I was very lucky to have found this place (after several unsuccessful searches to find a small indoor venue for our hour long ceremony). Weddings on Wirt will hold up to 30 people. Although the space is the small, the little touches like the gold chairs (which are part of your hourly rental) and historical looking furnishings are a nice alternative to getting married at the courthouse (also looks better in pictures than a courthouse). Suzanne (the owner of Legacy Weddings and proprietary of Weddings on Wirt) is very accommodating. If you have a small event planned the space and add-ons available are perfect. (Although, the space is typically used for weddings. Suzanne is flexible (and told me) she has hosted other events at space, like baby showers). I loved the fact that Weddings on Wirt has wedding packages and gives their prices up front. We decided for example to add a small cake and sparkling cider toast to our hourly package after our ceremony was finished (we made this decision, a week before the ceremony, and Suzanne didn't mind the last minute decisions). In a nutshell, I recommend this space for a small gathering due to its flexible terms and affordability.

We met with Suzanne and I liked her immediately. She's very kind and outgoing, honest but not harsh about anything. She listened to my wants/needs/ideas and was just as enthusiastic about them as I was. She threw out a name of a venue nearby and it ended up being exactly what we were looking for, and we went with it! To start, I loved the Wirt house, so charming! She was very factual and really knew her stuff. She pointed out a ton of things I hadn't even begun to think about, and I have NO idea what I would have done without her! I learned from this whole ordeal that I am a closet control freak, and I took on planning most of the wedding myself when I should have let go of the reins...but Suzanne was incredibly patient and understanding with me, even while I was having meltdowns throughout the year due to the combined stress of wedding planning and my ongoing career roadbumps. When my job became too difficult to attend some of the vendor meetings she went in my place and didn't miss a beat. As for the final wedding day, I'm convinced she's a superhero. There was SO MUCH going on, so many things to attend to and oversee, and she did it all completely by herself! No assistants or anything, I would have needed at least 3 to do all of that! And she did all of this while I had turned myself completely off a couple weeks before the big day. I simply had no more to give and she took it like a champ and was still smiling from ear to ear. I loved that she was, if not more, excited about the wedding and wasn't just looking at it like it was a job she had to get through. I have zero experience with weddings, never gave much thought to mine until I got engaged...so I have nothing to compare it to but honestly I have no regrets about using Suzanne. We had an hour and a half phone conversation a few weeks before the wedding where they made sure to have all of our favorite music for each part of the ceremony and reception, and even ensured they had the correct pronunciation of our wedding party for announcements! He has a very simple and efficient set up with lights and sound systems. What was really impressive for us were the music videos that he played that went with the music. Once we saw that and saw/heard his transitions we knew he was the DJ we wanted. We had an unusual theme for our wedding, we did a costume theme "Talk Nerdy to Me" and Paul was not only happy to work with us, but he also had some awesome ideas on how to truly make it our own. With the video screen package, he was able to do movie/you tube clips and a slide show. When it came to getting strange and unusual music, Paul was able to do it with no issues. We asked for quite a few songs that were not in his database including traditional Chinese and Estonian Country music and he was able to get it with no issues. His online planning system made it really easy for us to put our Ceremony and Reception plan together. All of my guests LOVED the music choices. Part of it was our doing in putting together a song list, and part of it was Paul reading the party and playing accordingly. He even accommodated my niece's request for the Hokie Pokie. Don't take my word for it, Weddings are not the gigs he does in the DC area. Watch him in action and see for yourself. At the last minute, he wasn't going to be able to get his equipment out to us in time so I found Paul and reached out to him. Paul told me he was available and met with us in person. He was reasonably priced and we couldn't have lucked out better for a last minute booking. Even though our friend couldn't DJ, Paul let him do all of the introductions which was really sweet. He even let our friend take the reigns and do a couple songs! Paul never felt like our friend was stepping on his toes and we really appreciated that he let us do that. Paul kept the party going from the beginning. I've had so many people since the end of our wedding telling me how great our DJ was. We had a weird mix of twenty somethings and sixty somethings with not much in between. Even still, Paul was able to judge the crowd and keep people dancing. I don't think there was a second all night long that people weren't all over the dance floor! His online portal is very straight forward and easy to use. I was able to put in many details and everything we wanted to hear was played at our wedding. Paul is also not one of those DJs that keeps interrupting songs to talk. He knew when it was appropriate to interject and when it wasn't. My husband commented that this was one of his favorite things about Paul: his professionalism on and off the dance floor. The owners Georgia and Peter were incredibly supportive, and gave sage advice throughout our planning process. In addition, Alyson, who handles the emails for the farm, was always incredibly quick to provide responses to our questions, and was a pleasure to communicate with. We visited the venue a couple times throughout 2019 between January and our wedding this past September. It takes some imagination to picture how the grounds would look like on your wedding day, because it transforms so much with each season. However, we thought it was gorgeous and made for a terrific backdrop each time we visited regardless of the season. The farm is between an hour to an hour and a half outside of D.C. so it is a fantastic option for getting a rustic venue space that is still accessible for our friends living in the city and the families flying in to Reagan or Dulles. There is a lot of flexibility for events at East Lynn Farms, which may be a stressor for couples depending on their appetite for DIY versus a turnkey wedding option. The farm includes some decorations and a list of recommended vendors, but we were not restricted to the list as long as the vendors we chose had the appropriate license and insurance. The farm allows you to provide our own beverages for events, and we were able to save quite a bit by sourcing our drinks from Costco rather than ordering through the caterer. My wife and I were initially worried about how hot might be at the tail end of Summer, and we contemplated renting fans or A/C units for the wedding. Thankfully, Georgia advised us that the surrounding mountains provided the area with a cooler ambient temperature and a reasonable breeze that negated the need for that hefty expense. On our wedding day, the weather was perfect! Even at the peak of the afternoon it never got so hot that it was uncomfortable to wear a suit jacket, and at the end of the night it wasn't so cold that one needed a jacket. There's no limit of the amount of praise and recommendations my wife and I would give to East Lynn! We honestly couldn't have imagined a better place to have our wedding!
