Review for the online order pickup. Since I was going to be in the area, I place an online order for pickup at this store. Though they have a parking lot at the corner of Arguello and Geary, I was able to find a parking space out front. They had a worker standing near the entrance and I asked him about online pickups and he directed me to the cashier's line. There was no one in line with one person at the cashiers. After a brief wait, I gave my name to the cashier for my pickup order and he retrieved it from the shelf and handed it to me and I was on my way. The online order process and pickup from the store was smooth and easy.

The Notice from the California Department of Public Health

I am giving this 5 star rating mainly for the pharmacist, Jacqueline! However, I have been going this CVS for my parents the last few years, the staff at this pharmacy are always hardworking, polite and efficient and they certainly deserve 4+ stars. My parents both are in their 90's, start having a lot of health issues. Both have gotten COVID and ended up at the hospitals a few times. Recently, my mom got COVID again. The COVID lasted more than 2 weeks and finally ended up at the hospital for a few days. We have been buying the COVID test kits. One of my sisters told me to find out if there's anyway to get any free test kits since my parents are both Medi Cal recipients. I did some research and found out that, effective July of this year, Medi Cal patients are able to get 8 free COVID test kits every month - at least until September of this year. My guess is the surging COVID! I took the attached Notice from the California Department of Public Health to the Castro Valley CVS Pharmacy Department and spoke to one of the pharmacists. He gave me an attitude and told me that they simply didn't have any in the inventory to give and did not even look at the notice I had. My sister looked up on her computer and did find that there were test kits at their Castro Valley CVS. So, I assume that either the pharmacist did not want to help (more than likely - judging from his angry voice) or their inventory on the computer was wrong. Either way, his attitude was unacceptable since I did nothing wrong and it is his job to act professionally to help, shouldn't this be basic professionalism? I did not give up, I took the attached to this CVS in San Francisco, across the street from my parents' place and showed it to one of the pharmacists, Jacqueline. This time, I even yellow high lighted the relevant sentence so that it would save the pharmacist's time to read - did not want to get "yelled at" again! Surprisingly, Jacqueline was very professional and polite. I could tell that she was quite busy but she was kind enough to take a look at my notice and did some research on her computer. Within a minute, she told me that she checked the insurance and it went through. So she told me that she would need about 10 minutes to get both my parents 8 test kits each. Jacqueline was not only helpful, she acted professionally and efficiently. I got the test kits in 10 minutes. It was like day and night when compare her with the pharmacist at the Castro Valley CVS!

Since it was across the street from the hospital, we knew that the location was used for servicing out-patient clients. This fall the Davies pharmacy said they were closing/relocating and would transfer our meds to the Walgreen's Diamond Heights location. We stayed with the Diamond Heights Walgreen's until their pharmacy person answering the phone became inpatient with my questions about dosage and hung up on me. That was the final straw, especially since I had been waiting in the phone queue for more than fifteen minutes! We needed a new, full-service pharmacy with pleasant, friendly staff. Thank you Walgreens for your impatience and forcing us out the door. We wanted our new pharmacy to be full-service and have staff who are not burned out from the grind of the industry. Since our primary is at UCSF, we transferred our meds and have no regrets. Due to major construction on Parnassus, the parking can be challenging. We have used the free delivery option at those times when necessary. One of the best parts of picking up our meds is that there's no long lines of people waiting to be next.

Ridiculous customer experience that is frustrating and feels like you're in a prison or sterile lab where you can't touch anything and actually shop. I ended up spending way less than I would have because I don't want to ask them to come unlock every time I want candy or toilet paper. Staff was helpful and pharmacy has been good when needed, but what a bizarre and dystopian shopping experience.

CVS is very UNDEPENDABLE and not worth the one star that I had to give it…read more CVS dropped a prescription twice and now I will be paying more for prescriptions because CVS is my insurance company's 'preferred provider'. On a Thursday, I asked for a prescription refill and got an email acknowledgement that day. On each of the following Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday I got texts saying it was out of stock and should be in soon. On Friday I went online to check and the order had disappeared and it said that I was able to refill the prescription. When I called the pharmacy, they offered no explanation and started the process again for me. By Saturday, that order had also reverted to 'ready for a refill', so the next Monday, I had my doctor send the prescription to another pharmacy where I was able to pick it up three days later after that pharmacy had actually ordered the med. This was not actually the first time that CVS has just dropped a prescription without telling me. So, now, CVS is not the preferred pharmacy for me but the one that I cannot even trust with my prescriptions. This is all a reflection on CVS and not at the people who work at the Portola store
