No issues on this quick Walmart trip. Coming here was a no brainer as I was in the area and needed a few things. The store is clean and appears to be remodeled/ updated. Mind you , I haven't come here in 4 years. Yeah, that long!! I was impressed with their grab and go section. Very conveniently location soon as you enter the store. Self checkout was quick. I did need staff assistance but the guy was cool & friendly. This visit to Walmart did not get on my nerves but it was hot outside!!! read more

This is my go to Walmart as it is the closest one to me. I have tried Walmart pick up in the past and accompanied many family members who also used pick up. I have never had a good experience with doing a pick up order of my own. Items are always being substituted, produce that is picked for me is usually bad and the last time I scheduled a pick up over half of my order was left out. I called customer service at the center and no one picked up (it was before 8pm). I didn't realize half my order was left out until after driving 20 minutes home. My only option was to go through the app and request help via online chat. It took a while to speak to a real human, ridiculous! I ended up getting a refund for the items but it was still an inconvenience to me since the items were needed the very next day for a party. Don't bother with pickup methods unless you're willing to check your order and hold the employees hand the whole way. read more

The worst experience ever with Walmart pick up services! Thank goodness this is not our normal store! We came here because they had an item in stock that other Walmart's didn't have. The online order pickup was insane. Only 2 people working and about 20 cars waiting. They weren't using the mobile check-in.... They we're going to whichever car was closest to them first! Another customer was so upset they got out of there car and stared yelling and putting their hand in the employees face because they had been waiting over an hour. Never coming here again. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. There is zero customer service at Walmart. There's no one around to ask for assistance. If you happen to see an employee, they never know the answer. My daughter and I walked around for at least an hour trying to find an item she was told was sold there without any luck. But that isn't the worse part. When we finally gave up and decided to checkout, there were no cashiers checking out customers. The ONLY option was self-checkout. So we had to scan and bag all of our items (I had a lot). I went into the side door area where a employee Ms. Sandra addressed me as that I couldn't walk-in in on that side. After I left two other customers came in behind me and I stopped my vehicle and she let them in. Then she also let a paying customer leave out that same side. I am paying customer just like the other three customers that she showed favoritism to. With no problem being that's the store rules. I drove and walkedin on the other side. I walked down to where she was and and she gave me a nasty attitude remark uuuhhhhuh. Do for one do for all. I felt very uncomfortable and uncertain about shopping there and coming back. You'd think that me being a woman she'd let me that time of night instead she let two other men in and let a woman out on that same side she wouldn't let me in and used me to enforce Walmart's store policy. read more

The store inside is clean enough, and fairly organized. The employees were nice. But the rating here is for their online order / mobile pick-up option. We tried the online pickup here and were very disappointed. It took FOREVER. And we were not the only ones. We ended up hearing another customer yell out that they had been waiting over an hour for someone to bring out their order. We ended up waiting close to 30 minutes, which is a little ridiculous. Canceled my entire grocery order after I was there to pick it up and I only canceled 1 item that was unavailable anyway. Nothing could be done? It was all there and paid for by card but i couldn't get the order and have to wait 3-5 days for the money back. Called for the District manager after the store manager wouldn't help. Team lead Andrew wouldn't give any info for them but said they could have let me take the food to a checkout and recheck out (myself this time because all they hire is people to point at registers). I wasn't given the option when I was at the store. Time and gas wasted and have to wait for the money to be returned so I can go somewhere else and buy groceries. Billion dollar company with a 10 cent app/website. Pitiful...wished it would just close and they could put a Costco in its place. read more

I came to the Gardendale Wal-Mart to get some sheet straps to keep the fitted sheet from coming off the mattress. I couldn't find anyone to help me, so I had to go all the way down to the garden center and asked a cashier. He told me to look in houseware. I did that too. Still, no one around to help. Gave up and went on and checked out the dog food we needed. I have 12.00 left of my gift card and once that is spent I will not be returning to this store. BTW the website said they were in stock, but to no avail, Gardendale is the worst Wal-Mart I have ever been to. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. read more

This was my first time at the Gardendale Walmart. A few days ago I stopped to do some shopping in the early afternoon on my way home to the Cullman area. (Cullman has two wonderful Walmarts). The employees I encountered at Gardendale were rude. There were long lines at the few registers that were opened and we were herded like cattle by a blue smocked person into two open lanes. Meanwhile, there were employees hanging out around the closed registers laughing and talking among themselves. (In retrospect, I should have walked out the door then). Finally checking out, I was wheeling my cart towards the door and two female employees walked in front of me up to my cart and wouldn't get out of my way. So I steered my cart to the left of them to get a clear way to the exit. I guess this was pretty funny to them. Call this what you want, but I call this whole experience disrespectful to me as a paying customer and the worst customer service I have experienced at any Walmart in the area. I'll never shop there again. read more

Only gave 1 star because I cannot leave 0 stars. Joined the new Walmart+ club and placed my first order for delivery. Put in my order for grocery delivery and have been waiting for hours as my alloted time was between 4:00 and 6:00PM. Finally called the number on the email I received and was told that the Doordash driver decided not to deliver my groceries after arriving at the store. Let me repeat that, Walmart is using Doordash to deliver orders for Walmart+ orders. The Doordash driver left without delivering my order and Walmart was not aware that the driver decided to leave without delivering my order. So Walmart is using a second company for its deliveries, but it has no way of tracking if the orders are being delivered or if they have even been picked up. Yep it's 2020 and one of the largest retailers in the world does not have a system in place to track customers orders, pickups and deliveries. Ultimately my wife had to go to Walmart to pick up our groceries which defeats the whole purpose of the Walmart+ membership. I will be canceling my Walmart+ membership immediately and going back to Publix for my groceries. read more

For those of you who know me, have read my Walmart reviews, or have a pulsing hatred for Walmart... you have to wonder how in the world I could give 4 stars to any Walmart. Well, I have discovered the best kind of Walmart, is one that you don't have to go in to! This is the first and only Walmart I have done grocery pick-up for, and it is great. Yes I know. Walmart is the bane of our existence and terrible for local business. And trust me, anywhere I still have a local option to shop, I will (ie local hardware stores are my jam!). But for what we buy, it is king vs slightly smaller king. Getting those prices without getting in the droves of human purgatory, sign me up. Not to mention, they must pool their most friendly employees from the northern hemisphere to fill these roles. Because I have rarely met Walmart employees as nice as the folks that deliver the groceries out. Is it lazy? Yes. Does it make me cheap? Sure. But when you have two 8 month old babies at home, enough free time to barely take a shower, and trying to be as efficient as possible, this is a no-brainer. BOOM! First and probably last 4 star Walmart review. The newness of this pickup has to fade pretty soon into my good senses. read more

I am much more familiar with the Walmarts in Crestwood, Lakeshore, and Hoover so naturally when I come to a different one I'm a little out of place. The hair product aisle and skincare aisles seemed backwards. They also didn't carry the particular shampoo I was looking for today. The best thing about this Walmart? They have a Freeosk. A freeosk is a kiosk that holds free samples of new products. Today, they had Nature Valley granola cups.The only other Walmart in Birmingham with a Freeosk is in Trussville, while a few Sam's Clubs have them too. The only thing weird about this Walmart, was that I came in at 6:00am one day, and they had at least 20 workers stocking items on their shelves. They had no cashiers working at all, and it was all self-checkout. I hardly ever do the self checkout, and while there was one employee assigned to help the customers with the self-checkout, I do think this is a weird system to have. I just think there should be at least two cashiers working at all times at such a big store. read more

Their auto service department is horrible. I've waited for six hours just to get tires put on and there was only 2 cars ahead of me. Today my daughter went to get her oil changed and it took 2 hours. They never told her when it was completed so she sat there for 45 minutes before she asked if it was done, which it was. Every single time I've taken one of my vehicles there they NEVER notify you when it's done and never call if you drop it off. And good luck finding anyone working in that department. They're either at lunch / dinner, or short staffed....every single time. I've met the supervisor and she just let's her team run ragged and do whatever they want. I'll spend the extra money and go somewhere else from now on. read more

I placed an order for pick up for grocery items only on Wednesday morning by 7:00am, to be picked up that afternoon. received a message saying order was delayed and list another time. I listed the next day for evening. At 5:00 on Thursday when i sas to pick up my order they sent me another delay. I tried calling the store multiple times and it rang and rang, then after so long of ringing it would hang up. By 6:30 with still no news on my order, i use the Text message feature on their website and get someone who could not call the store and find out the status of my order. He advised me to cancel, since it is now 7:00 pm and still no word on my order. I canceled and he said that he would have someone contact me from billing about removing the hold. I get a notice that i placed a request for cancellation but then was advised that they may not be able to cancel my order. At this point i still have a $400 hold on my account with no groceries and still no confirmation about my request from billing. I am furious.... read more

The quality of this store has gone down, down tremendously over the past year or two. Items are missing on the shelves for weeks or months, they have one or two check out aisles open at any given time with long lines waiting and complaints go without any actions. My wife refuses to go to Walmart any longer and when I find a place for my dog treats, I will make my final trip to this Gardendale store #1201 as well. Your disregard for the feelings and welfare of your customers is a disgrace as is your response to stated problems and issues. I went to get 9 pictures printed out from my phone. I took 45 min. The 1st photo mashine I went to would not download the pictures. I moved to another mashine which only downloaded some of the pictures. The worker tha was in electronics was very helpful and tryed many ticks with the mashine before he could get the photos to print. Now it was time to pay for the pictures. I could not pay in electronics I had to go to the photo/pick up/ lay-a-way area to pay. There I had to wait 10 mins. For the following reasons: 1. 3 people where there but only 1 knew what to do. 2. The batter in a handheld device was dead and they had to find another battery. After all of this she then went over to the cash register and rung up the pictures. read more

I absolutely hate when I have to go to this Walmart. They never have anything in stock, the employees are always insanely rude and God forbid you have to use the pharmacy. They lied to me several times and said my doctor never sent in the second prescription. (They filled the first one but refused to give me the measuring cup for it.) When my doctor said Walmart needed to call them about it, the person answering the phones and the pharmacist were extremely ugly and told me that they absolutely refuse to call the doctor and wouldn't give a reason why. After three calls to my doctor and NINE to the Walmart pharmacy, my husband (after his fifth trip up there in two days) had to drive to the doctor and pick up a print out showing that they did send it in before he could go back to Walmart I could finally get my medicine. I wish I could say this was the first problem we've had with them, but it's not. I will NEVER use this pharmacy again and, quite frankly, I'm surprised they're still in business with such awful customer service and patient abuse being the norm. I would say they should be ashamed, but you have to have a conscience to feel shame. read more

So I went in for a few things around 8:30pm in a Friday night. Now let me preface this with the fact that I shop @ my local Wal-Mart about three times a week, so I think I have a good idea of what a Wal-Mart should be. And I have 23+ years of retail experience. Anyway, I was shocked at the number of empty shelves. And the fact they had only 4 check-out lanes open was just incredible. I understand from my family this is always the case. The bathrooms are filthy. What was on the shelves was in disarray with no one in the aisles straightening what was there. As we were leaving, there were pallets brought out to replenish from so that earned them this second star--but I have a hard time believing the store would be ready for business on a Saturday, the biggest retail day of the week. Luckily, we won't be returning to see if I am right. read more

As "evil" as Wal-mart is purported to be, it's one of the better places around here to pick up certain things. That being said, I always get frustrated with my shopping here though, whether it's long lines and very few open cashiering lanes, or something specific I'm looking for not being in stock (how does Wal-mart run out of face cream or mason jars and not get any more on the shelf for weeks!?). They're not particularly helpful, so it's a good thing I'm an independent shopper who doesn't need much help in the first place. Any time I've needed assistance though, the response was bafflingly slow - if I waited around for that response. And the bathrooms could use some attention. It would be also nice if they offered customers the option of a shopping basket rather than a buggy. I will load my arms if it means keeping my wits about me and not having to fill up a buggy. Actually, I really kinda loath coming here, and I usually only do so when I need to pick up something I can't get somewhere else or other big box stores are closed. I suppose in this region Wal-mart is a necessary evil. read more

This is it. This is my neighborhood Walmart. I've shopped here thousands of times, and often do I find myself wanting to go back (for groceries). I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Typical Walmart remarks can go here, but I have special words with which to inform. All the sentimental value is here. I always love the nice elderly men and women they hire as greeters. Many a times have I gone into the store to ride an electric wheelchair, only to be told by one of these dear elderlies to "get on off that thing; save it for somebody who needs it." So many sweet elderly greeters I've seen come and go over the years; even my own Great-GrandPep was one of them. Dying of old age and various old-age-related ailments, I miss them all so deeply, and visit often the new ones Walmart hires to be sure they attach the bond of good neighborhood greetings to me; Walmart is good at finding these for me. But on to the store itself: they sell thousands of items, more than I and a thousand old greeters could ever run home with just a short matter of time on which to do so. The amounts are simply impenetrable when considering. Comparing prices is one thing, but wishing everything was cheaper is something any normal person might find him or herself doing even at a place with such helpful elderlies as the Walmart. I wish to live out my last years meeting neat young people and fellow elderlies now and then as a Walmarts greetsman. But first! If the business scenarios of switching between festered retail, and unfesterd department store is so rich to maintain, it is much better to buy in bulk and will always be. I am just thankful this Walmart is right down the road for me to stop by and buy some groceries: carrots, bananas, etc. read more
