There's about an 80 percent chance I was in a screensaver this past Sunday... Well, I'm trying to narrow it down. It was either A) A Screensaver B) A prescription drug commercial C) An episode of Smallville Let me paint this Beech for ya. Drive up a long soothing driveway to an old stone forged mansion. Park on the left and walk along the back of the house to come up on a deep landscape of rolling hills with sparse fall colored foliage peaking behind some. Separating the property is an almost never-ending white fence that sweeps off and to the right. 2 large wide trees stand close to the house on the left. The brick walk that leads you to the back of the mansion follows into an almost covered bridge style gazebo which then escorts you into a large heated permanent white tent with a light wooden floor and tiny strung globe lights that create outward rays from the top center, almost 20 feet up. Damn, this venue is as cute as a muf! I wanna have my wedding up this in B. At the ceremony space that stands in front of one of the large hawthorne trees, are 2 brightly colored shining barrels for massive floral arrangements to hug the happy couple. Beside the tent is a raised brick patio where guests can enjoy a cocktail or 5, and if you step into the house, you'll find treasures of those described on Portabello Road #BedknobsAndBroomsticks My eye catches an old cabinet-style victrola, a baby grand piano, and rugs from around the world. Our family's experience with Walkers Overlook has been one of misinformation, misrepresentation and mistrust.  Overall -- miserable. We made plans for a June wedding at WO, before Covid hit.  Once the pandemic was in full swing, we worked to change the date a few times, until the event became untenable.  It was then we asked for a refund (citing "Act of God") -- a reasonable approach supported by the other wedding vendors and partners we were working with at the time ("we're all in this together") -- but Walkers said "no" (at least initially).  After direct negotiation with the owner, WO did concede that they would be "open" to a full refund, that that was their intent for customers similarly impacted, but we would have to "wait and see" through the Covid season. We stayed in touch for months -- emails, phone calls, texts, etc -- with the owner's feedback always being "we're getting there, still working through the numbers ... but we should be able to work something out." Then, after a long lull in the conversation through the end of last year, we received a definitive "heck no" from one of their employees.   Moreover, they cited we should have kept the last date we all rescheduled and that there would be no further movement by them on the matter.  We then went back to the owner -- phone calls, texts and emails since have remained unanswered -- crickets. They still have all our money.  We still have not had a wedding reception there.  We are now in the process of taking formal legal action. What can you learn from our horrible experience to date?  We would all probably agree that marriage is a special covenant -- one that for the ceremony, you want to partner and plan with vendors who share the same values -- to love, honor and cherish in building and supporting such an important and meaningful life event. Walkers Overlook, in our direct experience, is NOT that wedding vendor partner you want to be hitched to.  Our advice? -- leave Walkers Overlook "at the altar." read more

I have not had my wedding here (YET! July 2014) but I wanted to write a review here more from my wedding venue shopping experience. Obviously, the first impression was a very positive one as we walked out back and took in the views of the countryside surrounding the back area. Cornfields and mountains, oh my! Also, a very nice, new wooden deck/floor covered by a tent that somehow doesn't look or feel wedding tent-like but more just like a big, open space. We called ahead 10 minutes before we were going to be there to see if we could get a tour and talked to the owner, Mark, who was very friendly and inviting despite it being a Saturday morning. When we got there, Missy greeted my fiance and I, and gave us a friendly, informal, and informative, tour. I think we both knew within minutes, this was our place! The inside of the house is also gorgeous as it nice balance between the old and the new. The original stone walls and fireplaces are there, as well as exposed ceiling beams. Possibly original wooden floors, but look nice and refinished. Appreciated the fact that they didn't decorate in the shabby-country-doiley (outdated) style that a lot of these older house/venues tend to use! Lots of room for use all day (10 am til late!) on your wedding day. Can't wait to have all my bridesmaids there to hang out in the bridal suite with mimosas while we primp! Maybe hang out on the balcony overlooking the back yard, who knows! (There is also a "Man Cave" on the basement level, far away from the bridal suite, where the guys can hang with a bar, pinball machines, and a huge safe that they say may be turned into a refrig) They have preferred caterers and such, but in the end you use who you want. My husband and I got married at Walker's Overlook this past weekend. Walker's Overlook is a beautiful wedding venue that sits on farmland. We loved our wedding coordinator, LuAnne! She was on top of everything. I can't stay enough good and positive things about this wedding venue. I recommend 100%!!! read more

After getting engaged, Walkers Overlook was the first venue that my husband and I visited. We were going just for fun to get the whole wedding planning process started, but ended up absolutely falling in love with the place. We loved the all-in-one feel of Walkers Overlook. The convenience of being able to get ready in the main house was very important to us. The bridal suite and "man cave" were exactly what we were looking for to keep our wedding day running smoothly. On top of convenience, the grounds are absolutely beautiful. The ceremony site and reception tent have stunning views of the mountains and fields in the area. Walkers Overlook just checked all the boxes for us. On top of that, they made us feel like family. If you want a venue with owners and staff that will treat you like family, not just another client, there is nowhere else to even consider. read more

WOW! Where do I even start? Walker's Overlook is the most stunning wedding venue that I have ever seen. The rolling green meadows, pictureque views, beautiful sunsets, well manicured gardens and their farmhouse is just so beautiful. Walker's Overlook could be a movie backdrop it's so perfect from all angles. We had our Sept-2016 wedding at Walker's Overlook and couldn't be happier. From Day 1, Mark L, the owner, has been a joy to work with. Mark helped us secure our date and worked with us on getting our caterer access to the facility for an initial consultation. We had a Jewish kosher wedding so it was VERY hard to find a venue who would allow us to use an outside caterer and Walker's Overlook was so accommodating. They were so open to all of our suggestions and even madye some of their own, including the DJ and Florist who we ended up using! During our 1st visit, we fell in love with the venue and couldn't wait for our wedding day. Our wedding coordinator, Shannon H., was excellent and was so excited to help us with our Jewish wedding. Shannon met us at the venue a few months in advance and we drafted the itinerary and she worked directly with our caterer and us to design the floor plan. On our wedding day, Shannon was there early to help with setup and had all the tables arranged inside the tent in line with our floor plan. Shannon worked so nicely with our caterer and had everything staged the way we wanted it. The covered tent was appointed so nicely with lights, which were awesome for evening pictures. They had air chillers inside the tent to cool it down and their dance floor was HUGE!!! Our caterer said she hasn't seen a venue with such a great layout and offered our caterer a lot of room to prepare the meals, which is rare for a wedding venue. They had 6 bathrooms so there was never a line. They had all the chairs arranged for our ceremony and it looked GORGEOUS! They let us store our leftover food in their fridge and we came by the next day to pickup. They even helped us with trash disposal and took care of helping us with disposing of our wooden signs, which was SO helpful. Overall, this was the PERFECT venue for us and Mark, Shannon, Ed, and team were the perfect people to help us plan the most magical wedding. This venue exceeded ALL expectations for our wedding day. We got married on 10.4.15, the weekend when a hurricane was supposed to hit MD. Thank goodness it didn't! But you can imagine the stress behind hosting a 160 person wedding with the possibility of a major storm coming through. Shannon was AMAZING. She really really took care of me. She promised everything would work out....and oh my was she right! Our wedding day was PERFECT. I swear I have people telling me that it was "the best wedding they had ever been to." It was the first time 99% of our guests had been to Walkers Overlook. THIS VENUE IS A GOLD MINE. You have the venue ALL DAY LONG! Not many people offer this. I didn't feel rushed. I got to enjoy every second of my day. And Mark, Shannon, and the other staff at Walkers Overlook were blessings. They even let my dog hang out inside while when our reception and dinner started....and they even showed him love! I promise you, this venue is the best venue in the state of MD. You feel like its your home for the day. You feel like you take part of the venue with you after your wedding day. I wish I could get married again at this venue.
