Wallace is smooth as butter. Talking to him *feels* like he is not saying anything at all, and yet he leads clients to new insights or better choices in no time at all.
Exhibit A of his super-human powers: He convinced me to go to a hospital voluntarily in about 10 minutes, after other mental health professionals tried and failed for two weeks. Or more accurately, he led me to convince myself; as far as I can tell he had no agenda and no prior knowledge of my situation. I felt understood and cared for in a way that made me want to make better choices for myself.
I think his "secret" is that he offers nothing to resist. Wallace offers lots of encouragement and lots of validation. He delivers suggestions, questions or "nuggets" to consider in brief interjections, just a few words, often not even a full sentence. Just enough to plant an idea. I saw Wallace in a group setting, and he got clients to open up who hadn't spoken to any of the "regular" therapists in weeks.
Five stars, highly recommend! read more
