Walnut Woods has really grown up over the years since it was added to our wonderful park system. It now consists of two major areas: the Tall Pines area and the Buckeye Area. The Tall Pines area features the popular 2.6 mile Sweetgum Trail and the smaller Pin Oak Trail (0.4 miles). It has a small parking area with a port-o-let. The Sweetgum trail is a large loop (that can also be halved - it's a bit like a figure 8) and takes you through the woods and meadow - and based on the name of the trail and the area, you can probably guess what trees you'll find here. The tall pines are particularly dramatic and a popular place to take photos. It's a very nice, mostly paved hike. The Buckeye Area offers more of the amenities - restrooms (though they do not have running water), a shelterhouse with grills, a playground, and the dog park. There's a very large hill near one of the parking lots (there are two on this side), with a picnic table at the top that makes for a nice view of the area. The trail on this side is the 2 mile Buckeye Trail, also a bit of a figure-8 if you want to only do part of it and loop back. This side features trees that used to be part of a tree farm, though it's grown up enough now that it doesn't look solely like row after row of trees - other plants have since grown up. The Buckeye Trail also lets you follow along the Walnut Creek part of the way. To get between the two sides of the park, you have a couple of options. You can drive, as parking is available on both sides. You also have the option of two different trails - the 1.4 mile Monarch Trail or the 1.3 mile Kestrel Trail. For other activities, there is a sledding hill in the Buckeye Area available for kids when it snows and fishing, canoeing, and kayaking are permitted in Big Walnut Creek. If you're planning on bringing your four legged friends, all of the major trails here are pet friendly.

This is a nice park. Has an easily accessible shelter area that has a nearby playground. In the winter there's a sledding hill. Nice place to take a walk and enjoy nature.

Me and my furry friend absolutely love the dog park. It is always clean. I never have a problem with any other dog or people. The maintenance is amazing. It's all kept up and clean. It's such a wonderful park to take your dog to highly recommend.

We parked in the Tall Pines parking area and started on Sweetgum Trail. We finished the loop and overlapped some to link up with the Monarch Trail which we followed until the second Kestrel Trail fork and took Kestrel back to Monarch. Once back on Monarch it's a short jaunt to the Tall Pines Parking area via Sweetgum. Total Distance 5.5 miles via Garmin tracking I personally really loved Sweetgum and Kestrel trails, just so peaceful and beautiful. Not many people out on the trails despite the warm December temperatures. I will definitely be back often. I love how pet friendly this park is it's up there with Prairie Oaks in my books. Can't go wrong with Walnut Wood.

I have only been here twice, once in winter and once this spring. It's a nice little walk, about 2 miles for the route I go. I've taken my dog once and it was plenty open. I absolutely love the beautiful trees and all of the little bird feeders bringing birds out for watching.

Walnut Woods Metro Park is one of the newest around Columbus. It's not as big as many of the others. The park is pretty nice and clean. It has a nice dog area. The rest of the park isn't too exciting but it's good to relax. If you're going the first time to can be hard to find. It's located on Lithopolis Road near Groveport. The main entrance to the part is on the east side of the road. It has a big hill and several picnic areas. The best part of the park is the dog park. It's still a pretty new park so they're still adding. They should then have more to do around there. If you're around Groveport check out Walnut Woods Metro Park. It's pretty new and has modern facilities. The park is nice but maybe it's too far away from me for a visit.

This park is pretty large and there's multiple entrances and parking places. We like the variances of trails and what I mean by that are some trails are pavement and some are just bare moss and grassy ground which we really loved. This was one of the most enjoyable trails we've walked in a while locally. I did find it odd that my dog had a tick family hitch a ride around the park and in the car on the way home. We saw them in his white fur in the car and had a 30 minute drive back home. It was memorable to say the least. Lol He's on monthly prevention chewable (Nexgard) and we stopped to get a comb at the pet store but it was gross. I thought it was an odd time of year for that to happen but glad it all was fine. Maybe we will keep him closer on his leash next time if we choose to go back.

Love this metro park! The dog area in particular is amazing, plenty of room to run and some fun obstacles. There's also a fenced in pool for the dogs to swim in. They do treat the water with something though so if you have a white dog they will definitely need a bath to wash out the blue. The trails are really nice, some are paved and some are grass and gravel. Definitely bring bug spray if you go on the fall pines trail, there's plenty of mosquitos.

Beautiful park! The trail I chose was a 2 mile loop around a paved path amongst amazing tall pines. Ended up getting poured on but still enjoyed the beautiful scenery and will definitely be making another trip there soon.

So we went to BrewDog for lunch and then headed over to the park and took a walk in the Tall Pines area, and it did not disappoint!

-nice facility -well trained life guards…read more -zero depth entry - lots of food places will deliver -This place has the potential to be amazing however, it is always over packed to the point no one can swim or play or even sit - people in street clothes and sports bras in the pool which is pretty gross they also do not enforce swim diapers - if you don't have a membership it's especially pricey for how packed the place is 12 per non resident 8 for resident it's hardly the " Las Vegas of water parks" with a small lazy river , 2 slides and two dives as well as a tiny toddler area - the deepest " swimming " (standing because no space) part of the pool is barely 5ft while the diving section is 12

It was last night's rain that made it less than a stellar run. Groveport Rec Center's running path has a serious drainage problems. Whenever it rains there are LARGE puddles on the path that last for days. These aren't little puddles that you can run around or jump over. You either have to run through them or try to go around them in the grass which is what I tried to do...and sunk ankle deep in the mud! So be careful if you come here after a rain. You might just want to bring an old pair of shoes!

It is rare that I post a review while on vacation. Normally I like to get home, edit my pics,…read moreresearch some interesting facts to include in my review and determine the order of the reviews I will post. I'm just meticulous like that... LOL! However, after my early morning drive to view this beauty of a bridge I find myself wanting to share the experience right now! Bergstresser covered bridge is located in a lovely residential area along a bike path/walking trail. The bridge is strong, well preserved and could easily handle car traffic if it were allowed. The wooden floors are in great condition which was probably aided by the asphalt that once covered the floor surface. Remnants of the asphalt are still visible. The truss system is unlike any I've seen before using triple lattice crossbeams as support. The setting in which this bridge has been placed is attractive. Currently Ohio is experiencing record rains, but the results are lush green landscapes. Despite the heavy rains we experienced yesterday, the river flowing below the bridge was very calm and serene. I followed the trail to a beautifully landscaped park area with a willow tree, benches and a memorial stone. Throughout the area are loads of Blue Spruce trees! I forgot how much I love Spruce trees and this trip has inspired me to use them more in my landscapes designs. BRIDGE FACTS Year Built: 1887 Builder: Columbus Bridge Company Length: 134 feet Restored: 1991 Truss type: Partridge Location: Little Walnut Creek in Franklin County @ Kramer's Ford The Historical Marker reads as follows: In March, 1887, the Franklin County Commissioners announced the building of a bridge in Madison Township over Little Walnut Creek at Kramer's Ford. Area citizens had petitioned for a bridge to transport agricultural products to the canal and railroad. Michael Corbett of Groveport contracted to construct the abutments and the Columbus Bridge Company built the covered bridge for $2,690.00. Reuban L. Partridge, company vice president, supervised the building, using his patented truss system consisting of double and triple truss members constructed of pine and oak. In the 1930's the road traveling over the bridge became State Route 674 and in the 1950s the road was redirected to bypass the covered bridge. In 1990, the county contracted with Abba Lichtenstein & Associates to evaluate the condition of the bridge. The W.J. Seidensticker Company repaired and restored the Bergstresser bridge using original and new materials. This, the last covered bridge in Franklin County, was rededicated September 1, 1991. At this time the ownership of the bridge was transferred to the Village of Canal Winchester. FINAL THOUGHTS This bridge was named after Daniel Bergstresser and Samuel Dietz who helped in the successful petitioning of the county commissioners board in the late 1800's for a formal roadway/river crossing for use by local farmers & businesses. Once an important part of the local economy it now stands as a reminder of days long passed and as the last remaining bridge in Franklin County, Ohio. As a personal note to the residents of the area surrounding the bridge: I'd like to commend you on how well maintained your homes appear. I am a landscape/hardscape designer and I felt inspired by some of the landscapes I saw on nearby homes. I truly felt the pride of ownership and I just wanted to say keep up the great work.
