Service is very friendly here. It's the historical restaurant to go to in Southampton, as there's only a handful of places to eat at. The inside of the restaurant is also nice with historical touches to it. The building is very beautiful and you can learn all about the Shirley of the building and family in the menu. Unfortunately the food is mediocre, verging on bad. We've tried this place 3 times to give it a fair shot as we really wanted to like it but I don't think we will return. - pasta : over sauced; the pasta I had with balls of cheese was warm with cold balls of cheese. Kids has jarred tomatoe sauce on pasta. - fish and chips- if you're looking for that nice light crunch with a crispy light coating- don't go here. It was soggy, and meh; coleslaw tasteless; fries on the verge of burnt. How you get fries wrong, who knows. - beef wrap - very saucy inside, - chicken curry - very salty, tasted like it was from a jar; the rice was underdone, I don't know how it's possible to not cook rice properly in a restaurant but this place did it. Coriander garnish was wilted and old, why bother even putting it on? Naan bread very crispy on one side. - ceaser drink was ok. Basic. - hamburger - tasted fine. Again, I think the service was friendly and the restaurant is nice but they dropped the ball on the food and are likely capitalizing on the history of the building rather than the food. read more

Busy in the restaurant as it was a Thursday, car show day. The main special was ribs but was sold out well before by 6:00 PM we were informed. So, one chose chose a burger as there were no ribs which they said was overcooked. Two people had salmon which they commented was missing the orange glaze on both and overcooked. The best thing they thought were the veggies. Finally one person had the chicken fettuccine. There were so few of the sauteed peppers, onions and mushrooms it was hard to find them. Just bland. Most of us enjoyed our food but my sister got French onion soup, it was sautéed onions in boxed beef broth we think, (no wine base) no body no flavour with a teaspoon of cheese on croutons not crusted baked cheese on toasted French bread as per real onion soup. Went there for dinner last Thursday. My first time here. The menu has so many great items on it, I am willing to bet if you make it here once, you will be back. Plenty of great food options available. For today, I started my experience with the Mushroom cap escargots. The dish was perfectly prepared with the mushroom and escargot perfectly cooked with melted cheese over top. It was amazing! For my main, I chose the spicy pickerel. I had it served with fries and a side Caesar salad. Perfectly crusted and spices pickerel, well done fries and ... the Caesar deserves special mention. I don't know what's all in the dressing, but one sure it is plentiful propelled by, is the garlic!! Just the way I LOVE it!! Speaking about Covid times, this place has everything in place. All areas are super clean, plenty of social distancing even inside and top notch team to run it. The only thing I regret, is not going to this place much sooner! I am giving this place five start because of the amazing service we got from the bartender today. We went here with my husband and 1.5 year old baby. By the time we got there they closed down the patio so we would have to sit inside. But our baby doesnt do well inside restaurants so we took the food togo. The kitchen had a 40 min wait. I ordered crab cakes for the baby and mentioned in passing that it would be great to have the baby's food as soon as it arrived. The bartender said: "just to confirm isnt your order a takeout?" I confirmed feeling stupid for my rediculous request. Meanwhile my baby started pointing at other people's food and crying because he was hungry. The bartender thinking on her feet gave me some crackers, which saved me. We went outside the restaurant while waiting for our takeout food so that the baby could play. I was starting to run out of crackers and I felt like a terrible mom for not having brought any snack for him. Then I saw the door open and the waitress came outside with a plate of crab cakes and silverware. She truly saved me and the baby. He wolfed down the crabcakes. What a gorgeous renovation of a Southampton landmark. The newly renovated Walker House is amazing. The time and effort that has gone into making this place incredible is inspiring. The food is quite good too. The menu is simple and the food was superb. The decor is also so lovely. There is now an amazing party/wedding room with a fabulous bar too. It makes me want to plan an event. :) It is a must when visiting Southampton. There can be a line up during busy summer weekends and summer nights, but it is worth the wait to experience this Southampton beauty re-imagined and revitalized. read more

The Walker house seems to be a place where community meets. The friendly atmosphere is apparent as soon as you walk in. Nice staff and excellent food. We have been there twice now and enjoyed our meals each time. There are extras they offer such as gravy but it also costs extra. It would be nice if this was mentioned while placing our order. If it costs extra I would like to know. Also they will always recommend the crème brûlée & we tried it the first time. An excellent treat. The second visit I told our server I wasn't falling for that again and she laughed. Overall great experience both visits. Thank you. read more

Great patio and menu features. Best Caesar salad I've had in a while! Not a place to go if you're in a hurry, but wonderful one to enjoy some cold drinks and tasty food on a sunny and warm day in Southampton. We weren't surprised that the wait was so long (over an hour after ordering) to get our food on a summer weekend evening. The surprise was that management refused to turn down the air conditioning (68 F, 19.4 C) despite requests from a number of tables. That isn't a temperature anyone would tolerate in winter! People want comfort, not refrigeration! The Walker House had been a summer family tradition for us for over a decade. A tradition we intend to change. We resented paying the bill. read more

When we first started coming here years ago, there were definitely some quality issues - I'm not sure if management changed or what, but in recent years I have always thoroughly enjoyed my meals here! The service can take awhile (even in a slow season) but for the food and the restaurant itself, it's definitely worth it. Normally I've had a good experience here, but the last time I went in, everything was over cooked, the vegetable stack was disgusting! It was mush, inedible it looked ok the way it was assembled but when you move a couple of the top "show" pieces it was mush, it looked like it was eaten and thrown up! And chicken fingers.... If you can't even cook pre made chicken fingers right then there's a problem , they were so over cooked and the poutine the fries were over done but not offal , their signature (packaged) gravy was nothing to write home about and the cheese was cold and not even melted! An the goat cheese flat bread was so hard and slightly burnt! We told our waiter and he'd didn't even care! Again I've eaten there in the past and it was good, but as a chef, I was very disappointed. read more

This Pub has a great location and very friendly staff. The food is your typical pub style food. We ordered burgers, crab cakes and salad- all very tasty and well prepared. Biggest problem with this place is perhaps availability. It is very popular and packs out quickly. Even with reservations there is 45min-1hr wait for food. They were very accommodating as I had small children to serve the kids food quickly. But it was a long wait for our meals. There is also a lot of flys in the restaurant which was annoying to have around while trying to eat indoors. read more

We went for long awaited wings and Caesar salad ,we had a bit of a wait to be served.when she finally appeared she was very apologetic however she disappeared again then we ordered she never came back to see if we needed anything else. Finally to pay our bill we had to go find her ,the wings were very small and salad was limp for the amount we paid and what we got probably won't be back anytime soon. Took a friend here to celebrate her retirement. Had the worse lunch experience ever. We waited for about an hour for our food. All the food was cold. We complained but said we didn't want to waste the food so we agreed to new fries and a new order of mussels. The mussels came back and had obviously been microwaved to warm them up. They were rubbery and still not steaming. The waitress never came to check our table and we were never offered more water or coffee until after we complained about the food. The manager promised us that our bill had been adjusted and when we received it only 15% was taken off. Honestly, the mussels should have been free. Never returning. read more

The walker house is such and old tradition and the whole restaurant has undergone facelift to high light its traditional architecture. I can't complain about the food, it's always good, portions are large enough and prices are fair. The beer selection is decent enough for most tastes and the staff are attentive and relatively quick. The problem is consistency, service from lunch to dinner and week to week varies so much that its hard to rate the walker house. My husband made a reservation for Mother's day brunch. We arrived about 5 minutes early. There were approx. 30 or more people waiting in the small front entrance(people were waiting outside too). Seating took over 20 minutes. While waiting for seating, the poor people who had been seated had to squeeze their way through the crowd at the door to get to the food, then squeeze their way through the crowd again to get back to their seats (ones seated in bar area). Finally we were seated at two tables pushed together in an area where there was not enough room for us to be seated...people who were walking past us to get to buffet had to turn sideways to fit between the our table and the one behind us. Too many reservations accepted. Food was poorly laid out and the selection/variety/quality for the cost was disappointing. read more

As residents of the area for the last couple years we have ate at the Walker House many times. Usually the quality of food and service is very good, while it is a little pricey. The last 2 weekends we have tried to get in for dinner and there has been a significant wait to eat. Last week we walked away and recognized that it was a music festival and it was busy everywhere. Last night we decided to wait and that we did for nearly an hour to get a table. We tried to get a reservation earlier in the day, but the restaurant was not taking reservations. Out on a bike ride earlier in the day we popped in to see if they would take a reservation in person and they would not. They ensured we have no problem getting in if we came around six. So to say the least when we got in I was very surprised to see many empty tables and sections were closed completely. They appeared to be short staffed and as we looked around people were waiting for both food and drinks. Outside I lost count of the people who walked away in search of another place to eat. Inside there is a ton of room, I just don't get it! I asked our server what the issue was and she indicated that it was the beautiful summer weather and it had brought in a lot of people for dinner. But this wasn't just volume, this was about staffing and in my opinion is a management issue. Our food came cold, sizzling fajitas were warm and my wife's steak was warm. We were not asked if we wanted another drink, and to say the least it was a not a good experience. We don't have a lot of good choices to eat at up here and I think it has likely just been reduced by 1. I am curious if management will read this and respond. read more

I live 25 minutes away in Sauble Beach but will drive to the Walker House anytime for a great meal. They have a fantastic menu and several great specials on a daily basis. A few of my favourites are the Whitefish, crabcakes, lasagna and they always have an excellent curry option. Can't go wrong with the fajitas either. For dessert, creme brulee and carrotcake are awesome. Bar area is nice as is dining room. Only negative is it can get a little loud. read more

We drive 45 minutes from PIke Bay to get the wings and Caesar salad. On a long weekend we avoid because too busy. However other times are ok. Nice patio area out back in summer. To add to this ... we went yesterday and the wings we used to love have now become 7 instead of 8 or more that every other restaurant offers. Possibly the smallest order of wings I have ever seen... Caesar salad was ok but a bit limp. Overall we were a bit disappointed and will no longer be our main place to go for wings. 45 minutes is too far to drive for a disappointing meal. We have found better wings at Sauble Golf, Knowlzies and Red Bay Lodge. Won't be returning any time soon...... We returned in November to see if things had improved. The order of wings was back to what it used to be so could be classed as a meal not just a snack. Have changed my review from 2 stars to 4 stars because of the improvement. I would still avoid on a summer long weekend however because of the number of people there. Also avoid on Pumpkinfest weekend. read more

Behind the plain no thrills brick building lies excellent food and service. The menu is unique as it has a wide range of items one can not classify it as a certain type of food. Maybe tradition, identity crisis, or favorites of the area- it does not matter... this is an excellent restaurant. The crab cake and steak was executed well and the Caesar salad could not be better! We arrived early luckily as we noticed leaving many were waiting to be seated. Obviously a town favorite and would highly recommend while in town. read more

I go here every year before cruisers cruise nights. It has become an annual tradition. I must say I was very disappointed this past time as the service was slow and they messed up my order of nachos . I had asked for no mushrooms and when my nachos came with them I nicely told one of the waitresses . Another waitress muttered " just pick them off " which I believe is what they did because when they arrived a quick 5 minutes later there was still the odd little mushroom.
