I should have checked the Want Bierock Company's Yelp page prior to visiting on our last trip to Wichita. I'd been craving good Volga German bierocks for some time. (I used to live in Wichita back in the Eighties, and learned to love bierocks during that time.) Well, shiver me timbers and call me Petunia, honey, but I sure as git-out didn't go into Want Bierock Company to be pummeled with loud "Christian" music and a plethora of self righteous placards urging my conversion. To quote fellow Yelper Mindless M.'s review, "Well, the new owners change it for the worst it's now a Christian coffee shop ('cause we don't have enough of that in Kansas...) and they made it really bad where it feels like they're shoving Christianity in your face they changed the decorations to Christian stuff and constantly play Christian music no one wants to be there even if they liked the coffee because everyone who comes in there feels so much tension from staff" The front door had a sign encouraging us to take off our masks (!!!) even as COVID-19 numbers surged in Sedgwick County, and the reading materials placed out among the pieces of used furniture inside the restaurant (no joke!) were all far right wing conspiracy rags. Here's the whole megillah: I don't want to eat in Muslim restaurants that has Islamic prayers and chanting during my meal. (And yes, I've encountered that once, as well. How hard is it for some folks to leave personal religious crap out of business?) I also don't eat out to see and hear THIS kind of tommyrot. I go out to eat to enjoy my friends and their company, after all. I do NOT go out to eat to be proselytized, nor to be a captive audience for sectarian music, no matter its origin. Met them at the Farmers Market this morning. Husband always grabbed these bierocks for me because he knows I love them. However I won't be coming back because of this man's character.. My little sister was searching for spots to study and we stumbled upon this little sweet spot. This refurbished McDonald's is designed with inspirational quotes on the wall and two sides packed full of comfortable seats! I ordered the Caramel Macchiato and my sister ordered the Pomegranate Black Tea (free refills when you're in store). I thought that the Caramel Macchiato was too milky, compared to the proportion of coffee. Also, they did not sweeten the tea. Although the drinks weren't my favorite, the service was phenomenal!! Decided to check out a new coffee place. Staff was friendly, except for those sitting at the bar in their apron on their phones. The coffee wasn't anything to write home about. I got an iced latte and it was more milk than anything. The sausage kolache was just a hot dog. When you walk in, you're overwhelmed with signage of "our lord and savior" and Christian rock. I've seen reviews about it being too Christian.... Well my husband and I discovered this place a little over a year ago and today is really the first time I had any "Christian" encounter. Religion has never been forced on me or my husband. The staff here has always been nice, witty, polite & positive. They're respectful and never hesitate to help us figure out what we want. The environment is calm and peaceful every time we go. The cost of things are very reasonable. Overall I really enjoy this place. And as for my "Christian" encounter today.... Thank you. I am in no means a religious person. But today in the drive thru, the person handing me my drink asked if she could pray for me and while normally I would shy away from that, today I said yes and her prayer was beautiful and wholesome. She actually brought tears to my eyes. I really needed that today of all days. So thank you. And no, she didn't push a prayer on me, she was just nice. read more

I left after ordering at the drive thru because no one behind the counter was wearing a mask or face covering on February 19, 2021. This isn't the coffee shop for me, if you have a sweet tooth or a sugar craze this is the coffee shop for you. I have been here twice and both of my drinks were extremely sugary. The ratio of sugar more than espresso, where my preference is sugar less than espresso. If you aren't a big coffee fan or do not like the taste of espresso, this is also the coffee shop for you. The espresso here is definitely of good quality, there is no burnt taste. I asked for my iced macchiato to be made with coconut milk, what I did not notice till it was being made was the coconut milk was sweetened so the overload on sugar for my macchiato was double or quadrupled. My tip if you want coconut milk use it as a creamer for drip or iced coffee. They also offer pastries, I tried a blueberry muffin, which I recommend taking the barista's advice for them to reheat if possible. My muffin was unfortunately cold, but it was my misunderstanding. The ambiance of this place is absolutely cool for a coffee shop though, they have couches, pillows, two large screen TVs, a small play area and chairs for children, booths, free WiFi, and printing! Loved this place! I think it's an old McDonald's building transformed into a lovely, cozy coffee shop. Service is friendly and the couches are uber comfortable! Food menu is simple, yet tasty. My boyfriend and I may be considered tea snobs. He likes the hot chai, I prefer a fresh glass of unwseet tea. Our trip to Twisted Java did not satisfy our craving or impress our palettes. The medium chai tea he ordered tasted powdery, bitter and watered down. It had a great froth to it if that means anything. The iced tea, it was plain, maybe even a generic grocery brand. I expect better and more unique tea from what is considered to be a specialty shop. Many may read this and say... But It's a Coffee Shop. Tried TJ's last night for dinner. The bierock my wife had was okay... the filling to bread ratio was a little lacking. She ordered a Caramel Macchiato to go along with her meal, and it was very nice. I ordered a 16 oz Cappucino with a triple shot for my drink. It was okay. The bubbles in the foam were too large, and that affected the taste. Overall, it was okay. The kid who took our order was very polite. This was a spur-of-the-moment stop we were adventuring in Wichita and spotted it. We ordered a light cease and a turtle mocha without knowing what they were they were both great. My personal favorite of the two was definitely the white sees it was very good I highly recommend coming in and just ordering something random because I doubt it would ever be a disappointment. The girls behind the counter where nice. The interior is so interesting, it has one half that looks like a used to be some sort of McDonald's and isn't really updated that all the other side the other half of the building, has a very coffee bar Coffee Lounge kind of feel. The decor is super cool comma and the chairs and couches are pretty much all comfortable and yebNJs I did try them all! I also noticed that on the wall they have a sign saying that you can print in black and white for free if you're sitting here doing your homework or something and also they have Wi-Fi of course like any coffee bar needs to in this day and age. Just went in and the funky monkey just didn't taste mixed right, so my boyfriend went back in and asked if he could remake it and all he did was boast about how extraordinary the coffee is and didn't do anything for us except tell us they never make mistakes with the coffee. It's also 7 dollars for a shitty dry brisket sandwich and he said that's also not true and straight up didn't have good customer service at all. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if this place goes out of business. If you can't just fix simple little problems and take constructive criticism then they are pretty shitty people. I've been here a few times now(6 or 7). My first impression was that's it's a cute little place with comfortable seating and games to play. Very friendly staff. However, I've never really been satisfied with my drink and I've tried something different each time. I usually stick with one thing on the menu once I know I like it, but I feel like it's more of a waste of money, because I haven't found anything I like here. Even a simple vanilla latte.
