Sites are all paved on a hill overlooking the lake. All have fire pits, picnic tables and a water pump nearby. One closer to the entrance could hookup to a hose. In between the loop of camps is a nice shaded grassy area. The bathrooms are coded, warm and clean with two hot water showers and a hand dryer by the sinks. The lake was very quiet no one on it but could be used for boating. It has a strong odor like urine that carries up to the camp. Probably not a swimming lake. The highway is very close so you do hear road traffic all night. It is not a secure campground and people come in late at night and leave early.

On their door it said they would…read morebe down by spot #30, she was but we didn't know that, so we went down their asking if they know who the host is and they said no. We then proceeded to call the county parks office to get a spot that wasn't taken, she gave us no other option than a spot right next to the bathroom and in between the walking paths. Then we were given an invalid code to the bathroom. The camp host shows up and doesn't even acknowledge us. We found out she was the chick laying right in front of us at spot 30 saying she doesn't know who the camp host is. Then 22:00 rolls around and our camp neighbors are a bunch of teenagers talking about guns and shooting from long distances (from home to their school) until 01:00 (why I didn't get up to ask them politely to be quiet since we have an early morning). The camp host didn't go around or even close the gate at 22:00 to make sure that everyone is following the camp quiet hours. I hope they never hire this camp host again. She is rude, obnoxious, and flat out doesn't do her job. This place is beautiful and I was hoping to enjoy it but I was asking too much by wanting a camp host that does their job.

We grabbed our payment envelope and picked a spot. The grounds managers happened by via golf cart, and offered to take our envelope so we wouldn't have to go back around. They were extremely friendly, and mentioned that although they'd been pretty dead lately there was a run starting nearby the next morning, so they were filling up much more than they expected on this, their final weekend of the season. The campground is much bigger than I expected, and although the nature of the surrounding landscape doesn't offer the thick, lush trees that bring privacy, the spots are large and it's laid out in a way that works. Great experience...great location to Smith Rock, cool setting, extremely clean and quiet, and friendly management. We will definitely stay here again.

There is a gas station and diner across the street too. We were nervous when we pulled in because the park was packed with Rvs .. but the 3days and 4 the next weekend we barely saw anyone about. ( facebook workers) Outdoor pool was clean. Free showers on site. Game room had TV and AC Downside: Only 1 cabin. - But 3 A frames. 15min outta town We will be back anytime we need somewhere to stay in Prineville Hidden Gem for sure

The prairie is…read morehuge - it held 7 stages of music, as well as spaces for talks, classes, vendors and food stands. The lake takes up a significant space as well and it's quite the hike to walk around it. We camped for 7 days in mid-August. We were lucky and assigned a camping space with minimal shrubs and rocks. As a result, we slept fine with just double-layered tarp under our tent and a sleeping pad inside. Be prepared. With high elevations, it gets very windy. A few neighboring canopies were picked up by the wind and at least one in our area was destroyed. Be sure to bring something to weigh it down. The wind will also cause dust to pick up significantly. I wore a dust mask for most of my time here and others had on bandanas. If you'll be up at random hours like we were, it's important to know that the temperature change is drastic. The temperature started to warm up quickly around 7 am and drop quickly around 6 pm. During the day, we wore bathing suits, lathered on sunscreen, stayed under our shade structures and hydrated well. At night, we would be in beanies, layers of fleece and wool socks. I would also suggest proper footwear, as there are small dried shrubs, rocks and gravel everywhere. I wouldn't recommend bringing any shoes with zippers, as the dust gets stuck in it and it gets difficult to zip up. Though we didn't experience it, there are supposed to be ticks in the area. In any case, I'd recommend bringing bug spray, as there are mosquitos - each member of our party was bitten at least once. I can't rough it this hard, so camping here isn't for me. But if you're up for a challenge against rapidly changing temperatures, dusty air and rocks all over the ground, this is all you!

This is a medium busy campground right on the main road, but its never too noisy after dark. The place is very clean and the vault toilets well looked after and not stinky! The spaces are a good size and the ones for tent camping are at the back of the loop. Not much trails but you can find something to do. One of my best nights camping was up here. During the week late summer, Huge full moon, then the coyotes began to yip/howl. Magnificent

Along its side there is a memorial sculpture that honors the memory of Prineville's fallen wildland firefighters and it was recently defaced by some of this town's moronic drug dealers or punks. The culprits have not yet been caught but there is a large award leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. Especially in light of the recent tragedies befalling wildland firefighters, this type of vandalism cannot be tolerated.

So 2 days with out a camp host was alright as the new camp host gets settled in. 1st night of hosting, a large over sized bus rv squeezed into a spot near by & knocked the sign off my post along with the light for it. Then proceeded to run their generator all night, shut it off at 3am... ran the Generator the 2nd night until 10am the next day & all they did was stay 2 nights along with their family, hardly left their motor coach. People, if your going to go camping. In a motor coach bus, shut the dang generator off so people can injoy their camping, not every one wants to hear that crap. If you have a medical issue that requires you to have medical devices plugged in, go to a camp site that provides you with power so you do not disturb you fellow campers. If your traveling & need a place to stop that has no issue with you running a generator all night, go to a truck stop. Don't ruin the piece n quit that people desire at camp grounds. A store parking lot, a restraunts parking lot, a dirt lot or a rest area out on the hyw. Would be just fine, so stop bing a rich price. Have some consideration & go else were with your generators. So, I give the Ochico Parks n Recs a 6 out of 10 because they were in the middle of transitioning to a new camp host, one that is much suitable & capable for the job. So, now we will return in a yr. To see if the vending machines chips n candy will not be exspired by 3 yrs or more. If the park holds to its no generators after 10pm rule. But most of all, have everything in a cleanly fashion. No homeless coming & going at 3am waking up campers with their loud cars, I'm sure with the rite camp host, this can become a 10 out of 10 camp ground.​​
