I ended up spending a good hour first, looking at the temporary painting exhibit by Maria Cochillarelli, which was lovely. I got to meet Maria, who, besides being a vibrant painter - and person - is also married to co-founder of the museum and artist, Brendt Berger. Brendt gave me a guided tour of the upstairs of the museum, a large multi- room gallery bursting with art, all of which has been donated by the artists. I was particularly enchanted by the art, as well as the history and stories Brendt told me about Drop City and other local artistic communes. There was also a fun room with historic Hawaiian things. I had to tear myself away after an hour or so. I highly recommend making a stop here. It was the type of statistic and cultural experience that travel is all about. Btw, free admission but donations are appreciated and recommended (by me).

You come across a lot of household items that you might not see in a large metropolitan type museum. There are old antique weapons, a saloon, wagons, and a little schoolhouse; like something you would see out of Little House on the Prairie. It's a nice little stop on a road trip, and takes about an hour to see everything.

Had a good variety of exhibits from objects and education to personal contributions of passer-by and locals. My favorite installation was herbal remedies from visitors and I got some good ones I'm going to try! They also have an exhibit that teaches about the long history of mining in the area from a human and family perspective, where a visitor can say which mine their family is associated with. Such a wonderful place for someone like me who has family history in the area, or someone who has never been there and just wanted to walk through. Glad I finally made the trip. One of the finest museums I've been to in a long time (I've been all over the world to many museums), and honestly I learned a lot more than expected from such a small town. Walking Main Street an thankfully stumbled upon this gem…read more A.R Mitchell was a Trinidad native and was known as "King of the Pulp Magazine Covers". Most of this art museum is dedicated to his works and accoutrements. If you are fan of Cowboy/Western Art then is a must stop. I Particularly was interested in the Spanish folk art, and Native American pottery. This museum hosts a lot of local artists, with Hans Droog being of particular note, his "Swirly Horse 1" is mesmerizing. The building the art pieces are housed in is 115 years old, this building itself is a work of art, the hardwood alone floors made me swoon. You can easily spend an hour here moving on the 1st floor then 2ed floor and then back down to the gift area. Allyson, was very kind to take time out of her busy day and explain Mitchell's relationship to Harold Von Schmidt who's use of color is unique, his style and expressiveness draws you in, you feel as if you are in the scene he has created. Allyson also answered a million questions, the chat with her was as interesting as the art work. Free admission is the cherry on top.

I recently traveled to Pueblo for work but the job I was doing got held up a few days and I had…read moresome time to check out the area. After looking online for things to do I didn't consider this place just because the name sounded political and made me think I was going to get yelled at for driving an SUV or eating meat or something. We did end up checking out the Riverwalk, which is a separate review. Not knowing the CAV was on the Riverwalk, I was surprised to see the entrance at the end of our walk and decided to step inside. We were the only two people there and were immediately greeted by a volunteer who was more than eager to explain the meaning and history of the display. I was so humbled by the display, every photograph has it's own amazing story and the experience made me want to learn them all. The portraits are amazing and knowing each recipient chose the location for their own portrait makes them even more special. I ended up buying the book detailing the Metal of Honor recipients and will enjoy learning more about these amazing heroes as I study them. They need to change the name to something more fitting of the patriots being honored here but I would definitely make this a top priority stop when in the Pueblo area. A special thank you to the volunteers who make this facility possible, not just for your time to volunteer but also for your service and your sacrifice.
