiful weather. We also got to see some cattle and wild horses. The bad- We weren't offered to try any of their local fruits. We were directed after the ride to go to the fruit stand next door. Also the email directions to ride states that we are able to bring water and snacks for before or after the ride. So we went and picked up sandwiches for 4 ppl and some waters in town. When we got there the tour guide said to leave them for after the ride. We left them on the chair in the check in area in a reusable back. After the ride we went to grab our sandwiches only to find that they were eaten by a dog or cat. I wish you would have designated area or cooler for guests to leave their food or snacks. Or if we would have known we could have left them in the car. read more

What an amazing experience! I took my three kids (18, 11 and 10) and all of us gave it 10/10. A friend had recommended this excursion to us, but I didn't completely read up on it or have any preset expectations. After an hour long drive from our hotel through beautiful greenery and mountains we arrived. We were greeted by Patricia, our beautiful and wonderful host. We were lucky to have her ourselves. She has a keen ability to pick the perfect horse for each person. She was an informative guide, horse expert and most importantly, a patient and kind soul. We all loved her and the experience. I feel like we all learned so much about the land, its history, its animals and fruits. We got to try some amazing guava, apple bananas and mango. We saw wild horses, a few days' old calf with several other cows and some of the most beautiful land that I've ever seen. It was my favorite thing about the trip. Horseback at this 700+acre ranch is the best way to see Hawai'i as the gem it is. Our Guide ( Kapo'a ) was fun, professional and welcoming in every way . He knew the horses like the old friends they are. He explained so many aspects of the ranch, flora, wildlife and how they worked together. We gently rode thru meadows that had wild horses roaming, or goats, or several species of cattle. No creature cared that we were in their midst. We saw wild mongooses skitter across our trail and rode thru working coconut, star fruit, banana, papaya, mango groves, each more impressive than the last. My wife and I did the Sunset ride at 4:30pm in August. Patricia was an Excellent guide throughout the tour of the farm to see all the variety of plants, trees, and fruits. She shared all kinds of background stories and history with us which was very cool. She took great photos of us overlooking the ocean and the great property. Best pictures from our trip. The Waipio valley is closed now, so the ride we had was up the mountain and through the WOH ranch. Our guide was great. He knew all the fruits and trees on the property. The views were wonderful. We also got to see the wild horses. They all looked so healthy. The horses used on the ranch are from the wild stock. When they are old enough they bring them in to train them. They don't "break" them they do it in a more kind way. When the horses are showing signs that they are having trouble they are retired back to the wild. This ranch was extremely large and beautiful. The service was excellent and our two guides were very informative. The horses seem well taken care of and each of them have their own personalities which you may see on your ride. I got to ride with Dexter who was the baby of the group, he was absolutely adorable. The views along the way were spectacular & we got to try to fruits like strawberry guava and passionfruit. At the end, they offered some fruits they grew themselves & the avocados are delicious and creamy!! Definitely recommend for families and first-timers. read more

Waipi'o Valley was closed when we visited the island, so our family of four experienced the WOH ranch ride instead. The landscape was gorgeous! And the guides were friendly, knowledgable and conscientious about safety. We were able to ride amongst cattle, wild horses (one of them even "joined our tour" for a bit, which was amazing!) and serene tilapia fish ponds. Along the way our guides educated us about the flora and fauna and even picked wild berries for us to taste. At the end of the ride we enjoyed a delicious snack of fresh fruits and local honey. Extra bonus was playing with the ranch's two friendly pigs on our way out. I would highly recommend this tour! My husband and I did the 9:30am three-hour horseback ride tour today and had a great time! We showed up to the meeting location about 15 minutes beforehand, signed a waiver and started the tour shortly after that! The couple who guided our tour were super sweet and friendly. There were about 7 other people on our tour. They give you the option for helmets and also had some bug spray to borrow if we needed it (although I found that we didn't need it at all--just wear long pants, close-toed shoes and long sleeves). We all loaded up in the van and it was about a 30-minute van ride down into the valley where we began our horseback ride. It was definitely a bumpy ride down into the valley! We drove down the steepest paved road in the United States to get there! Cecil was super knowledgeable about the land and told us so many interesting facts! Once at the riding spot, they pair you up with a horse and show you a quick demonstration on how to ride the horse. Shortly after that, we set out for our hour and 30 minute ride through the valley. The ride was just amazing and the scenery was spectacular. The horses take you through an amazing trail on the valley floor, through creeks and streams with beautiful views of the land and tall waterfalls. About half way through, you turn around and go back the way you came and they took us to an area at the end that was a little closer to a super tall waterfall. Cecil was super nice and allowed us to stop in a couple of places and he took our pictures. At the end, we all boarded the van again and it was about another 30 minute ride up the steep paved road back to the meeting place. When we got back the tour was over. Cecil was very nice and offered everyone some fresh apple bananas. We had a fantastic time and I highly recommend this tour! It was such a great experience for us--we loved it! Great tour guides who are passionate and knowledgeable of the land, fair prices, spectacular views, and super fun riding the horses! read more

Amazing. We went to see Waipio Valley and quickly found out it was still closed to even foot traffic. The views from the lookout were still breathtaking though. However, after driving 1.5 hours to get there, we didn't want our day to be over. We called to see if we could get in for some horseback riding. Deja quickly answered the phone and manged to arrange a ride for us within an hour. Micah was a phenomenal, knowledgeable, amicable and gregarious local guide. He encouraged us to have their homegrown bananas to eat and feed to the horses. Gave a quick briefing, sized us to our horses, and off we went. They have a 600 acre ranch with many kinds of animals and every kind of fruit you can imagine. Our horses each had their very own personality which made the ride very enjoyable. Micah told us about the history of the ranch, each of the fruit trees and about the various animals on the ranch. We even got to try a few exotic fruits. Many amazing views of the mountains, the ocean and even Maui. Like all the other locals we have met here on the Big Island, everyone on the ranch were super nice to us. Mika was a great instructor. It was my first time riding a horse along with my friend so we were quite inexperienced overall but he was very attentive & helpful. During the trip I actually lost my belongings 2x & he was really kind in offering to go back to look for them when he didn't have to. He was also very calm during the entire trip & took every problem as it is & just came up with a solution for it. We also got try a tons of fresh exotic fruits throughout the way & he even offered some to take home, which was additional bonus . Overall, my friend and I had a great time for our first horse backriding experience & I would highly recommended booking this place if you are interested in horse backriding in Kona ! Side story: My horse Tanaka got spooked during the way. He saw something in the bush & basically started galloping at neck breaking speed. Thankfully after the momentary brain freeze, I remember the instructions from Mika & snapped out out it & successfully stopped Tanaka before anything bad occurred. The most beautiful trail ride, ever! The scenery on the trail is unbeatable. We rode up and down gentle grass-covered slopes and through trees on this working ranch. At the top of the hill, we had a view of the Pacific Ocean below. Along the way, we passed plenty of cattle, some with young calves. We saw a few sheep and one newly born colt with mom and dad nearby. I love this family-owned and run farm. Their horses are healthy and well-behaved. Our guides Micha and Alex took good care of our group. Micha shared the history of his family's farm as well as ongoing projects such as heirloom fruit cultivation. An added bonus was tasting several varieties of fruit which are not generally available in grocery stores. This was a full two-hour tour at a good price. Highly recommended! read more

Such a great day to see the Waipi'o Valley. Thanks Micha and Etha. Parking and directions to the WOH were easy to find. They had lots of porta potties. The ride in the van: open air van, lots of airflow and masks on. This was my first horse ride not in a pen. It was a beautiful but slow horse ride, definitely great for beginners. The guides are great. Totally worth the 3 hour tour to see so much of the valley from the ground instead of hiking the hill and dodging cars.
