We live in South Carolina, and my 15-year-old daughter wanted to travel to New York City during her school holiday break. I agreed, thinking it would be a great opportunity to show her how we used to travel "back in my day." I started by looking for Greyhound tickets, only to discover they don't service Columbia (which felt personal). That's when I found Wanda Coach. My wife, who wisely stayed home, read multiple reviews and told me, "Absolutely not." I ignored her--because, I thought: "how bad could it be?" As it turns out, the reviews were not exaggerating. The bus was old, the suspension launched us around like a theme park ride, and the seats were worn...some aggressively so. The USB outlet didn't work, which was unfortunate because my daughter's phone needed comfort after what we were experiencing. And then there was the smell--an unforgettable, eye-watering urine aroma that stayed with us for the entire return trip, as if it had purchased its own ticket. WTH??? The bright spots? The bus was on time, we had an amazing time in NYC, and--most importantly--my daughter has zero interest in ever hopping on a bus and running off to New York City alone. This company is a joke. A friend of mine arrived to the designated bus stop on 2230 New York Avenue NE on Saturday, January 4 at 1:15 p.m. ahead of the 1:30 p.m. departure time from Washington, DC with a ticket purchased through Wanderu website to get to New York, New York. No bus came at 1:30 p.m. but a white bus arrived at 2 p.m. with no visible signage and the driver in no uniform but in casual clothing, and he was unsure if this was the bus he bought a ticket for. He approached the bus driver, and showed him the ticket, trying to inquire if this was the right bus, but the driver waved him off, closed the door and drove off. He had to ask other people outside about the bus, and they signaled to him that the bus that left was his bus. I was so disappointed by what had transpired, as it is not often easy for Deaf individuals to communicate with Hearing individuals, and he did my best in approaching the driver and finding signages to determine whether he was in the right place at the right time, and whether he should have boarded or not. He had taken an Uber to the bus stop and can prove that he was at the stop early in time for the trip. As a result of missing the trip and awful experience, he had to book a bus ticket with a different company to make it on time to New York. When reaching out to customer service, they were not helpful, being negligent to customer experience, and only refuted that the majority of the people (obviously without accessibility issues) were able to board the bus, and even then, we didn't see anyone else board the bus so maybe it was at a different stop. In one word: Horrible. The bus ticket cost $47 and I was charged twice when ordering through Wanderu. The waiting area in Washington, DC is in an Exxon gas station parking lot on the busy corner of New York Avenue and Bladensburg Road NE, no shelter from rain or gas station air. The 6am bus arrived more than an hour late, at 7:12am, even though Wanda Bus requires people to arrive 30 minutes before the "scheduled" departure. However, when the bus finally did arrive, the driver of the bus didn't even know what time he was supposed to be there. No concept of the bus schedule. While I was waiting for the bus, I called the "24 hour" customer service line only to get passed on to voicemail twice. When I finally spoke to someone, they told me "the bus isn't always on time" and they hung up. The bus interior was filthy, smelled of urine, marijuana, and old cooking oil. Empty alcohol containers littered the floor and most people on the bus were sleeping and sprawled across two or more seats, others were vaping or smoking weed, or watching videos on their phones at high volume. I cannot stress how terrible this bus experience was - do not repeat the mistake I made by using Wanda Bus. This company should be shut down. read more

First of all, the bus was scheduled to leave at 12:30 a.m., but it showed up at 2:00 a.m. with no explanation or warning. Everyone was confused, tired, and frustrated. The low fares are awesome. And my departure from Norfolk VA was right on time. The bus was empty when I boarded, but I still kicked empty water bottles in the aisle as I picked one of the less-smelly seats. Our driver grunted more than spoke (I didn't really care) and the internet didn't work (I did care). Would I ride Wanda Coach again? Sure. It cost $50 dollars less than Amtrak, and I'm a risk taker. I'll wash my clothes when I get home and be good as new. Plus, I was moved to post my first Yelp review in years! There's a coach called Wanda. I wonder if there's still also a fish called Wanda. I'll wanda around this company offices and find out. I've only used them once and they reminded me a lot of an upstart Greyhound which managed to inherit most of the problems of Greyhound. They're little bit more friendly than Greyhound for the most part, which is why I give them three stars. They're not much worse than Greyhound to be honest, but that's not saying much because Greyhound is one of the worst experiences imaginable most of the time. I got the impression a lot of the employees here, and a lot of the drivers here, are former Greyhound drivers - perhaps they got a raise or perhaps they wanted better conditions or perhaps they left their job that Greyhound for some reason and then came here instead. What a chaotic trip. I usually like taking public transit because it offers quirky stories, but I take it back ...this trip was wild. You get to their "office" which is run down with two benches inside - not enough for many to sit so people are constantly moving all around in an unorganized fashion. I showed my ticket questioning if I was in the correct place since there wasn't a bus stop outside, he then made a handwritten ticket (?) and said theyd make an announcement when the bus came but he never did. Once a bus arrived no one said where it was going so many of us weren't sure if it was going to the correct spot but took our chances. Once on the bus..charging ports are from the ceiling and hang down so you must have a long charger that can reach your lap, and it's just the usb plug in so the new apple chargers won't work. No announcements were made the entire trip such as rules for not smoking, ETA, time allotted for breaks off the bus, or where we were for drop off. For this reason I definitely wouldn't go to sleep on the bus because you won't know if you have reached your location unless you are checking on GPS or know the surroundings well. All of the drop-off points were also odd.. mine was at a Chinese restaurant in the middle of a strip mall. Since there were no announcements, two passengers got off to get a coffee thinking we had another break and the bus driver left without them. their friends tried to stop the bus and the driver yelled at the passengers that it wasn't a pit-stop. I don't typically have a great sense of smell but the entire ride smelled like I was trapped inside a porta potty on the third day of a music festival -- people started to spray their cologne which only made a grosser mixture. Positives: it was cheaper than the other bus options, but IMO not worth the savings at all. I'm usually really patient and tolerant of hiccups during trips. This definitely made quite the story, and I never write reviews but really hope this saves someone from having the same experience. read more
