Christmas is among us and there are a few days left. Walgreens is the last resort where someone goes to pick up a last minute stocking stuffer. This Walgreens has served as a last minute place to pick up something when all things are closed and you forget someone's gift for the occasion ( example getting that gift card). They have lots of items throughout the year for almost any holiday. There are lots of items locked up. This is one of the better Walgreens to go to in San Francisco. HORRIBLE wait times at the pharmacy where the line wraps around the store. Only 1 person working the register while everyone else is filling prescriptions. Horrible wait times at the store checkout too because there's only ONE cashier. HORRIBLE wait times on the phone for the pharmacy as well. Convenient- open until 10pm. When many CVS & Walgreens locations are calling it quits, this location is thriving. It's up on top of Diamond Heights, so there's a feeling of small town safety. Sadly, they are not immune to crime, as this morning a shoplifter attacked a clerk. He managed to evade the police. Sigh. At least nobody was shot. Regardless, I would give this store a 4star for providing a service to the community. Especially important is having a pharmacy, and there was no line on a Wednesday afternoon. I cannot believe this Walgreens location does not sell Clipper cards, monthly Muni-Bart passes & cash value for Clipper. Their excuse is due to "outdated equipment" that won't allow them to use new equipment that requires wifi connection. The 52 Excelsior bus runs along Diamond Heights Blvd and this location does not sell Clipper passes and cash value? Folks who want and need to avail these services are required to go to a different Walgreens location such as Mission & 30th Street or West Portal. This is absurd. read more

I've been going to this Walgreens for 20 years. The service and care you get is highly dependent on the Pharmacist on duty. For example, while Jen is knowledgeable and on point, the Pharmacist on Sunday is a hazard to avoid (don't know his name but he is grey haired and speaks only rudimentary English). This guy and his staff appear confused, do not use words to communicate message, and are rude bordering on dangerous. For example, I was given the wrong dosage of my medication. They gave me a too high dosage. Yep, dangerous. Expect to wait a long time when you pick up or drop off, and make sure to check your prescription for accuracy. I'd like to go to a different pharmacy, but at least this one has parking and they allow my little dog to come it. Customer beware! read more

Don't expect your Rx to be ready on time. They're often behind and will tell you they're understaffed. Expect it to get worse with the Walgreens closures throughout SF. Hopefully; the company will beef up staffing at the stores that remain open. read more

I know this is a first-world problem, but few things irritate me quite as much as the blank stares from the check-out counter ladies when the software doesn't give me the $1.50 paper towel discount. When I show them my phone, so that they too can fumble through the miserable Walgreens app, they also fail to find the coupon to "clip". Then I get told I need to stand outside for the software to work. This is while standing at the counter, with other customers waiting to check out. Even the store manager makes a big deal of playing with the phone to try to clip the coupon. You'd think to avoid embarrassment she would just key in the discount, but you'd be wrong. The few things to recommend about this store include cheap paper towels, facial tissue, and teepee, particularly when compared to prices at the Safeway next door. Plus there are periodic savings on chocolates, but be sure to read the fine print on the yellow sale tags, as they often try to fool you into buying two to get the third one at reduced price. They seem to have problems with break-ins, as the door has been smashed in. Toughs sometimes come in during the day to help themselves to the merchandise, and then walk out without paying. read more

It takes a lot to get me to write a bad review, but I have to do it in this case because this is truly a terrible pharmacy. To start, the hold times are excessive, from 30 minutes to multiple hours to just ask a simple question. I live about three blocks away, so I could literally walk over and ask the pharmacist a question faster than making a phone call. I've done this, so they must be ignoring the phone lines. The auto-refill system is then completely broken. I have multiple prescriptions that I have enrolled in this program that fail with a "please contact the pharmacy" issue. Which then means I have to brave the aforementioned terrible phone system to request a prescription. To top it all off, the pharmacy staff have just started completely gaslighting me. When I've asked them to look into the auto-refill issue, they've said multiple times that refills should go through next time (they haven't). When I've told them that there appears to be an issue with their systems, they say that there isn't and then hang up the phone. Don't use this pharmacy. I should've read the reviews prior to using it. It's a huge regret of mine. read more

This Walgreen's is not perfect - it's difficult to get through to the pharmacy on the phone, and pharmacy lines are occasionally long - but it's generally very good. We are refugees from the Walgreen's on 24th and Castro, where they are outright mean to you at times. This Walgreen's is WAY better. We've been coming here for a couple of years now. Jen (pharmacist) is especially excellent. She knew my name after I had come into the store a couple of times. Always a smile and some nice conversation if she's not super busy. The staff in the pharmacy is good, too, and it feels like it's gotten better lately. They often handle long lines reasonably quickly. I received exceptional customer service today which prompted my writing this review. We had ordered Christmas cards a few days earlier, and some of the envelopes (printed with return addresses) were destroyed due to a roof leak in our place. We came in and asked if they could sell us the number of plain envelopes that had gotten damaged. Not only did they take the time to print the return address on the envelopes as per our original order, they wouldn't take a cent for them. At least some of the staff at this store understands customer service. As a customer, I sure appreciate it. read more

This Walgreens is a blight on the neighborhood. The manager is just indescribable, the policies are usurious (cannot return an online order with receipt and instructions to return at store), the staff are unhappy and don't care. I cannot wait for Walgreens to move out. read more

I went the other day to pick up some meds... as I walked out, smacked the hell out of my elbow on that door of death again. Next time I go I think I'll ask the manager to have it looked at. Today's experience was typical for me at this Walgreens: I ordered a prescription refill online. 24 hours later, I received a text saying "No refills remaining. Text RENEW to have us contact your doctor for approval. Why did that take 24 hours? In any case, I replied, "RENEW" and got a response text: "This prescription can not be renewed online. Call the pharmacy for more information." I called the pharmacy, and after 15 minutes on hold, hearing the message "There is one call ahead of you," it was clear that the pharmacist was not answering the phone. So, I will have to go in to the store and wait in line to find out what the problem is. What a PITA read more

The typical long wait times when calling in (30 mins to 1+ hr), even when the system tells you that you are first in line, is frustrating enough. However, it is the rudeness and being hung up on after waiting so long is worse. I suspect they think the matter has been handled on their end, but since they just hung up and did not confirm, one is left wondering. And if you are like me and want to close the loop, you have to either go in, in person, or wait again for 30+ mins. Two rude hang ups in one day after long waits today has me switching to another pharmacy. It has to be done. read more

This location has gone way downhill in the past few months. Completely undependable pharmacy hours. Checked out employees, and hand written "out to lunch" signs during posted hours. If they actually are open, expect to a wait a ridiculously long time for your prescription...if they even have stock of your medication. Review is based on several recent visits. I love this location for one main reason... it's a FED EX authorized hub that you can drop off and pick up parcels. If not for that one aspect, and if looking for a Fed Ex location, you'd have to drive miles inconveniently. This services the local residential neighborhood perfectly. Sat on hold on the phone for nearly two hours to see if prescription was received As nothing was showing online at 3 pm and it had been put in in the morning. Doctors office also called and waited 25 minutes on hold on their dedicated line. Pharmacist finally answered and said would be ready in an hour. Showed up two hours later and line ten people deep. Waited and no prescription ready. Woman Pharmacist had time to accept a gift of ballons and take a person out of line who wanted to discuss symptom reactions. Really, while ten others are waiting in Line?! This pharmacy has gone way downhill. No customer service. If you are ill, the last thing you want to do is wait in a long line. read more

I hate this pharmacy with a passion (I need to find a new one but pure laziness has been stopping me up until recently). 50% of the time when I request a prescription by mail via the app it doesn't get sent out. Yes, I downloaded the app just to avoid interacting with their phone tree or going in-person (more on that in a sec). Currently my prescription has been marked as "ready for FedEx" for about 4 days. I call the pharmacy to check on it and am on hold, even though the phone tree tells me I'm second in line, for about 30 minutes. After 30 minutes I'm sent through, the line rings, and I'm disconnected (this is the 4th or 5th time this has happened). I call again. The process repeats and I am again disconnected. It wouldn't be a big deal to go in-person if the lines didn't take 30 minutes themselves. The pharmacy always seems severely understaffed and SUPER grumpy (I get it, I would be too if I had to work at this location). The line usually wraps around the store when I go at random times during the work day. The number of times that I have ranted to family and friends about this Walgreens location has become a running joke. And it is 100% on me because I keep avoiding finding a new pharmacy. But today I'm breaking free of my shackles. No more Walgreens on Diamond Heights. No more. read more

Pharmacy appointments are useless. Lines are long. They are overbooked and overwhelmed. At least two people are scheduled for vaccination at the same time. There is a QR code to check in for the appointment but the sign below it says that you still have to notify the pharmacy staff that you checked in online so what's the point? My mom's appointment was for 9:40. We arrived 15 minutes early as instructed. Checked in online and notified staff as instructed. The people who checked in with staff got their shots and left while we were still waiting. They finally called my mom to take her insurance information at 9:56. At 10:21 she got her shot. Part of the delay was due to her wanting the regular vaccine instead of the senior. The nurse was excellent. Go to CVS. read more

The pharmacy is understaffed. There are often long lines of people who are ordering or picking up their medications. The store has a terrible shoplifting problem. Once I witnessed a group of thieves robbing the store just as I walking into the store and got shoved out of their way by on of the shoplifters. Someone has to do something to protect the customers. read more

Five employees on duty on a Friday noon. Three of them surrounding a photo machine, leaving the cashier line unattended because a woman in the photo department asked about some usb drive. I had to chase down multiple workers around to store in which the responses were " I don't have the cashier key, look for someone in front" You don't think I tried? I love this Walgreens because the head pharmacist Steve goes out of his way with your insurance. cuz its really hard nowadays to get your meds needles if your diabetic. One of the few Walgreens that will take back your red box full of diabetes needles, and then they give you a brand new one that is (FREE!)so you have a place to discard them. read more

I've used this place for over five years, and it's really gotten bad recently. Any time you pick something up, the line is 10-20 minutes long. It's impossible to reach anyone on the phone -- easily a 30 minute hold time. They just need to hire more people. Maybe this is (post)-pandemic related; I don't know. But even though they know me by name at this point, I'm going to switch to somewhere else. It's far too stressful to rely on them for medications I need every month. They just can't be trusted anymore. read more

This review is for the pharmacy only. The app says my medication was shipped 3 days ago via Fedex (1-2 days) but when I called the pharmacy, the packages were still there. I had to rush through and pick them up at the store. Walgreens need to improve their service. There is always a long line to pick up medications. 1 hour waiting is typical. Not cool. read more

Been picking up my prescriptions at this Walgreens for years. It is hit and miss as to how many people will be in line ahead of you or how many employees are working the front counter. The lines are longer now since they are also checking people in and then providing vaccinations to customers. The downside is they ask you to check in and complete forms by scanning on their screen near the counter, but the wi-fi is so bad that the screen does not open. The saving grace here is a wonderful employee JEN. She makes you feel welcome with a wave and smile, she is quick and efficient, she knows the business, empathetic and truly a nice person. You are the best JEN. Also, if you try to call here, the phone wait can be extremely long and after a certain amount of time you are kicked out of the system. Be prepared to wait in line and on the phone. After your loooooong wait, go next door to Creightons and buy a nicely prepared cup of coffee or a sandwich. It will calm you down. Phew. Free parking at least. Walgreens, upgrade and fix the wi-fi, have two persons always working the counter and faster phone service. Can also Door Dash (for a fee) most prescriptions and save the trip and wait in line. read more

The head Pharmacist left awhile ago and now the photo of the new one is not there, I suspect because he doesn't want anyone to know because this pharmacy has virtually gone to the dogs in the past few months. Prescriptions that I have been getting for years are suddenly not available, they will have to get some. Long lines. Now closed at 5pm on Saturday and got there today at 1:30 and it was closed as the hand scribbled note said until 2:40. If this keeps up, I'll check out CVS. Seriously folks, the people on the window are very nice but the "back room" is a mess. read more

This place is a wreck. Expect a line of 5-10 people at the Pharmacy window at all hours. Prescriptions not ready on schedule, phantom refill orders placed that you'll need to cancel, and never, ever, ever anyone to answer the phone. There were three Walgreens close to me a year ago - now only this one - and it's clearly straining under the demand of serving too large an area. I've moved my prescription to an online pharmacist that will deliver meds to me same day and I'll limit my visits here to Nov 1st Halloween candy purchaces and the like. read more

Even though location is convenient, all the going back an forth to multiple times due to errors is a waste of my time. They can't fill prescriptions. If you call them, they will place you on hold for 20 minutes before hanging up without speaking to you. If you call to complain to the "store manager," they will say they can "only transfer you to the pharmacy," after which you will hear a recording that "the number you have dialed has been disconnected." If you call the corporate number, they will lie to you and say that someone will call you back...they won't. If you write to them, they will not respond. It took me 6+ phone calls, and two weeks from start to finish, to get two prescriptions delivered while I was recovering from a broken ankle. Now that I finally received them, I will transfer my prescriptions to CVS and hope they do better than this abismal excuse for a pharmacy. read more

I've been nursing a cold for the last 3 days now. I think I'm on the tail end of it. Shoot. I ran out of tissue. The one that has lotion in it so my poor nose is not rubbed raw. I normally go to Tarjay for my toiletries and such items, but the nearest one is in Daly City! So, I ended up here. I'm glad that the prices are not too jacked up. Especially if I'm just buying tissue paper. I found my kleenex with lotion, 192, two-ply tissue in a box for $1.59 plus tax. I'm paying at the cashier. I was just given the "once-over" stare. No hi or hello even. Just a forced "thanks for choosing Walgreens" Margaret C. was the cashier's name. Heck, is that even her real name tag? her mood surely matched the weather outside: "GLOOMY" Next time, I'm getting my tissue at Safeway next door. read more

Pharmacy staff is unhelpful and really just doesn't care about filling prescriptions in a reasonable number of *days*. Forget it if you need something on an emergency basis. They refuse to provide information about needed medication or actually provide false information about order and arrival time to make themselves look better. read more

I am writing this review for Jen in the pharmacy. I thought I was getting the good treatment because I was special. Turns out everybody else gets this treatment Jen goes completely out of her way to make sure your medication is right and goes that extra mile to make sure each and every person leaves either with a smile, or satisfied.
