I have had several instances where i have been assaulted by a homeless man named Dave. He has been in this area for quite a while; ladies, please stay safe here. I had a severe, costly surgery after he hit me onto the street and broke both of my legs. I am currently in the hospital right now and the doctors are unsure if I will ever walk again. If I could give 0 stars I would. My order was placed for 7 pm, at 7:45 it was still not ready so I called and they said it would be 10 minutes. At 8:30 I called when it wasn't done yet either, and they said it would be an hour before it was ready. Canceled my order and went in and got my stuff in 30 minutes. The West Des Mopines or Grimes stores are becoming my go to locations more and more. I live closer to the Windsor Heights store, but it's been going downhill quickly. After the revamp of the floor and shelving I was hoping the Windsor Heights location was going to be better. Nope. The West Des Moines location is consistently clean, well organized, and well stocked. It definitely makes the few more mile drive worth it. The stocking at the Windsor Heights store just pisses me off. The online inventory system is frequently not accurate and often the stop carrying products that I purchase. i.e. 32oz Original Johnsonville Summer Sausage. My daughter has type 1 diabetes and it makes a great snack along with cheese for her. I buy a TON of it. The space is the cooler for it is gone. Distribution chain issues? Not when I can still get it in West Des Moines and Grimes. Kind of sad that I'd rather drive to West Des Moines or Grimes than to do business with the one closest to my home... This review is for the auto service department only, as I did not shop in main store. I was in town for my mom's funeral with my wife and kid. We traveled from Ohio. The night before we were going to depart Urbandale I noticed a screw lodged in the front tire. Obviously I needed to get this fixed before driving 600 miles. After many failed attempts to get a tire place to help me out (nobody answers their phone, no open appointments, etc) I was starting to panic. But I saw Walmart opens at 7AM, so I called in and Todd was very helpful. He said come right in and we'll fix you up. So 30 minutes and $17 later I was in business and on time. The employees were friendly, helpful, and polite. Also, prices here are great, especially fruits and vegetables- like all Walmarts. However, some items were in the incorrect place, including a cellphone we were purchasing, which was listed for around $45, and was actually about $60. The staff member handling our purchase was apologetic and kind, but it was still quite a letdown to spend the extra unexpected money... I ordered 2 orders for pickup. The email said both were ready but when I got there they were only able to find one order. They said it was being made but when I tried to check in and say I was here it would not let me. Even after waiting for 20 minutes there was still no word of them being done or even making my order. The only time we ever come to this Wal-Mart location is if we need to get something we could not get at Sam's Club next door. We dropped off our car today here for an oil change while we shopped at Sams. The line was super long for the auto service, not sure if it is always like that there. Walking through this store it looks a bit subpar in terms of cleanliness and staff professionalism. Some items were also a bit unorganized on the shelves. This Walmart is HUGE. But what Walmart isnt right? The store was extremely busy on a Saturday afternoon. They sell groceries here as well as baked goods. We were looking for pet supplies and they have a relatively large area dedicated to pets. They also sell plants here too and have a big outdoor/indoor area for them. Customer service was great because the cashier working the liquor area called for us to come to her when she saw us waiting in line to check out. read more

Not a bad Super Walmart but probably a bit too busy and parking is a bit odd. I guess the plus for this is that SAM'S CLUB is next door. Otherwise, it's probably only serves those who are in the Windsor Heights and Valley West folks. Grocery selection is about the same as others. However, it's a bit of a hike and you got to drive a bit away around to get to it off I-235. Weird layout in the plaza area near 3E which makes it not ideal. I would rather just get off interstate and pull into a parking lot. read more

I'm a fan cause I spent the night in the parking lot sleeping. I was not alone there seemed to be other cars and trucks doing the same so I was glad I wasn't bothered by any security tell me that I had to go. I don't know if it legal or ilegal but I've heard people that drive around do it often, do it at your own risk. It is your regular Walmart and they were open when I decided to walk in in the middle of the night and in the morning to use the restroom and freshen up. It is Walmart you have everything you need there. Picked up breakfast and few snacks for the road. The employees I ran into were nice. read more

I drove 10 miles for 1 bottle of salad dressing. Arrived at 8:20pm; turned away! Asked for a manager who finally relented, but told me to RUN!! That sounds safe! I did and got lots of dirty looks from other workers and customers! The hours posted on door & online said open til 8:30. Fix your posted hours! Why not close at 5pm?! Why even open on Sunday?! Why not just close the store completely until there's not 1 case of Coronavirus in the world?! I had bought for plastic storage containers and picked up the wrong lids at the South Ridge Walmart. I went back to exchange and get the right lids but could not find my receipt. The Southridge Walmart was fine with me exchanging the lids and had me go to get the ones I needed. The Southridge Walmart did not have the right lids so I went back to customer service and shared that. They told me to go to a different Walmart and I could do the exchange there. So, I went to the Walmart on 73rd St. and immediately customer service told me they couldn't make the exchange because I didn't purchase the lids at their Walmart , but suggested that if I wanted to get the containers I could exchange both the containers and the lids. So, I went back to my car and brought in the containers and when I walked in, the customer service person was shaking her head no. She told me I couldn't make the exchange there cause I didn't purchase them there. I asked to talk to a manager. They brought over the front end supervisor who told me that they couldn't do it, however one of those front end supervisor said they would get the store manager. The store manager told me specifically they couldn't do it because I hadn't bought the containers there. In addition, the manager wanted to know who I talked to at the other Walmart. I told Him it was someone in customer service with green hair. He was pretty rude and told me that that meant nothing to him. I told him I didn't know the person's name, but all I wanted was to exchange the lids. He told me they couldn't help me there because I didn't purchase them there. I told him if I had lied and said that I did would that make a difference and he said that they would first before they would let me exchange them they would check their video footage to make sure that I was actually in their store buying their containers. In the end, I left the containers that I was asked to go out to the car and get it we're definitely Walmart brand and left the lids. I've done a lot of business at Walmart and will never ever shop at the 73rd St., Walmart again. Sad sad customer service. read more

Well, what do you know....I am back here again writing another review of the Windsor Heights Wal-Mart. Quite frankly, they just sent me down the street to become a permanent customer at the nearby Hy-Vee. How did Wal-Mart do that? Well, let me count the ways:1) Too many egg containers with broken eggs, including the one I selected for purchase. It has eggs cracked at the bottom which I didn't see until I was doing my self-check out and discovered leaks onto the black surface where we pack our own groceries. 2 ) THEN, there was only one person helping people in the self-check out area, so she couldn't do anything! 3) So, I had to go to customer service to get my money back. 4)At no time did ANYONE offer to go to the egg department to get a good package! Also, 5) When I was getting my money back, that cashier never apologized for the broken eggs, for my having to come over there, or for having so little help available. Wal-Mart has made a giant mistake installing those self-check outs, having so few people available at night, etc. Making that decision has to be one of the most stupid business decisions ever made, given the fact there is a 24 hr. Hy-Vee 2 minutes away! Wal-Mart, in my book, should just close up shop and put signs on their doors directing people to the nearby Hy-Vee. Make it official, hey, why not?...That's what their lousy service, sloppy stocking, and non-caring employees are doing, anyway. This time, I mean it. Convenient location or not, I will not be giving another penny of my business to this store. I will never ever ever come to this location ever again. They are rude, have no idea what their talking about, and are so unhelpful. One of your making all this money you can afford to print off decent signs especially if your gonna be changing policies. Idgaf how well the manager trained the employees to know. I could care less. They then acted like they were doing me a favor and letting me exchange them. Which they didn't even have the right ones to begin with. So I have 10$ worth of stuff I don't need. Because it's unorganized, not very clean, never stocked. I have a problem every time I come here. I'd rather grow my own food then come back here. I am yet again so very disappointed. I came in at night and there was quite a bit of activity going on in the parking lot, in fact a strange looking guy was walking around my car with no apparent place to go. As I was checking out I happened to notice several people watching me and checking out everything I was buying. I was too nervous to walk to my car and actually requested someone walk out with me. btw I had to ask three different employees before someone finally volunteered to walk out with me. I'm a small woman and I was carrying my purse, an i-pad, and about $200 in merchandise. I was not walking to my car alone. Yeah, there was a police car with his lights on in the parking lot but he looked like he had stuff going on. Just go during the day. read more

Like going here great place to shop& get groceries. Convenient right next door to SAMS CLUB. I like coming here to shop like for an example I got a laptop if anything goes wrong with it like spill something on the keyboard you can sent it back to the place where it's under warranty fix it for free. You can add it at the checkout I added mine for two years then before the two years are up. You can renew it . Now you don't want to add a warranty on cheap stuff. Not to many places offer that. I had to have a hard drive fixed they send you a pre-payed box sent it in to UPS that's it it really doesn't take that long to get it back. read more

The cleanliness of the store is subpar and the service late at night is almost non-existent. Really good experience here today! I had to pick up an online order and the woman working was very friendly. No hassles at all. Then at the main front registers, there were quite a few longer lines but a manager opened up two lanes and nicely directed me to one so I didn't have to wait very long. This older black male is from Walmart on 73rd. My car battery was acting up and I drove to Walmart but they were closing, the woman made it very clear. He insisted I go to autozone but I didn't know where it was. Let me tell You! This man was off the clock but he told me to follow him. about twenty minutes of his time was used just getting there. We got there and he had tools and erthing, and this man took about 30 more minutes of his time and fixed my car! I'm so thankful for people like this! read more

It's clean, the people are helpful and always seem to smile as customers walk by. Nice smiles, not fake ones. It's big, it's got everything, and it's decently priced for everything. I had help finding the pet food and pet care I went to find. I checked out and the cashier was VERY nice, she talked with me, smiled, but still managed to check me out very quickly. read more

This review mainly is directed toward the auto care department, although the store as a whole is deserving of a low-star rating. I came in seeking tire service for my car, with the potential of battery replacement, lube & oil, and several other services which could've yielded a fairly nice sum of money for their coffers. It's a big box auto center. I don't expect customer service to be top notch. It's Walmart after all. I do expect correct information and respect. I got neither of those. I came for a quote, was told to come back whenever to get the tires because they'd be in 3 days after the quote was issued. Came back and was told that they don't take walk-ins, and that they haven't been since Black Friday. I was given my quote after Black Friday. I left the store with hazardous tires still on my vehicle, which is my fault for not acting faster, I admit. What Walmart can be blamed for is not giving a crap about their customers. The poor treatment I got from their auto service manager after bringing the issue to his attention was disappointing. I still took another quote and made an appointment to get my tires done, because I desperately needed them. After all this, I ended up going to Big-O in Urbandale, spent $5 more than Walmart's quote, and got treated like a human being by honest folks, and got better quality tires too! Goodbye Walmart Auto. Your service sucks, your staff give inaccurate info, and you'll continue to lose customers, although you're probably too ignorant to realize it. read more
